Awesome video Kenny! I randomly stumbled upon your channel because I just uploaded my own world travels video. It looks like you had tons of fun! Great work filming & editing! I just recently started making travel videos about a month ago while traveling Europe. I know all the hard work that goes into it! Your videos great! Have a good day!
Your welcome! If you get a chance I'd love to get your feedback on my new video 'EuroTrip 2015' I just finished editing a few days ago! I'm always trying to improve!
Awesome video! After researching Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Zanzibar, and Mozambique, this video convinced us to book a trip to Vilamendhoo this October. Thanks!
Very nice video. We have been there in 2011. no whale shark when we did scuba Diving but lot of mantas ;-).. Which program do you use to edit this video. And why doesn't kick youtube your video away with this sound track? I always get problems with copyright :-D
Thanks glad you liked it. I used the normal gopro cineworld software that is free from their website. I'm not sure haha i think it's because there are iTunes links in the info part. :)
Hi ! What a wonderful video : ) I was at Vilamendhoo in november 2013, snorkeling was amazing ! Thank you for sharing the swimming with turle and whale shark (I was afraid to do this activity, do I regret now ?...)
I love to watch these kind of videos and I thank you for making them because I recently had a heart attack and stroke and now I'm paralyzed on my left side and can't walk so watching these blogs is as close as I'm going to come to Ashley taking a trip there and walking and doing the stuff so thank you for the beautiful entertainment keep it up
Incredible video. We were in Meeru Island on December 2018, we enjoyed our all trip. Maldives are great. Last year we were on Seychelles, but there did not so many fish like on Maldives. Good job your video. Watch our video on RU-vid name Edgar Edgar. Bye
Thank you for Good video.I was in there 2012.I had Fun time. And My first baby made in there. Now I watching with my two Babies.I dream of a day that I will enjoy there again someday.
Great video!!! Were most of these from your house reef or on a trip? I was in the Maldives a few years ago and the stuff I saw was nowhere at the level in your vid. Taking my newly acquired GoPro to Antigua shortly hoping to get some good snorkelling vids!!! Well done
+Lee Robertson Thanks, glad you liked it!, you'll have an awesome time it's the best island i've been to, especially for snorkelling as a reef circles the entire island about 5-20m from shore.
Very nice video! I got my gopro 4 silver, I didn't edit nothing yet in the gopro program. I am little bit worried becouse a lot of my shots from Thailand are over lighted :/ and I didn't have protune on. I am very "blond" with stuff like this haha. Did you had protune on? I hope I can fix this in the program...
Thanks mate, no red filter needed for snorkelling as not deep enough, you can add a bit of red back in to the post-processing in the go pro software quite easily
Great movie Kenny. We've also visited several islands with Vilamendhoo being our favourite with the best house reef. Three times there for us now :o) I use my Hero 3+ Black both diving and snorkelling and just wanted to ask which settings you use? I'm extremely good at 'missing my target's when using my gopole!! Any advice?!! Cheers, Mark
Jason & Heidi thank you :-) no filter used just used the GoPro software where I added some red back into the underwater footage. For diving below 5 meters I think you do need a red filter but no need for snorkelling.
Wow, really nice. The color was superb. My videos were quite washed out, but I was using the Gopro sessions. Next time I'll get the top notch device. We are planning a trip for 2018. Trying to find the right balance of activities and calm as we'll be bringing 4 kids along.
very nice video!! will be staying there this coming January, aiming for the whale shark sightings. we hope that we will get lucky this time and able to swim with the whale shark. are kids ranging between 9-11 years old allowed to join the whale shark excursion? Thanks!
Thank you! we're also returning to the Maldives in January! I would have thought your kids would be allowed but possibly only on the boat rather than the actual snorkelling as when a few more boats arrive it can get hectic
Kenny, were the sightings of whale shark, mantas and turtles pretty much guaranteed on the excursions? Or were just very very lucky? We have been to Meeru a few times, but after seeing your video are thinking of going to Vilamendhoo next time.
Derek Smailes Hi Derek, the whale sharks are pretty much 50/50 they said but they do a full day trip where the chances are very high. The rays in this video are Eagle rays and they are found around the island. There aren't many turtles at vilamendhoo but the excursion chances of seeing them are high. Another island I went to, Kuredu.. the turtles are all over the island shores and very easy to see.
This is a lovely video Kenny. So well filmed and edited. I am new to the gopro and editing experience and recently uploaded my video "Snorkelling at Kuramathi, Maldives in September 2018" if you have the time to view. I am now looking to decide where my next snorkelling excursion could take me, and your recommendations have made Vilamendhoo a consideration. My only disappointment was that i did not see any turtles during my time in Kuramathi, but so much enjoyed your footage of them in your video. Many thanks Kenny.
Thanks Stephen! i will take a look, there are not that many turtles at vilamendhoo either to be fair. We are returning for our 2nd trip to Kuredu in January where there are LOADS of turtles (50-60)
Wow, very nice shooting & editing! I love Vila, been there exactly one year ago. You were lucky to have swam with the whale shark..we took Ocean discovery excursion twice+a half day trip and no luck; we saw only mantas which were amazing to see also; one eagle ray around the house reef and turtles & other species of fish (including the nasty titan triggerfish) of course Amazing...unfortunately I saw also a lot of people damaging the reef with the fins and sitting on the it, not using the reef exit points...I dont comment on the nationality, but there are more and more coming there and I hope the management will do something about this otherwise this movie will be not a reality anymore.. Mirihi is on our next Maldivian trip wish list (same group as Vila, Kuredu and Komandio which we have visited before) Do you know and have been to another island with the same nice house reef close to a whale shark point?
Alina Mariana Lache Thanks Alina yeah the guys did say whale shark was 50/50 i'm sorry it wasn't as lucky for you. I totally agree with the people standing on the coral (of a certain nationality). I heard lily beach (very close to vilamendhoo) is a nice island to try. Been to Kuredu and Komandoo also which are great but obviously the wrong atoll to see whale sharks. I think Sun Island is the closest to the whale shark area but i've not heard good things about the island as there's a lot of concrete.
Kenny Andrew This video still featutes a lot of live coral but the reefs are dying due to a number of factors such as pollution, increase in water temperature etc.
Amazing video. Very jealous of the shark shots as whenever they were close enough I didnt have my camera. Off to Komandoo tomorrow so shall try harder!!
Glad you liked it! Been to Komandoo also which has a good reef and lots of turtles if you haven't been already :) The easiest way to get the baby sharks is when they are amongst a group of the sardines, they don't really notice you.
Yeah you can but you can only really see whale sharks in the south ari atoll which I believed is a protected area, you'll need to get a sea plane there and then I believe the tours are run by individual islands
hi Sam, it really depends on which island you visit, not all of them have a house reef. If you went to vilamendhoo you are almost guaranteed to see everything in the video except the whale sharks which you need to go on a boat trip to find. Also vilamendhoo is a bit short on turtles! Nearly everything else though you would see no problem.
Sam's Playground Tripadvisor is the best place to ask, if you post your budget they can give some suggestions. This was our 3rd island but have visited a few others and they are all different in size/reef quality etc, good luck!
+robert clarke Yeah sure, if you have a hero 3 or older, take anti fog inserts, they are really cheap. Also if you are diving 10m+ i would consider a red filter but other than that just try and keep the camera as still as possible which i have learned the hard way! :-)
+robert clarke I'm sure you will, if the island you're going to doesn't have a house reef there will be plenty of trips by boat I'm sure. Whale sharks are mainly in the South Ari atoll but there's manta rays and sharks pretty much everywhere.
Awesome footage! I like how the Transformers music goes perfectly with it hahaha! We are going for our honeymoon in August so fingers crossed it won't rain for the full 7 days we are there as I heard it will be Monsoon Season around then. By the way did you see any spiders during your stay? We are both petrified of them....
+Michael Truong thanks Michael! Don't worry about Spiders, i've been to 5 islands and never seen a spider. There are too many small lizards running round eating them all. "Rainy" season is from May to November and i've gone within this timeframe every time and usually it only rains for the odd 10 minutes then clear and dry in just as short a time. Enjoy!
+Kenny Andrew thanks for the detailed response! Really appreciate it! I also wanted to ask if you would recommend we buy all our snorkeling gear beforehand or is the gift shop at Vilamendhoo reasonably priced for these also? As we don't want to go over our baggage allowance of 20Kg on the seaplane either.... Thanks again for the tips!
Definitely take your own, it will work out more expensive to hire there and you'll get a much better fit with snorkel etc if you buy them before you go.
+Kenny Andrew Thank you so much for the helpful advice! U seriously helped us out a lot there! Gonna buy a GoPro and try filming some clips myself too just for a honeymoon video! Wish me luck haha!
Andrew Thanks for this amazing video! I go to Vilamendhoo in May, I can't wait to see this picture with my own eys... One question, what kind of snorking mask do you use? You have rented it at the resort or took it with you? Regarding the image capture, during the snorkeling do you use everytime the pole? Thanks for the help :-)
***** Hi Marco, thanks for your comment. Lucky you going to Vilamendhoo... I would definitely buy a mask before you go as i don't think the rental ones are great and you will want a good fit otherwise it might leak/fog up. Mine is just a Cressi set from amazon. With the filming I used the gopole for most of it yeah.
Kenny Andrew, I already bought one set from Amazon, now I have some doubts about what type of fins should i buy... What kind of fins did you used? Thanks for the help ;)
it's an italian expression that means: wow, that's awesome! and i really hope to be there soon with my wife... btw terrific video, keep up the good work!
