Ladies and Gentlemen, this is how you make a review video. Put the verdict on the thumbnail. People will still watch the video even without the clickbait if the content is good enough. Bravo, well done.
Thanks a lot for this update. Makes me even happier I ordered one just two days ago and it's currently on its way to me. Paid just €279 on eBay which compared to the Fujinon lenses is almost a steal. I do notice your concern about QC though so I hope it will be as good as the sample you have.
I sent my fuji 18-135 in for repair to the fuji station here in the United States and they said it was the stepper motor and would repair it for $550.00. After picking my self up off the floor I laughed in the guys ear and told him to pack it up and send it back to me and I would just buy a new one for an extra hundred bucks. I now use mostly old vintage glass that is manual focus. Just a lot less to go wrong and need to be repaired.
My copy should be arriving tomorrow thanks to Black Friday bargain price. I have not typically gone for fast glass in the past so I am looking forward to playing with shallow DOF. Thanks for your review. Always good stuff.
Thanks for the follow up! Glad to see this, just bought this with the Black Friday sale on amazon for 20% off, hoping it’s worth it instead of jumping to the 90mm 🤞🏻
Ces Fab so far so good! Definitely make sure you do the firmware update on it though, my copy had the original firmware which didn’t focus so well in AF-S but fine in AF-C, did the firmware update and it changed the lens entirely, love it!
My only hesitation is simply the bulk. I really hope Viltrox brings out some APSC dedicated prime autofocus lenses for Fuji now that they've nailed the AF integration. It's obviously a huge bargain, but it just bugs me that I'd be hauling a full-frame lens for a travel telephoto. Tough decisions.
I doubt they would as it's not as economical for them to do that since they can't reuse the designs across brands as much. But who knows. If enough Fuji shooters get on board with these new Viltrox lenses and take advantage of Sigma falling asleep at the wheel, maybe Viltrox will double down on Fuji.
Andrew, are you going to be checking out the new 1:5 85mm 2.8 macro from the Meike people I believe? I think it's under $500 and a comparison with the Fuji 80mm would be amazing!
Hello Andrew, very useful thanks again for sharing! I own one of these Viltrox updated to firmware V1.03, I realize though that eye tracking may seem very accurate on the LCD/EVF - one sees this little square jumping around following your eye - but when you then shoot, it hardly really nails focus... actually I noticed this also with other Fuji lenses especially when the subject is moving back and forward ... but maybe it's just my XT3 ... :-/
Awesome. Thank you! I shoot an XT-2 for video, but also have been looking into shooting some stills with it (I have a GFX now, but used own and love the XT-1), and I've been daydreaming about a longer lens for it, but haven't wanted to make the financial commitment to something I'm only going to use casually. This might be a good balance.
Totally. I think you'd enjoy it. BTW, I now have the GFX 50R, but broke the bank just to buy it and can't afford any lenses just yet, so am adapting. :) Any adapted lenses you'd recommend?
Awesome! Minolta have a wealth of wonderful lenses for adaptation. The 45mm f/2 is tiny, cheap, and renders surprisingly well. The 58 1.4 is older and softer, but oozes with personality. The 58 1.2 is the stuff of legends, but I haven't taken the financial dive on it. Jonas Rask has an excellent guide for Minolta stuff: jonasraskphotography.com/2017/08/16/minolta-x-fujifilm/ .... I've also used Canon FD lenses on it, and the 35 f/2.8 I used was nice and had very minimal vignetting. I hear the FD tilt-shift is great, too. If you have any Hasselblad glass, it looks wonderful with just a cheap Fotodiox adapter. I got the Kipon AF adapter and the Canon 40mm STM works well with it on Single shot AF. It's a lot of fun to just try everything on that. ha.
No problem! He has a great one on the Techart AF adapter, but the lens advice mostly applies to the Kipon and probably some other adapters, too. Also, great reviews of the GF lenses and other stuff in general.
Looks good but I have yet to decide a change from Nikon to Fuji, depends on the next camera release. Curious why your using 50fps instead of the US standard 60fps, I see you reside in Utah.
Hey Andrew. It looks like a great option for a budget portrait lens and a pretty good one at it. Which makes me wonder. How do you feel this compares with the 80mm. f2.8 (aside of this one being used as a macro). You see, I'm a "fine artist" and among other things, I draw realistic portraits based on photographs and sharpness (pores, hair, wrinkles, etc.) is really important for what i do. I also am considering the 90mm. f2 for the same reason. If you have the time, I'd love to know your opinion or suggestion on the matter. Thanks!
Hey mate, I see in someone's video that when the subject moves towards you, the lens loses autofocus and starts missing it in upcoming shots. That software update solves that issue? I'm considering to buy and now it is all up to your answer:)
My lens does an interesting/annoying focus action when at anything but F1.8. At any other F stop, the camera does something similar to focus breathing. Except I am not trying to focus when it does it or shoot video. It's after I let go after focusing or taking a shot. It will do it sometimes as I carry the camera around as well.
Hi specifically what USB data cable works with this lens to get the firmware update? micro usb? Mini B usb? How many pins? Is it the same for Mark II? Thanks
I sold mine months ago because it messed up the lens mount of my xt3 after using it, I don't know why but it seems I'm the only one who encountered this issue. Currently my camera is being repaired, it can't detect my fujinon lens. Performance wise it is definitely worth the buy if you're in a budget , latest firmware update works fine.
That is surprising since there are many Fuji lenses heavier than this one. Though you bring up a good point. Perhaps it should have a lens tripod bracket.
It is also announce that it could also be used for macro photos,.. but no one is making any comment on that. Have you tried it or tested?... or it is just a marketing slogan in Amazon?? ;-)
Denae & Andrew thank you, would af mode be single point, zone or wide tracking? I have an indoor venue next Saturday where there will be children playing and running around amongst adults. Ordered a Godox 860 ttl capable flash for on camera use (which I hate and the weight will be massive with 16-55 onboard) but the ambient light is insufficient to get anyone sharp.
I’m new to photography and recently got this lens for my Fuji xt3. Does anyone know why the brightness/darkness of the photo that I take is different than the preview? With this lens I always have to take a test photo to see if I need to adjust the ISO/aperture/SS. I don’t have this problem with Fuji lenses
@@eagleeyephoto8715 Fuji US was a really bad experience for me, almost ditched their cameras because of it. I guess it depends on who you get on the phone though.
@@skatertwig26 It is all about perception what the one call "service" . To me "service" is not job from 9 to 5 , it is mentality. You provide a service or you don't even bother customer or yourself.
@@eagleeyephoto8715 I understand that and agree. With that, both times I had to call for service ,Fuji acted careless. The repair center was rude, and they overcharge for everything. They also want everything serviced, for example when I called to ask for 3 tiny screws which unscrewed themselves from my x-t2, Fuji refused to send me them. They said I need to send in my camera, which is ridiculous. After 3 calls, I finally got ahold of the manager , and Fuji sent them, for $14 plus shipping... It was the same deal when I had a damaged screen. Nothing about it was really good.
Hi, when I tried to update the firmware, it seems the connection is not established when I connect the lens to my computer, do you know why and how to solve it?
Question question question...I have the great (to me) xf 50mm for portraits, do you think it’s worth getting the Viltrox 85mm for better results? Thanks
I just purchased one but I discovered that the USB connection won't work. Tested with multiple Windows 10 PC, and a MAC, and different cables, none could recognize the lens. Anyone with similar problems? and how do you solve it? thanks
I had now problem update the firmware v1.01. But this time my PCs both Windows 10 are not recognizing it as a USB drive when plug in the lens. Anyone has the issue? Did you update it with some other way?
Since this lens is actually a full frame lens, does this mean I just convert the focal length for my aps C?........ In order words, is this the approximate comparison to the game 56mm f 1.2?
I'd say it's close to 130mm f2.8 full frame equivalent.. Edit : if you want to get a 50mm full frame field of view in apsc, try 35mm lenses Edit #2 : if this lens were to pair with a full frame camera, then if compare to an apsc with 56mm lenses, yes the field of view would be pretty much similar
Hi Andrew i need your help, i tried the firmware update in my viltrox 85mm and tried it with xh1 however the screen is flickering and i cant use the camera. Thanks for your help.
No idea, sorry. The lens we're shooting with came with the update. I'd contact Viltrox. I'd love to hear how they do with supporting you on this, though.
@@AndrewGoodCamera its how you copy the file. It should be saved first in the desktop then copy to the software of the lens not directly transfering it frkm the zip file. I got this from another viltrox user. 😊. My camera and lens is now perfectly working fine.
Viltrox sent me this today 5/14/2020 after ordering the Viltrox 23mm on 4/27: Kind Reminder for Fujifilm X-PRO3 Users : First of all, we apologize for comfirming this problem late after your purchase. If you are Fujifilm X-PRO3 users and purchase Viltrox lens especially for the X-PRO3 camera, for the sake of your camera, we would like to suggest you not use Viltrox 23mm, 33mm or 85mm X-mount lens onto Fujifilm X-PRO3 model in case it will damage the lens release button of your camera. This is because the location of X-Pro3 is a bit different from other Fujifilm cameras, and our lens were designed and set production before the release of X-PRO3. So due to some bit structural difference, they are not fully compatible with Fuji X-PRO3 on structure though performance is not effectted anymore. We really apologize for any inconvenience caused ! If you are X-Pro3 owner and want to return the lens, we will accept that and proceed for you. BTW, there is no problem on other camera models. They can work perfectly on Fuji X-T3 and X-T4.
Are your kids in gymnastics or did they naturally choose to jump on the trampoline like that? I ask because of the really little girl tucked and held her legs like a tiny Simone biles
I sold mine because it ended up damaging my sensor after a backlit portrait shoot. I can’t pinpoint the fault to viltrox though as it could also be user error. Nevertheless, it took magical shots!
@@jockturner1547 It had burn marks on the sensor somewhere between the centre and the edge. It was about 500+ EUR to repair via Fujifilm Service. I returned it ASAP and bought the XF 90mm just to be sure. Coincidentally, no burnt sensor after thousands of backlit portraits with the XF 90mm. Even a turbo-boosted Samyang 85mm 1.4 and a Mitakon 35mm 0.95. I cannot say it's the lense's fault but it was the lense that I was using when it happened.
I was not aware that we were bros. Have we met? As far as my face, what I can say? It was the one I was born with and I can't afford plastic surgery. So it's the best I've got, for now.
