Vilma Santos was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 40th Gawad Urian held at ABS-CBN Studio 10 on 20 July 2017. Her exemplary contributions to the industry is one for the books, a movie career that span 5 decades and up to this day, she remain as one of the most revered artists in the local film industry. Santos holds the distinction of the only actress who has won a total of 8 Best Actress Awards from the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino. In addition, she was also given two more special awards by the Gawad Urian as Best Actress for two consecutive decades (1980's and 1990's). Though she has been a public servant for 19 years, she still managed to do quality films and maintain her status as a box-office star unmatched by her contemporaries.
In the video tribute to her she said: “Sa pagdaan ng panahon, isa lang ang hindi nagbabago. Ito ‘yung passion ng mga tao sa pelikula para lumikha, sumulat, or umarte sa pinilakang tabing. Kaya po hanggang ngayon, artista pa rin ako,” said Vilma, who offered her award to everyone that formed her 50-years-and-counting showbiz career,
