These gents and occasional lady have become my friends. As pathetic as that sounds in this new era of isolation, I thank you for the laughs, disappointments, history lessons and comraderie. So happy I discovered this great series.
Absolutely. I relate. But remember that this is being watched and enjoyed by others who feel the same. So you're not as isolated and alone as you may feel. Thanks for reaching out with your comments. 🙋🏻♀️🇨🇦 LL
Brother, you can paddle left and I'll paddle right..... We're in the same boat ! This is the absolute craziest year I have ever seen.... I've got 41yrs worth of source material to pull from and yep... This is the straight craziest ever! Stay safe my friend !
@Ronda Leistiko That was a month ago, and you are SO VERY Correct !!!! I'm just waiting for the October surprise to be, I dunno.......... Yellowstone Erupting !!!
I had to laugh when the farmer seemed to know exactly where the Templar building's remains were for all his life, but never said it to Time Team until asked.
as far as i was reading up other clips, related to -Time team-, when BBC changed the format, for whatever reasons, ( quotes?) Professor Mick Aston was not ousted by the BBC,but he left by himself. Claiming that the show has gone toi commercial. and does not concentrate solely on archaeology. Though one thing is for sure, he is been missed. RIP a great man..
Stewart certainly is the big picture guy willing to think outside of the box. I love it when the other archaeologists are tossing dirt and conjecturing about piles of rocks, and he's in the next field focused on a larger view. To me, he's the key to the whole program.
He was coached to be 'Joe Average.' He had no training or special interest. He was employed to be the person who asked the 'dumb' questions that viewers wanted answers to... His skill as an actor, was to make it seem spontaneous. In much later episodes, a few young archeaologists who worked on just a few digs - not these early ones, said Tony spent most of the time sitting in the car, showing little interest. Then he'd be called out and filmed rushing about, looking excited, asking questions. Then he'd go back to the car... Mick and Phil, Carenza, John, Mat and Raksha are career academics. They were 100% genuinely excited
OMG! This episode really makes me feel old. Look at the appearance - especially the colour and abundance of the hair of some of the main male characters - and the shape of the computer screens... Love it!
Since I notice your name as possibly Dutch, this Dutchy wonders which year this episode was filmed. I've never followed Time Team before, I "dug it up" online, about a year ago. When I chose to use the lockdown for watching positive and educative videos on RU-vid. In the description, there's no date presented. Do you know the year?
This aired January 21, 1996. Today is January 30, 2022. Many things about this show has changed. Most notably Tony's hair. Although I have seen it bleached blonde in a later episode. Even though this is series 3, they don't quite have confidence and stage presence. I'm glad the show continued and they all grew into it. ❤ It's fun watching them all out of order. Thank you Odyssey for uploading these videos!
I think that Phil is entirely beautiful, smile, and looks. Not that I'm attracted to him, just observing how well made a human being he is as a man. I'm always smiling when he speaks his dialectic English. Phil's cracking of jokes is 👍
I would have guessed late 1980's, by hair styles, clothes, and the general color of the film. The latter seemingly to be routinely be darker and/or more gold\yellowish. I'm curious if you might be able to answer my Comment Question - *Copy of Comment* *Can anyone share the Timeline dates of when this show, began?* i.e.: began in _____ with (any noteworthy point years) _____ and ended _____ or does it continue? I've watch these over the past year and they are enjoyable, (the personalities often endearing), I'm just quite curious. USA viewer. Thanks and Best Wellbeing all ...
@@bethbartlett5692 Hi Beth, The show first aired in January 1994, although it follows a very short lived prototype series featuring Mick Aston (colourful sweater guy) called Time Signs, which aired in 1991. Aston was very much the central figure and driving force for the show, having a deep rooted love for archeology and the teaching of history to the general public. The show ran continually for 20 years, ending in 2014, shortly after Aston's death in 2013. There are no plans to bring the show back, however Tony Robinson has occasionally voiced the desire to do a one-off special, primarily to revisit old sites and honor the memory of Mick Aston. Hope that helps answer a couple of your questions. :)
This emits energies of very 1980's ... The 90's may be my fav decade thus far. Truly a bright, clarity, positive energy time, and a higher minded balance in my experience. Awe ... I appreciate those years and will manifest a similar positive experience NOW. 💫 ▪ Mick looks Italian in this episode. I hadn't noticed this before. Reminds me of my late Father-n-Law.
Huge TT fan. I have often wondered about the Templar "severed head" accusation - I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian and the Icon is the Mandylion and is a common Icon on Orthodox Iconastis, often located prominently above the Royal Doors entrance to the the Altar. The Templars may well have adopted Eastern Iconography given their activities were focussed in the east.
Should it be called a disembodied head rather than a severed head? The latter seems to suggest decapitation! When they were discussing it it put me in mind of the ancient Irish tradition of head worship.. but I think that predates the Templars by a long way. Maybe somebody else could comment on that.
If want to know, who the Templars really were, and where they went to, then watch video "The Swiss Beast - Home of the Devil; Part 1 The Nazi-Templars" on channel Giureh. The French King was right: "the Knights Templars are an evil bunch, that needs to be burnt".
Love watching the equipment transform threw the years with these guys. From heavy equipment down to small tools like communication devices. Great show!
Did they blow it? They went there to find the site and they found it, they know exactly where the borders of it are. They just didn't find more buildings than the church which all buildings was just an extra credit. What was found will be very useful for future digs and that was the goal so I think they did a good job, just not the best they could have done.
@@JETWTF They screwed it up on purpose.... its a good site, but there was no mystery....So they 'forgot to chk two bits' and then they do have a journey of discovery. At no point did they not know what was going on.
I'm from America and just found this program This my first show and it looks very good. I saw Tony Robinson and thought "Wait I know that guy" Then I realized he was Broderick from Blackadder.. pretty nice compliment to him knowing he hasn't changed all that much after all these years

This episode keeps making think of the term, "geriatric hippie" because there are a bunch of old guys with really long hair running around. 😉 But it's another fun, informative, historical documentary that I've come to expect from this great team of friends and archeologists. Great quality upload. Thanks for sharing. LL
Robin Bush was most British bloke ever?😊 Love these old Time Team episodes. They are archeology as themselves...now we now that Phils’s hat was green decades ago😂
I like Phil, and Sir Tony.. I do hope at some point soon, they are available to restart a Time Team and do some more Archeology.. I've been bing watching the Last couple weeks. Awesome stuff indeed. Cant believe this group left in 2011, and one has since died, rest in peace Mick.
Me too - the hair was a surprise. But even the old episodes are well and entertainingly presented. The Time Team is “timeless”. Enjoy watching them all.
I just love the excitement and energy of everyone finding so much amazing things, even when they are the tiniest parts of the digs. I wish I could be apart of it. I’m so fascinated finding thing when I dig up my yard of where it came from and how long it’s been there and the story of those that have past trough or used items. Such incredible ideas and memories were just guessing at. Thanks Time teem for keeping my imagination going.
38:30 I can’t believe it took a team of archeologists and historians three days to ask the farmer who plows the field where the boundary wall was. It should be so obvious that the farmer would know. Oh well.
This is a great example of professional arrogance and it’s rather shocking because I’ve been watching the later episodes first which shows that the team became more humble as they matured.
Just adding to the love fest. I’ve only recently discovered this, but I am head over heels with the lot of them. Such wonderful passion for their work, great banter and fascinating stories of discovery!
I thought this was one of the recent episodes then I saw tony and knew it most definitely was not lmao. Love the older ones as much as the recents can’t wait to watch it
if I were born british I would certainly work with history. I love ancient history, and they have loads of preserved sites! It must be delightful for those who work with history to be able to stumble upon ancient stuff here and there
Watching these as they come up on my recommendations... watching Tony go from silver/grey short to suddenly long flowing brown... Is a bit startling! And fun! 😁
Phil is such a kid here. He looks like a lost rock guitarist who wandered into the garden, only to be kidnapped for manual labor by the archaeologists.
I am very jealous of the history you have have there. I really admire the Native American history we have in the Americas, but this is so fun to watch.
Im almost sure my ancestors knew of this place. I traced my heritage back to Warwickshire, the Pettibones were the sword makers for the templars. You can still find swords with our family name on them. Came to America in 1700s at some point. Levi Pettibone was an explorer and map maker. His ancestors fought in every war since then, including myself....I love people's search in history.
Interestingly, it's always the brewers who perpetuate the myth that people didn't drink water in the medieval period. Of course they did. Just like today, the people who could afford beer or wine probably drank it fairly often, but most people simply drank water from reliable sources. There are tons of records from the time period attesting to what people drank, and it was mostly water.
I’m completely stunned to see that much hair on Tony’s head. I’ve only been watching time team for a few months now but definitely will be watching for years more.
The amount of times ditches turn up as important makes me feel like I should have a stronger interest in digging them. Since apparently, it's a very human thing to do.
