I think the best fights were in the early seasons when ragnar only had a hand full of men loyal to him and no banners to call because you felt every death , many of the minor characters i felt like i still had a connection with.
What's up, check out my new VIKINGS remix! Please tell me what you think about that 😃🎶 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hFCkrtXAPrc.html

@@georgethompson1991 "Shut up and listen, idiot. You have many gifts, and anger is a gift. What is in here [points to his head] is a gift. You do not think like other men. You are unpredictable. That will serve you well. Use your anger intelligently, and I promise you my son, that one day the whole world will know and fear Ivar, the Boneless."
All of vikings battle are dump,we only see a few slashes and then it cuts, few angry faces, and then the afthermath of the battle, its fucking laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame and then people like you calls it Bias, like come on,the whole serie is just ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Absolutely, they had the warband thing going in full. They were the raiders of lore and saga. Not to diminish the work of later seasons but they pegged the early viking age perfectly and hold a special place in my heart.
Actually the battles were not like that, those are bar fight s, people usted to fight close together, two bunchs of people pushing the other, and throwing all kinds of objects to the enemy , few people died
carlosterio last kingdom did a better job two shield walls clash then after a few minutes they back off rest and go again into one line brakes or falls back
Jack J you just contradicted yourself - you said previously “few people died”. This isn’t true - usually the losing side all died completely or surrendered and were taken hostage and used for slaves. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Probably someone thats mental disabled. How in this world could you make fun of that? Shame on you and your parents who failed to raise you. That guy is probably having the most moment of his life, while you ‘normal’ people make fun of him online. Sad world we live in
***** ? My world history book collection is vast and if I ever moved to a new house I would break my back moving all the damn things ! Lol. Relax kid I'm just posting on a TV show .... have no idea about your Hamburger comment ? But I am hungry for a Big restaurant style Bacon Dbl Cheeseburger and a bid mound of Onion Rings ! Hmmm Actually Viking is a well made show, why did you watch the video ?
cesar garcia Well how he was treated back home was due to his first betrayal! Ragnar forgave him. Rollo was just blinded by jealousy. He betrayed his culture and his people.
Metal helmets and mail were very expensive at this time. It was only in the next two generations of Norse and later Norman warriors had metal armour as a matter of course.
But they have the spoils of war and don't make use of them? Going to the battle with unprotected head was always very bad idea. Even solid, fur hat is better then nothing
The fourth battle, for some STUPID reason, the "king" decided to break his army up into two and waited for the Viking to attack on the other side. Stupid king.
This song is *so powerful to us* this is authentic from Hávamál, the tall ones speech, Óðinn. Can you hear *the heartbeat*? 42. Vin sínum skal maðr vinr vera ok gjalda gjöf við gjöf; hlátr við hlátri skyli hölðar taka en lausung við lygi. 43. Vin sínum skal maðr vinr vera, þeim ok þess vin; en óvinar síns skyli engi maðr vinar vinr vera. 44. Veiztu, ef þú vin átt, þann er þú vel trúir, ok vill þú af hánum gótt geta, geði skaltu við þann blanda ok gjöfum skipta, fara at finna oft. 45. Ef þú átt annan, þanns þú illa trúir, vildu af hánum þó gótt geta, fagrt skaltu við þann mæla en flátt hyggja ok gjalda lausung við lygi. 46. Það er enn of þann er þú illa trúir ok þér er grunr at hans geði, hlæja skaltu við þeim ok um hug mæla; glík skulu gjöld gjöfum. 47. Ungr var ek forðum, fór ek einn saman, þá varð ek villr vega; auðigr þóttumk, er ek annan fann, maðr er manns gaman.
Yeah, I wish Bjorn was actually placed on equal footing with Ivar again. The first war for the kingdom of Kattegat was the most interesting because it was two strategic geniuses (Bjorn and Ivar) with help from seasoned veterans. It was actually a good back and forth.
1:42 Many fans forgot how many times Rollo saved Ragnar and how much he loved him while Ragnar never returned his love; many hated Rollo for turning his back on Ragnar, but Rollo had to get out of his brother's shadow.
The Northlanders from western Europe (they were not called 'vikings' as that was a term for raiding) opened up the central land near rivers that we will one day call modern Russia to trade and expansion. In no small part Russia owes it's very existence to the river traders a and ax wielding warriors and builders from the north west.
Spoilers. People who love Rus’ will get a treat with season 6 of Vikings. Hvitserk and Ivar will head to Kiev. Oleg of Novgorod will be introduced as well as Prince Dir. Both are Varangian Princes. Prince Dir and his brother Askold ruled Kiev but were later captured and executed by Oleg. Not sure if they’ll do that in the show but yeah. Russia will be a season 6 storyline and I can’t wait.
+Natalie Scabbia, Wow Natalie, I noticed you got the same two favorite series on your channel. I AM in the middle of deciding witch is best actually.... I always thought I was going to NR1 the TWD side ,but I must say these Vikings are getting under my scin,,, and atm are winning! ;) while TWD is just more intelligent writing. Vikings just gets me somewhere much more emotionaly and spiritually. witch is weird because I feel TWD is a tat more briliantly written... thx for this video and Raslager!! ( spelled correct..?) :)
A long the river Signa, which Rollo/Gange Rolf here the real one, blocked when he took Valland(normandie) as len, so no vikings could sail down it and attack Paris.
So what I gather from these TV battles is that vikings were masterful, super human fighters! All the opposing forces would just stand there and not fight back.
Also, javlins do not seem to de a thing, even though almost all historical records state that battles were opened by the opposing forces hurling spears at each other
@EightFootSativa Just no. Swords were rare, most people would not have had one. The "Vikings" are not what they were called. Most Skandinavians were farmers or fishermen and never went raiding. Fortified cities were rare but existed. England was split into 7 major kingdoms each with their own kings and armies. Nobody had "standing" armies at the time but lords would have retinues of Thanes and could call the Ceorls (free farmers) to arms when needed
@EightFootSativa Did you even read my comment? I did not say "there should be javlins because they are in total war". I said HISTORICAL RECORDS mention them, you know, the stuff the Skandinavians themselves wrote down or that had survived through oral retellings until it was written down later
Couple things the show missed was the vikings use of spears and armour scavenged from the dead. The third battle showed the spear use but in an odd fashion chraging each other like jousting. The vikings battles more often than not began with a volley of lighter thrown spears then a volley of thrown axes. Then the heavier spears were brought into play
Germanic warriors, of which the Viking raiders where part, where known for using the spear and fighting in shield formations tht had the form of a square or even column. Big Advantage of bringing spears is, you have god chance agianst cavalry. Cavalry was alway a big danger for each infantry formation.
I come from Stamford Bridge, North Yorkshire in England. The last great battle between the Norse Kings of Norway, Denmark & Iceland took place in my village (1065). Harold who was defeated the next year at Hastings by William the Conqueror of Normandy was the Saxon King. The Vikings were given a major thrashing & never returned.
Rollo is a beast... The real man was also according to history one hell of a powerful and dangerous warrior, first Duke of Normandy, where i come from. If you guys ever go to Normandy go to Falaise to see the statue of William the conqueror and the dukes of Normandy around him (Rollo is there too). According to legend he was so tall and so big and heavy that he couldn't even ride a horse, they called him Rollo "the walker", a true fierce warrior and a great viking.
I stopped watching Vikings after the 3:40 battle. Such a cliff hanger on what Ragnar was going to do with his genius military mind and all he did was attack the smaller army on the other river bank. What brilliant writing.
Because the bigger army was MUCH bigger than ragnars and Ragnar didn't have time to prepare to take on a much larger force, the enemy king was prepared tho and Ragnars forces would have been massacred, so Ragnar went and massacred the smaller enemy force then mounted the heads of some of the fallen enemies on the front of his ships and terrified the much larger enemy force of god fearing Christians shitless, many of them abandoning there king
@@hoosieryank6731 So true and since the mid-nineties with Xena and GI Jane the narrative of the powerful women taking on men became their theme. Just look at Charlie's Angels of the 1970s vs. the 2000 and 2019 versions. In the TV version the Angels never went toe to toe with men and did not engage in fighting, used their wits and guile, wanted to be realistic too.
I love Vikings storytelling and characters (despite making a mess of History). But their battle scenes are ridiculous, no strategy what so ever except when Ivar is around.
Yer the first few battles they could get away with it sense their just skirmishes but when the big battles start they needed to show more. Also they make the Vikings like super soldiers in some parts but in real life they tried to avoid piched battles
Such a good show. I fell off when they killed Ragnar. I just can't get into Ivar. Not a fan of all the story lines. Rollo's is cool, Bjorn is cool, but the others I can do without.
