In this video I stroll around Lithuania's beautiful capital Vilnius, while shooting some film and talking about Lithuania and its history in the process. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling the social juices a lot on this day, the people I met there were amazing though and I will definitely return in the future with some more social interactions and stories from the Lithuanians!
For the January events bit at the end I used the footage of the LRT archive, which they uploaded on RU-vid: • LRT EBU Lithuania Janu...
Last but not least, the background music was as always made by the long one: / user-ivprod

Happy that you still managed to catch a few soviet relics like brutalism or old trolleybuses or older wooden houses. A lot of that was lost in the last decade due to rapid modernization and it is unclear how little will survive at the end. It seems almost everything is being replaced by new glass buildings.
@film__riss

Absolutely, it’s sad to see everything becoming so uniform in the name of modernization. It’d be a miracle to see a trend of people building things with character again, I guess until then we have to chase down the old ones before they’re completely gone. As much as I love the Soviet relics, the wooden houses of Lithuania were my favorite, I hope that at least they are staying😅.

The oldest trolley bus in Vilnius was made in 1997 in Czechia. So no they are not soviet.

@@Moliugas89 But isn't the design from 80s? I know that the last ones were made in early 2000s.

@@film__riss Half of Žvėrynas (the place you have visited is protected) but it was more like a fancy wooden district with villas, not something usual. After independence Vilnius had wooden buildings (and still has a few stragglers) in pretty much every district. From the main old town streets next to the castle, to suburbs, near a TV tower. You can even see the change by comparing google street view 2012 vs 2024. The fastest disappearing large wooden district now is "Šnipiškės", it even lost its name, most nowadays call it "New City Center" with our mini skyscrapers.
