One of my favourites, to me its better than Creed Aventus. A more refined blend with high quality ingredients and great performance. I just purchased the body spray that was newly released. I have a lot of Vilehelm Parfumerie products. Black Citrus is another gem, as is Basilico & Fellani
This sounds interesting. Haven’t tried anything from this house. Only concerned about leather note as I’m not the biggest fan of leather notes in perfumery. Only in small doses.
I discovered the brand and Morning Chess four years ago in Antwerp, Belgium, on a weekend trip. Actually went back a few weeks later only to get a bottle. One year from then the brand has popped up in several department store and perfumery chains all over Germany. It is not a rare find any longer. Besides Morning Chess I own Black Citrus and a travel size bottle of Basilico & Fellini. I am not a fan of Aventus at all, but I do like Morning Chess a lot as it feels much crisper and less musky in the dry-down.
I really enjoy this brand but haven't tried morning chess yet , so appreciate learning about it from you. Poets of berlin / moon carnival / mango skin and dirty Jasmine are all gorgeous by them 🍀
I always enjoy your reviews, this is probably the 10th I've watched this week. The juicy Bergamot-blackberry-crunchy green apple opening sounds lovely, bitter tomato leaf ~ 'there's bitterness in the heart' ~ was a good line, haha, settling into patchouli, one of my favorite notes. I've tried Smoke Show from this house, very lovely, and my to-sample list from Vilhelm Parfumerie is Lilac a Day...
Vilhelm Parfumerie has some great fragrances. I tried Smoke Show, Oud Affair and Purple Fig. They were all very good and sophisticated especially Oud Affair (soft Oud with Honey, Tobacco and Vanilla ❤).
Good review, Sebastian. Heard about this previously, but you put a good (more insightful) spin on it, helping us to appreciate that the sharp bitter greenness of the galbanum was offset by the bright, juicy bergamot, making it quite wearable and desirable. Then you said that goodness melded well with the other notes to put it into the same ballpark as Aventus, Cedrat Boise and Hacivat. Whew!! Definitely have to get my nose on this. Sign me up!
Absolutely gorgeous fragrance, bought it at Liberty when it first came out years ago. Was my go to fragrance and got so many comments at work and wherever I wore it - really is a crowd pleaser, seems to change everyone you wear it - I was convinced I could smell mangoes, fresh but deep woody feel I felt I could wear it morning and night. Very long lasting and strong sillage. Unfortunately, I believe I reacted badly to it so have had to stop using it, may try it once again. Also own Fleur Burlesque and Smoke Show. Black Citrus is also nice as is Stockholm. The bottles are heavy and intentionally designed - art deco vibes, the box is high quality - very luxurious and interesting brand. The brand will definitely explode - Morning Chess has been out of stock at Liberty every time I head down, hopefully won't become as ubiquitous as Creed Aventus.
I've heard of Vilhelm Parfumerie and actually have Purple Fig on a wishlist. This review makes easier to want to go out and purchase. As such I'll be looking for this and Purple Fig in the mail. Thanks for the content!
I appreciate you explaining the kind of vibe that Chess gives. I have had the pleasure of trying Aventus for a day and I have to say... it did get compliments, and I can see why. I guess many feel that it's played out, but I think that it is still a very well composed fragrance.
Interestingly, I first smelt this fragrance at an art exhibition. It smelt brilliant then, and I’m sure it smells brilliant now. My first thought upon sniffing it was - wow, this is literally like a smoky batch of Aventus!
Merz just started carrying Vilhelm...really wanted Mango Skin but they were sold out of 50ml.Picked up Smoke Show.Liked this one too...maybe next time!

Caught myself sitting here in the summerhouses in north Sweden while you hype a Swedish Perfumery Brand and I wished I could say I had tried this one, but I have not and right at this moment I probably either have to order a decant or wait a few weeks to somewhere I can try it, oh when this would have been so good to wear right now.
It also comes (used to come) in a 18 ml travel spray, which I have. It's a nice scent as you described, in the same ballpark as Aventus. I'd be interested if you review others from this line as I haven't tried those, particularly Black Citrus. Sad to see Barneys go.

Galbanum and ambergris touch in a bottle sounds interesting. I would like to have it in my collection since there are not a single bottle of mine combine both notes in a bottle. 👍 -USA-
