But Ragnar isn't a man he is a straight-up DOG cause he tried to have them both for three ways :D... That's why Lagethra left him... But the risk of having a 3 way with Lagethra and Aslaug instead of just having one of them is a risk I would also be willing to take :D

it's probably why she chose to kill Aslaug instead letting her go. Lagertha was so salty at this that she sent of Aslaug to Valhalla in the equivalent of a Viking life raft. Just look at how tiny that boat is for a *QUEEN* , even Jarl Haraldson got a full boat with a human sacrifice in tow.
@MarvinT0606
@MarvinT0606 2 года назад
@@m-bronte that tiny boat she sent her off in says otherwise. Even Jarl Haraldson's sendoff was better- Aslaug's shameful funeral (for a Queen) was Lagertha giving her the finger as she left the world.

I love this scene. Aslaug and Lagertha are as different as night and day, but they had grudging respect for one another. Aslaug's entire speech is flawlessly calculated to make sure that Lagertha understands exactly what she wants and what the consequences will be for her if she obliges, without losing her dignity as a queen in the eyes of the people. Quick breakdown: - Aslaug gives a respect nod to the Seer, because they both know what's about to happen. - "How strange that you should play the usurper. One woman against another doesn't quite fit your reputation." - She's invoking Girl Code, reminding Lagertha that assuming the leadership of women creates an obligation to Aslaug, because she's a woman and about to lose her home and crown. - "I was never the usurper, always the usurped. You took my husband, my world, and my happiness. The fact that you're a woman is neither here nor there," - Lagertha rejects the obligation; Aslaug broke Girl Code a long time ago, she doesn't get to play the victim now. - "I didn't take your husband, he chose to be with me." - Aslaug defends her position. - "You're a witch. You bewitched him." - This is a HUGE admission on Lagertha's part; in Norse mysticism, magic is a woman's art, and Lagertha is a warrior who never even thinks about any form of mysticism, but Aslaug is a volva with a known gift; she's acknowledging that Aslaug has feminine power she does not, and that's why she's confronting Aslaug directly. Aslaug is a worthy opponent, at least in this specific arena. - "If that's what you want to believe ... but it's not always magical, is it?" Aslaug denies using magic against Ragnar for two reasons: one, to make it clear to Lagertha that it was Ragnar's choice to be with a more feminine woman, and two, to make it clear that she doesn't have the power Lagertha thinks, which means she's acknowledging that Lagertha has the upper hand. - "Ragnar is dead, I dreamed it / You don't know that./ I don't know for sure, it was a dream." - Aslaug tells her they have nothing further to fight over because Ragnar is dead. This is important, because if Ragnar is dead, they all know he'd be in Valhalla. She also acknowledges that she does have a prophetic gift, and used it to help the man they both loved. - "I have dreamed of taking back my home" - Lagertha spits on Aslaug's prophecy: Aslaug has dreams that she can't know will ever come true, but Lagertha came here with a dream and is going to *make* it come true. - "I could never fight you, I am not my mother, nor yet my father. I would never win." Aslaug rubs her noble/heroic lineage in Lagertha's face while pitching the Sword of Kings into the mud: none of this means anything to her now, but she's still the daughter of Sigurd the dragon-slayer and the valkyrie Brynhildr, while Lagertha was born a peasant, and that means Aslaug is due a certain amount of respect. - "I have given him those sons. I am just as much a part of his saga as you." - Reminding Lagertha that everyone's destiny is decided by fate, which she knows is one of Lagertha's most closely-held belief, while also flaunting her fertility.. but at the same time, acknowledging that Lagertha is also part of his story. -'But now I renounce everything." - Aslaug is admitting that none of this means anything to her, now that her destiny is fulfilled. - "All I ask is safe passage...to wherever the gods decide." - Notice the emphasis on the word "ask", she's asking for 'safe passage' to the afterlife, where the gods decide what Hall the dead will reside in. That meaning is for Lagertha specifically, while the crowd just hears her asking to leave Kattegat safely. - "You will have your hearth and home, with my blessing, and my sons... will be grateful for the manner of it, and not seek revenge," - Aslaug assures that she wants Lagertha to kill her, but also warns her that her boys will avenge her, so if Lagertha does what she's asking, she's inviting consequences. - "I understand." Lagertha gets it. - "Thank you." So does Aslaug. Lagertha waits a few steps and then puts an arrow in her back, and Aslaug smiles, because Lagertha just slew her in a battle, even if it was only a battle of wills. She's smiling because it means Lagertha is letting bygones be bygones to allow her the opportunity to see Ragnar again in Valhalla.

@nslater1388

No, I don't think that's what it was at all. I think it was more her way of defeating Lagertha. She basically told Lagertha "I'm not going to fight this your way. I'm not going to give you the satisfaction of thinking you are the better person reclaiming what I 'stole' from you. So instead, I'm going to give you no real reason to kill me by surrendering willingly, and if you do kill me, it will cause endless problems as my sons take revenge. So what will it be, Lagertha? Will you act like the heroine you think you are, or will you murder me and show your true colors?" That smile at the end was of her winning.

It's pretty obvious Aslaug asks Lagertha to kill her: she says she has fulfilled her destiny by giving Ragnar many sons (so she has no reason to live anymore), she asks for a "safe passage" to wherever the gods decide (Valhalla), she says that her sons would "not seek revenge" (for killing her) when they hear the "manner of it" (meaning killing her without making her suffer). This scene demonstrated some of the best CODE TALK I have ever seen on TV. Each woman was completely honest in their observation, and committed to their position. They were dedicated in their roles (as actual characters in the story and actors playing them). There were no surprises here, all was done in plain sight. The only ones who were shocked are the ones who struggled to pay attention. Great show.

Aslaug asked for Lagertha to kill her. The "Safe Passage" she was referring to was safe passage Valhalla. She was asking for Lagertha, a fellow shieldmaiden, to end her life in an an honorable manner. Lagertha shot her in the back because Aslaug hand no intention turning around , as she had nothing to fear. "The manner of it" the she was referring to was the manner of her death. She died without fear at the hand of a warrior, the manner of her death would not bar her from Valhalla, she could enter if the gods desired. Lagertha understood this and grantee her request.

@@Shane-Flanagan Maybe, but I don't think so, mainly because Bjorn was not interested in the throne, at least he wasn't interested at the time that Lagertha killed Aslaug. His ambition was to see the world and go where no viking has gone before. So that is why I don't think she did it for Bjorn, yes, by killing Aslaug she secured Bjorns position to the throne but that was just a bonus for her, the real prize is that she gets to be queen. The men are flawed as well, take Bjorn for example, he judged his father when he cheated on Lagertha with Aslaug but when he grows up he does the exact same thing with other women. Hypocrisy runs in the family.

From 2:48 and onwards it becomes very clear that Aslaug asks Lagertha to kill her and send her on to "whatever the Gods decide". Can't believe I missed this when I watched the episode, it's very clear. It's not an ugly smile at the end from Aslaug, it's a smile of gratitude and relief, that Lagertha's "I understand" was truly an understanding of what Aslaug asked her to do. Great scene!

Seems that she wanted to be killed not because there was an understanding between them, but because her sons would avenge her since she wasnt able to. Understand, people, that in this scene it's Aslaug who is the winner here. Lagertha has always used her position as victim to justify her actions (always the usurped, as she puts it). Aslaug starts the conversation in front of everyone to make Lagertha's supposed motives very clear; Lagertha wants everything she gave up when she left Ragnar back. So, without a fight, Aslaug gives it to her. Now Lagertha has no real reason to kill Aslaug anymore, not without casting a shadow on her reign. Aslaug even announces, rather loudly, that if she is spared there will be peace and her sons will not take vengeance. But Lagertha wants blood. So she kills Aslaug, and the former Queen dies knowing that her killer's rule will be cut short. Lagertha was always power hungry and a little delusional about herself, and assassination has always been her main method of achieving status.

Well, Aslaug could have very well been a witch like Lagertha claimed. I rewatched the first two seasons and I noticed 1. that the seer told Lagertha that Ragnar is in danger from the magical world 2. the seer also tells her that "shadows" will take something she loves away from her (he could've been speaking abot Gyda though, maybe even both) 3. when Ragnar was speaking to Queen Kwenthrith on the ship, she claimed her little brother was manipulated by magic to fight against her and she asks Ragnar wether he ever fell into the hands of magic So it might have been that Aslaug really bewitched Ragnar into sleeping with her. If that was the case, she did really steal him (and that's what Lagertha believes at least).
@mbm9907
@mbm9907 7 лет назад
Agnesa Ferizaj if she did "bewitch" Ragnar or glamoured him into being with her, why was he so harsh to her? I mean if she had control or the upper hand in the relationship why would she allow herself to be beaten by Ragnar? Why would he be sleep with other women if her spell was so strong? (2) the seer had already informed Ragnar that he would have many sons ;which conflicted with his marriage to Lagertha due to their failures to have more children togather. Ragnar wanted more sons and Aslaug bore them willingly and to Ragnars liking so I don't think he was under any spells. He just felt that the gods obligated him to bring sons into the world and Lagertha wanted the honor of doing so but Aslaug was destined for it. Kinda messed up!

Say what you want about Aslaug but lagertha knew killing her would make Ragnar's sons fight. You can't blame Aslaug's sons for wanting revenge and you can't blame Bjorn for defending his mother so Lagertha is the one that started the whole fight between the sons of ragnar and that indirectly caused the death of Sigurd, Bjorn and Ubbe. If she didn't kill him, Ubbe would have been the rightful king to kattegat but he would have let Bjorn be king out of respect. Ubbe would have gone to find America like he did. Ivar probably wouldn't have wanted the throne and definitely wouldn't have fought his brothers for it. He just wanted to raid and live and die like a Viking. Hvitserk would have followed Bjorn and Ivar or Ubbe. The only thing that may still have happened is Ivar killing Sigurd coz those two never liked each other. But the rest of Ragnar's sons would have lived in peace with each other and made their father proud. Also with all of them United there is no was they would have lost any battle against the Rus or King Alfred or King Harald or anyone else.

Man, Lagertha was all "dignity and reason and family and farming with a dash of warrior in the mix" for the first two seasons. She was awesome. Since then, she, like Ragnar, has descended into something ugly, violently ambitious, and deluded. Such a sad way to develop such an impressively original character. They've caricatured her these last few seasons.
@olgabraga9200
@olgabraga9200 3 года назад
as Ragnar said, " power attracts the worst and corrupts the best!" we've seen many occasions with all the characters that the more power they gained the more they got ambitious and tried in many "unhonorable" ways to gain more.

@lusinemanukian2567
@lusinemanukian2567 2 года назад
I believe Lagertha changed the day she left Ragnar. She was never really the same after that. Although she chose to leave with her dignity in tact she knew she lost either way. She lost her man, her family, her home, and her self respect even after she left because Ragnar did not really stop her from leaving he just let her go and chose to stay with Aslug. That's the biggest blow and she resented Aslaug for that ever since. What makes Aslaugs character so vile is that she doesn't give a fuck how much pain she caused Lagertha or the family as you can see to her response to bewitching Ragnar and her vindictive poke at the fact that Lagertha could not bear Ragnar sons. She is an awful excuse for a human being and feels absolutely no remorse for how much pain she caused Lagertha. At the end of the day she took Ragnar away without even really loving him as Lagertha did. She didn't do it for the sake of love she did for the sake of herself. Ragnar and Lagertha loved each other and she destroyed that love between them. That is what makes her character not loveable. At least if you are going to take away someone else s man do it because you love him because then there is a good reason. She destroyed a love and a family without a care in the world. Ragnar did as well, but he regretted it. She regrets nothing and feels nothing and it was all for nothing. She is indifferent to it. That is why Lagertha despises her so much because she didn't even make Ragnar happy nor care for Ragnar they way she did. After everything that Ragnar did to Lagertha she was always by his side and always loved him till the very end. That's true love stupid as it is! But Aslaug could give two fucks whether Ragnar is dead or not. Just look it the way Aslaug says that Ragnar is dead and Lagerthas response to it. That right there she tell you who loves and cares about Ragnar more.

@lusinemanukian2567
@lusinemanukian2567 2 года назад
@@chrisfelder7029 the point I am making is in regards to Aslaug's character and why she is not likeable. I am not saying that Ragnar has no blame in this because he obviously does, but she is no innocent bystander. She seduced Ragnar, had sex with him and then waltzes into his village and proclaims she is pregnant and expects Ragnar to take care of her and the child! For what? For her own advancement! Does she care how anyone feels? And the repercussions of her actions? Not in the slightest! In my book she is a vile and disgusting woman! Even when she came into Kattegat proclaiming her pregnancy Lagertha sat there and even made conversation while that woman sat at the same table next to her husband. Being the warrior she is, I would have assumed she would have kicked her ass! You think if the shoe were on the other foot and Lagertha was the one to come waltzing in her village and proclaim she was pregnant that Aslaug would just sit there idly by and let it happen! Haha I think not! I guarantee you she would not have reacted the way Lagertha did! The worst part of it is that Aslaug's actions come with no remorse or regret! She's like yeah I destroyed your happiness and took him from you, so what? She is unapologetic and gives no fucks! Yet Lagertha is so patient when dealing with this bitch because children were involved! She could have at any point come into the village and take back what was rightfully hers, but she waited and came when she knew the time was right! She is a warrior and a viking! It would not have been too hard for Lagertha to do away with Aslaug a long time ago, but she did not! And even now when she could have literally cut this bitches head off in an instance she shot her in the back! We all know what Lagertha could have done to her! But she instead chose to shoot her in the back! I wonder why? She didn't trust her and it was a merciful way versus the way Lagertha would have killed her if they fought! Lagertha and Aslaug are too very different women with with two very different moral compasses. It's funny how people make Lagertha seem like this ambitious and power hungry bitch, but yet no one states how Aslaugs main motives were just that when she came to Kattegat! You think Aslaug loved Ragnar? No, she loved the idea of him and what he could do for her advancement in life, but Lagertha was with Ragnar when he was just a farmer. Not only that, even after Ragnar betrayed her she always remained by his side whenever he needed her. She loved Ragnar so much! She would have done anything for Ragnar even after he betrayed her!

This is Legertha's mistake, and to shoot someone in back is cowardly act. Revenge and death is expected upon her. Also I don't understand why she seeks revenge when she accepted their fate, and she got remarried. Not the Queen's fault, she choose to leave and pick an abusive husband, which she deserving kill and took over his position. She and the queen worked together, had a threesome and were friends. This part I don't understand.

As much as I don't really care for how Lagertha handled it, I also don't feel that bad for Aslaug. Something I think that's forgotten is that, while it's not implicitly stated in the show, the crew did say that Aslaug would answer for Siggy's death. Siggy died as a result of Aslaug's direct neglect. To me, that seemed like Siggy was last straw. Lagertha finally had something (besides Bjorn) that brought her real happiness again. And Aslaug killed that. Again. Again, a lot of this isn't stated in the show, but Lagertha had no care of respect for this woman. And, really, Aslaug didn't exactly deserve it. Apparently, Lagertha didn't think so either and I think that's where shooting her in the back came into play. A lot of people say it was uncalled for, but, to Lagertha, Aslaug did not deserve that kind of respect. Aslaug let a CHILD die and was never shown to really regret it. She never showed remorse. Not like in the past where the first Siggy really tore her up. To me, it seems like Siggy's death was Aslaug's final nail in the coffin. On a further note, it's possible Lagertha thinks about that and regrets: "If I had been there, it wouldn't have happened." Of course, she's mad about the stuff about Ragnar too, but I just feel like that scene with Siggy wasn't there just to be there. (Now, using Siggy as a plot point just to kill/villiafy Aslaug? That's another discussion.)
@Lily1127channel
@Lily1127channel 7 лет назад
But why did it have to be Aslaug who looked after little Siggy??? Because no one else did. Aslaug was not even related to her... That child had a mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, and no one undertook the task of looking after her but Aslaug, a step-grandmother. Did Lagertha ever expressed any care for that child??? Then why would she avenge her death???? If she blamed someone for little Siggy's death, it has to be herself, since she didn't show any interest of caring for her, or it has to be her son Bjorn who completely neglected his only child. If Aslaug let a CHILD die, then everyone else related to her (Lagertha, Bjorn, Ragnar, Thorunn) also did. And, I think, if Siggy's death really played a part in Lagertha's revenge, then the writers would have made her mention it. And not just saying bullshits like "You stole my husband" "You are a witch" 'Aslaug isn't fit to be queen"...
@kunoichimistress
@kunoichimistress 7 лет назад
To be fair, Lagertha was not in Kattegat when Siggy was in Aslaug's care. I think Lagertha probably assumed that Aslaug would take care of Siggy honestly and she was busy ruling her own area. That being said, you also make fair points and part of the thing is I think that part was just poor writing. Bjorn basically said Siggy gave him too many bad memories and there was no mention of it ever again. I think that it's a "cited" reason, but it's never actually shown. We also see this same treatment with Gyda and Helga and Floki's daughter. They die and then are pretty much forgotten about. After Ragnar's goodbye to Gyda, they're never shown dealing with her loss again. After Floki and Helga's daughter passes, we're never given more than Helga breaking the news to Floki. That all being said, this could very well be some kind of other ill path for Lagertha. I just think that, in the minds of the writers and the creators, Siggy's death was a chalk mark on the board for why Aslaug now had to go. But I don't necessarily disagree with you or anything. Your points are very valid. I just think it's not one or the other. I think it's all those reasons at the same time.
@xaviervega468
@xaviervega468 7 лет назад
If Lagertha brings up little Siggy's death it will be absolutely moronic and an epic writing fail. Not one time....ONE TIME did ANYONE ever give a damn about Siggy when she was alive. Not her mother, not her father, not either of her grandparents. In fact the only time she is even thought of once is when Ragnar calls out Bjorn for being a shitty dad. In fact, for all of Aslaug's negl;ect, she was the only one who even bothered to care for little Siggy in the first damn place. Plus, children died of illness quite often in the Viking era. This is shown with both Gyda and Angerboda. Lagertha has no reason whatsoever to suspect that little Siggy died due to neglect. Especially considering how her own daughter Gyda died.
@sophieludwig4115
@sophieludwig4115 7 лет назад
Well... I have to disagree. Aslaug was the only one who ever took care of Siggy. Nobody ever gave a fuck about her. I dislike Aslaug with passion, but she didn't HAVE to take care of Siggy, yet, she did. In the end, she had a mental breakdown because of the whole Harbard stuff, and Siggy was not the only one who suffered it, her children did too. The only difference is that Siggy DIED because of it, and the others had the luck to survive.
@kunoichimistress
@kunoichimistress 7 лет назад
Tbh after reading the creator comments, I have to say I kind of retract some of my original statement. I think they could have written the whole Siggy thing better in general. I still love Lagertha and I don't really care for Aslaug so I don't feel THAT bad, but I do think that this is marking something. I figured that Siggy died so that it gave Lagertha a final reason to confront Aslaug in the back of her mind, but I'll say I think I'm wrong on that. I really WISH though that they had written it that way? If only because it would make more sense than what's currently going on. Why does Lagertha all of a sudden think Aslaug's a witch? That's my question.
