Viking Octantis
An excursion (including the loading process and transport) of Viking Expeditions’ Viking Octantis Submarine.
Filmed April 2022 during our Barbados-NYC itinerary.

That was really cool to see an excursion like this. I’m not sure how nervous I would have been to go in a submarine. Loved that the seats rotated to give a better view

It was very cool. For me, not bothered at all. Their procedures were vary safe.. and to boot- it was very cool to do- felt like a proper explorer. Not as cool as a D&G one, but still :). TY for watching!

This was quite the adventure for certain. Expedition cruising in the Caribbean…I can only imagine what expedition cruising truly is like in someplace more remote. Glad you guys enjoyed it!

Very cool, I was in a tourist sub in the Bahamas many years ago and realized for the first time how claustrophobic I was. There were maybe 12 to 15 people on the sub and it immediately became a real problem for me and it was about 45 minutes long. Never again.

As soon as we can find the right trip to take on the Octantis we will be booking a trip. Timeline will be about 30 days. The sub ride would be a top ten bucket list item. How long was the actual ride and what kind of cost is Viking charging? I'm guessing about $500.

Thank you for watching 🙂 The actual ride is about 40 minutes; And I’m pretty certain I said it in the voiceover, but it’s included in your fare- Viking do not charge a penny for riding in the sub!

That’s amazing that Viking doesn’t charge any extra for this submarine ride! Can’t believe no sea life in Gustavia, though. That’s a shame. Did you get hot in there, and was the air normal to breathe or dry like in a diving tank?

Fantastic video! I bet it was a thrill when the seat swiveled around and you faced undersea. Did you have a chance to ride the sub more than once during the cruise? Thank you for sharing this video!!

FlyShacker, you are very welcome, and thank you! When the seats swiveled, it was pretty cool, although to be honest, there isn’t a great deal of footwell room, so you do have to pick your legs up😂 No, I only got the chance to ride it once, though we just returned from Antarctica, and I got to do another one with Seabourn. It’s very fun! Thank you for taking the time to make comments and for watching.

Great documentation of your experience, sorry they choose an environment without coral or sea life. Did you use a gopro? Chest mount? I'm deciding what to being for our Antarctic expedition.

Hi Susan, thank you for watching, but just as importantly for taking the time to stop by and make comments 😘 I had a GoPro Hero 8 on a GP helmet strap, so I could be hands-free. I thought it worked out rather well. For Antarctica, I highly recommend you bring several batteries as the cold weather will drain them quickly.

They rotated our seat just a fraction-one foot dangling off the pie shape area-people trying to see over the backside -wonder what’s behind some doing generous rotation as seen in Vikings videos and others barely moving us with her finger…

Don't the subs sometimes launch right from the hangar rather than having to take a zodiac out to it?

No. It’s done for safety reasons as per the Viking team. The Spec Ops boat though, in our Vlog series, does.

Hi SFVoyage. That’s a great question and I don’t know the answer to it, sorry. At least not yet. However- we are going on Seabourn Venture December of this year, so I can definitely compare them for you! Thank you for watching.
