TWO AND OHHHH BABY. Somebody watch First Take so I don't have to watch Stephen A. Smith wiggle out of that freezing cold take.
Brian Flores is a mad scientist. Brock Purdy looked like an Iowa State QB yesterday, and Sam Darnold looked like Shanny's hot SoCal ex-girlfriend out there. I admit I did not see this coming, especially with San Francisco looking to avenge their embarrassing MNF loss in 2023.
BUT NO. Without Addison (and later our bruised-up baby Jets in the fourth) Kevin O'Connell and Brian Flores did it again, dreaming up a masterful gameplan and capitalizing on 49ers mistakes to sweat out a win that-let's be honest-shouldn't have been that close. C.J. Ham had a blocked punt early that led to (just) a Will Reichard FG, Purdy had an INT and a weird fumble/INT hybrid, but the Vikings turned it over twice to HoF LB Fred Warner (my god, he's good) deep in 49ers territory and made the contest tighter than it needed to be. But unlike last year, the Purple stepped up and held fast, holding the defending NFC champs to a field goal with less than two minutes remaining-why Shanny didn't go for it I have no idea-and recovering an onside kick to ice the game.
Final thoughts: I LOVE 99-YARD DRIVES.
Stiff challenge next week against Stroud and the Texans (and a Danielle Hunter, who's just destroying people right now). Let's enjoy this for a bit, Skoldiers.
