Liberation Day on the U.S. territory of Guam is an annual commemoration of the invasion by U.S. military forces on July 21, 1944, which ended the Japanese occupation that had begun in 1941. Begun in 1945, it is Guam's largest celebration. Wikipedia

Theme Representation:
The Guam Hymn composed by Dr. Ramon Manalisay Sablan in 1919 implores that peace envelop
our land and her people. These tumultuous days in our neighboring countries and in our nation,
remind us that even after the war which changed our people’s lives forever, there remains an
ardent desire for peace in our land, in our homes and in our hearts. As a CHamoru people, we
forgive one another, asi’e, in order to achieve peace, minahgong.
This portrayal of Lady Liberty holds the flame of peace high above our land, which is illustrated
by the slingstone shape of the Great Seal of Guam and our thriving native flower, the Gaosåli.
The radiant Gaosåli displays the beauty and perseverance of the CHamoru people as we
overcome the challenges of wartime adversities and our present-day trials and tribulations; as
the latte reminds us of our strength and endurance to live with mutual understanding and respect
for one another.
11 Liberation Day Parade floats stood out with their creativity, workmanship and the best embodiment of the theme for the 80th anniversary celebrations.

1st Place: Guam International Airport Authority
2nd Place: Department of Public Works
3rd Place: Port Authority of Guam
Non-government/civic/community/non-profit category
1st Place: Palauan Community Association of Guam
2nd Place: Santa Teresita Catholic Church
3rd Place: Korean Association of Guam
Business category
1st Place: Cabras Marine Corporation
2nd Place: Jamaican Grill
The floats were judged on the following criteria:
1. Design: Artistic imagination, creativity, color combination, focal point grouping;
2. Construction: Workmanship, materials used, lettering, use of natural materials;
3. Effects: Movements, mechanical enhancements, sound, music;
4. Theme: Communication of theme in designs and aspect, originality.
Float entry winners will receive:
1st Place - $1,000
2nd Place - $750
3rd Place - $500
