Grievous was at war with a species that enslaved his race, he the best warrior of his people. his people begged the republic for help and none came. his wife died and his ship was blown up by the sith, killing all of his commanders. he was taken by the sith and had his whole body replaced by mechanical parts and was manipulated into thinking the jedi did all of this to him and his people. He has an insanely tragic backstory
Nah, vader had just provocate his pain from him self, grievous had no choiche, he born in the war and he lose every thing: his wife, his family, his friends and his body and his freedom, that for the corruption of the republic and the jedi order that help the huk to slavery his people, he fight for the freedom of his planet until the end, and he was manipulated by the sith, that put a chip in his brain for control him.
Context on General grievous: So basically it all started with the Huk a bug like species attacked Grievous’s home world of Kalee. Grievous was a notorious Warlord loved by his people. He ends up losing his lover to the Huk and keeps attacking them until he reaches their home world then they call in the republic to help them even though they were the Invaders. Grievous pleads to the republic that they were the ones attacked but the Republic didn’t listen and ended up attacking him and his people. In the confusion Count Dooku ended up “helping” grievous by basically putting him in the ship and blowing it up on him. Grievous ended up losing majority of his body and was turned into the thing you guys know today and also gained his hatred for the Jedi.
@@RandomMackem3247 you wouldn’t know that watching only TPM though. As far as what is shown onscreen the viewer is under the impression that he’s pure evil
A lot of people ignore Maul's backstory. The dude was literally kidnapped, tortured, and basically made into a slave for Sidious to send after his enemies.
It really is a shame how Disney butchered Grievous’ backstory from being so tragic and honestly even sadder than Anakin/Vader to just making him a power hungry tyrant who was mad he wasn’t force sensitive and the Jedi didn’t accept him
@@justadudeonYT. The yamrii were trying to take control of the home world of the kaleesh because the kaleesh were less advanced then them, and the kaleesh asked for the republic to help. They fended of the yamrii seeing a clear victory for the kaleesh, finally the republic came, but to their suprise they came to help the yamrii. Grevious could do nothing but watch from above as his wife and tribe slowly get turned to shreds. Then sidious and dooku saw this, blew up his ship blaming it on the republic. And then sidious and dooku "rescue" him and start brainwashing him into thinking that he would be helping avenge his tribe if he fights with the confederacy against the republic. Grevious is a-lot of things, but pure evil is not one of them.
@@Astraxie it's so much worse when you look at the details. He was a really good warrior and dooku crashed the plane grievous was on and blamed it on the jedi
@DE Sidious Editz that's what every villain does. I'm sorry but I have to ask do you think before you speak. Ted Bundy probably said women are inferior so it's ok to kill them. Does that make him normal or is he still a villain?? You answer that
@@Dunno683 wait a minute there ok? Where the hell did you get Ted Bundy from? That has absolutely nothing to do with…well anything at all, count dooku is just doing what he thinks is right, Ted Bundy did what he did because he felt like it, he wanted to kill those women because he thought he had the power to do so. That’s the difference between them ok? But still what does that have to do with anything? Answer that.
Darth Malgus actually had a sad backstory, but it was self inflicted. He loved a blue twilek, but realized his love for her was stopping him from fully connecting with the darkside so he killed her. He did become strong in the darkside. Basically he became darth vader on purpose rather than on accident.
Galactus: bro what are you feeling for ? Nihilus: I can eat, how about some spacefaring civilizations. Galactus: yeah sure I can go for some fast food.
His hatred for the Jedi was justified, what the Jedi and Republic did was disgusting and vile. Also I agree some things are labeled “legends” but they make since to be canon. The Clone Wars from 2003 is labeled legends but Grievous taking Palpatine, Anakin completing the trials, Anakin and Ventress dueling, etc happened and makes since. Especially Mace crushing Grievous’s lungs which is the reason for him being weak against Kenobi but sadly that was retconned thanks to the newer clone wars
@@raiden_prime24In Legends, he’s a full on tragic villain but in canon all we know about him is that he hates the Jedi and abandoned his humanity to kill them.
Psychopathy is a mental disease that causes one to be a complete narcissist and to have a lust for violence and disorder, not caring about how your actions affected the lives of others. That’s quite literally what Palpatine is. Although, meeting Plagueis certainly made him more evil than he already was
Most of the sith are just people who either had everything taken away from them or raised and nurtured into being a sith. Of course, there are those crazies like Palpatine
Palpatine and Vitiate but honestly Sidious was evil ever since he was a kid when he was 16 if I remember he killed his entire family and showed no remorse for it even before that you could say he wanted to be alone and control everyone even in his school with such a personality

FYI, maul is broken because the night sisters took him and forced him to go down the dark path. He was taken from his village and never saw them again until savage found him and told him they were brothers
Y'know I can't really call Revan broken if he decided to be the necessary evil for peace. Yes, he blew up Malacor 5 and made a wound in the force and had to kill a dear friend who betrayed him, then the 3 centuries of imprisonment. Despite everything, he never really changed. He stayed as the same person. He never was a Jedi or Sith in heart. He just used whatever he had in him self to enable piece. Maybe I am wrong about this, but that's at least my perspective.
Vitiate did break his mind and will, though. To me, that counts as being broken. Plus, he never saw his wife and son again after he was captured. Furthermore, he went insane for a while during the time he split himself into two.
@@jeffreyherrera5069But that was redeemed revan that vitiate split into two not Darth Revan. Logically anyone would go insane not being able to see their loved ones while being kept captive and tortured. His darkside counterpart wasnt broken either, simply the deranged actions of a dead man who wanted to ensure that Vitiate would never return. Broken would imply an internal conflict between good and evil, which Revan clearly had no hesitation in embracing the darkside if he believed that it was necessary to do so.
I feel like malgus is broken because he had a horrible life in his home, and was almost forced to kill his wife due to the fact that she was definitely going to suffer a horrible death from other sith or Jedi as seen with aryn lenneer. And having horrific injuries and having to wear a respirator for the rest of his life.
@@flouy7430 same thing with maul he got injured but people say he is broken and grievous tried to kill people but is classified as broken and part of vader being broken is getting burnt from a fight with a JEDI. if the injuries on maul and vader classify them as broken then it does the same to malgus
@@Sirplusgmd maul got taken as a child and molded by fear, pain and violence 💀 he doesnt know any better than darkness Vader is definitely pure evil too, just like Malgus
I don't know if I can agree with Malgus in pure evil. He was a very conflicted Sith Lord who even after killing his gf became not so much pure evil but enlightened just not in an entirely good way, but he did have some good points on the Jedi and Sith both being bad options.
Honestly almost all the Star Wars characters has suffered a lot and then we have Rey who suffered as much as that one stormtrooper who hit his head on the elevator.
Nah man Anakin was broken his whole life. Torn between his emotions and relationships and the Jedi order. He was always under the will of people he percieved stronger than him and always sought their help. Thats why when Sidious offered a way to save Padme he fell so quickly. Even as Vader he was never evil. He was a slave to Sidious and his plans. Just the few conversations between Luke and Vader show that. The broken Man who was Anakin/Vader was always there but was always under control of others
@@grimlord3181 Not really? He chose to accept it and let himself indulge in the dark side sure, but he didn't "choose". I'm not super knowledgeable but from what I know he became interested in sith artifacts at a your age and was then manipulated by plaugeis into killing his family and joining the dark side. He obviously became evil but nothing suggests he was somehow born to be evil, he got brainwashed early by the sith.
Something I’ve noticed is that any siths who are redeemable don’t have apprentices (canonically at least) but the siths who can’t be saved have apprentices Just a small detail I noticed
Dooku was Yodas Jedi Apprentice but then he was so fed up with the Jedi Order then he was trained by Palpatine who he thought he was a good teacher he had found out it was Sith Lord Darth Sidious so he joined the Dark Side for great power

Revan was attracted to the dark side before being broken. Grievous was always an horrible guy even way before the movies
Malgus isn't evil , he was maternally deprived all his life , had no concept of morality and when he did , he attempted to make a new empire based on equality and tolerance of all races
He was raised by the Sith with Sith ideologies. And just cause he wanted equality and tolerance of all races, that doesn’t mean he was good. He would do whatever was necessary to get there and it’s not like he wouldn’t not kill people after that. He’s a Sith, he holds personal gain above all else. Malgus has always been my favourite sith, strictly because of his pure dedication and will power towards furthering his connection to the dark side, he was widely considered one of the best duelists and battle commanders of the old republic, his skill was unmatched, and ability to not waste any emotion, he channeled every bit of it to fuel his connection to the dark side of the force, even palpatine greatly admired him and had Vader read his manuscripts and writings, without malgus's writings Vader wouldn't have been the strategic and dominant battle commander and terror he was, even palpatine said he never would've been as strong as he was without malgus

For Grievous it depends on who you ask, for example George Lucas would say he was pure evil to distinguish him from Darth Vader but in the Legends continuity he has a sympathetic backstory where he had his cybernetic enhancements without his consent

I don't think count dooku is either evil or broken, he was just a Jedi that after decades studying the light side of the force wanted to study the dark side and its aspect just for his personal and knowledge gain, infact he never had the classical yellow eyes of someone who is in the dark side, yet he was able to perform the dark side rituals without any issues and teach several dark acolytes.
i love how the broken characters were genuinely broken in some physical way. grievous (lost his human body), anakin (lost majority of his limbs), maul (lost his legs)
