He's who Bowie wrote Ziggy stardust about, drugs & drink drove him to madness, he believed he was God walked off stage & quit music....proper rock & roll, brand new Cadillac...superb
He was actually not the most musically talented performer, bad timing and didn’t understand tempo. The band definitely made him sound better than he actually was.
RIP , 🎸Mr Vince Taylor 🎸
FYI, Golden Earring wrote and played a song called Vince Taylor, Look for it, you'll like the group and the song. I became a fan of Golden Earring in the early '70s. BELIEVE ME! the only problem with G.E. is that they probably didn't have a good manager, whereby he could have promoted the group in the USA! THEY could have knocked the socks off of many Brits, G.e. was a Dutch band. I own all of their cuts.
Vince Taylor this Cat was Cool - Elvis had already been sold out and turned into milk toast doing Movies! Vince Taylor was wild and wide open. He was also before Jim Morrison in Black Leather' - 1967 Elvis wore all black leather in thye 1968 - Comeback special ~
This guy was the inspiration for David Bowies Ziggy Stardust album. The song Rock and Roll Suicide is 100 percent about this guy. He took so much LSD that he lost his bloody mind, and couldn't be trusted to perform when booked, because he lost all concept of time. He wandered the streets mumbling to himself as he grew old. The entire Ziggy Stardust album tells the story.
reminds me cosmetically of Lux Interior of the Cramps and the son from "its a mad mad mad mad world" (1963) Sylvester Marcus, all wrapped into some psychotic rock and roll chimichanga... Vince Taylor may just have influenced all of them.
To me, the guitarist really tried amping up the guitar licks to what would become heavy metal. They were playing as heavy as the amps would allow. Imagine if they had ozzy's broken orange amp from black sabbath. Which did lead to distortion heavy metal.
I love the 'Reslo' mic - in no way would it pick up the voice unless there was so much feedback that the whole shebang would become inaudible. Great video nonetheless. A kind of Johnny Kidd less his Pirates.
Wow, a rock drummer with two bass drums in 1961? Someone said that is the year here in the comments, and if that's correct, wouldn't he have been doing it well before Baker and Moon were? I remember reading Baker and Moon saw Duke Ellington's drummer do it.
So many comments about how great this undiscovered guy is, Ziggy blah blah blah. All I see is a middling talent. More talent than me, to be sure, but still middling.
bonjour à tous quelqu'un peut me dire ou je pourrais avoir la musique originale pas le live de vince taylor what i say. merci, je suis actif au commentaire pour vos réponses
Bonjour Joeakim.
At the time, "what I say" was a popular cover tune that most club bands in Europe would perform. It was a real rave up tune. The Beatles also had it in their sets sometimes stretching it out for 20 minutes. The main reason Pete best lost out to ringo was he couldn't play the song's beat correctly and ringo could nail it. They used the same beat later on "I feel fine."
The guy had a mediocre voice. Basically his stage act was a rip off of Elvis, Gene Vincent, & Eddie Cochran. He did have the look & not much more than that.
