I’ll NEVER forget this game! 04 and I couldn’t believe what I was watching. Easily the most exciting college football player I’ve EVER watched. He made it look so easy!
hes gonna make a push for playing time ... he makes you hold your breath doesn't he ... boy is he smooth .... instant offense ... The FIRST OF MANY TOUCHDOWNS in the career of ... :D Rest is history!
The dude was blowing money like crazy because he received no guidance on how to deal... He was booking cross country flights and purchasing every ticket so "he could fly around by himself"
Vince young is great his first year playing he took his team to the playoffs by himself and now he isnt even playing anymore so yeah his team sucks right now without him
The comparison to Brad Smith is right on. Both were tall long stride guys who seemed to effortlessly glide down the field. When he was making this comparison, Smith was coming off a freshman campaign where he became only the 2nd player ever to rush for over 1000 yards and pass for over 2000 in the same season. Vince Young didn't accomplish this until years later in his final season. Vince Young took a major step forward as a passer in his 3rd year, and separated himself as a QB from Smith based on his improved passing game. But prior to 2005, Vince Young had done nothing to separate himself from Brad Smith other than play on a better team. In 2004 Reggie Mcneal beat them both out for 2nd team All-Big-12 (behind Jason White) because McNeal was up to that point a better passer than either Young or Smith.
no the commentators just realized that he was a much better runner than a passer thus the running qb tab. Also 9 tds to 17 pics in his final pro season as a starter cannot just be chalked up to a lack of preparation
you havent seen a high school football game until you see a jenks vs union game in tulsa oklahoma.... its the biggest rivalry in the nation according to the nfl network, and sports illistrated, and usa today.... look that shit up..
I'm an aggie and I must say VY is a legend. Too bad it didn't quite work out in the pros for him because he had the talent to make it. McCoy was good but he never could really win the big game (2-2 against A&M). I love hating UT and hope one day we will play again so i can hate on ya some more, but I still respect some of the greats that has come from that program.
it has nothing to do with his stats the fact is he was probably the best running qb in college football history but only a decent college passer. Then once he got to the pros the bigger stronger smarter defensive players were able to nullify his running ability and he was never a good enough passer to make it in the pros
@Oroshimisu If you're trolling, this is a good one, keep up the good work. If you're not: Young won his two BCS bowls, Vick lost his two BCS bowls. Young rushed and passed for more TD's. There's no comparison on paper, and there's even less comparison of the on-field intangibles. That said, Young has been an embarrassing disappointment in the NFL - he does own a very good steakhouse in Austin, though - while Vick has thrived - aside from prison.
If he could have kept his life straight he would have been good in the NFL. Plus it didnt help him getting drafted to a coach who absolutely hated him.
Didn't Colt McCoy come in third place behind the dude from Stanford and Mark Ingram though? Colt McCoy was great in 2009, but his numbers sucked compared to his 2008 stats. Had he had a season like he did in 2008 he would've won it no doubt....
Darryl Clark sucks. He's going to be a 5th year senior and is just as good as Pryor last season. Of course Vick is a better passer NOW. Pryor's only been at college for 8 months. Too skinny? He's 6'6" 235. 8 less pounds than Vince Young. And Young is 6 years older.
This was my senior year at UT. I was at this game. I had heard so much chatter about how Vince Young was a better version of Michael Vick; I was skeptical. But the dude blew me away, and you can see why. The broadcast footage doesn't capture the energy of the student section as we realized that this highly-touted (and possibly overhyped) recruit was every bit as awesome as we had been promised.
@OUfootballAuthority How is he a bust? 30-17 as a starter isnt a bust, thats almost a 2-1 win ratio. He just got drafted to us and Jeff fisher never wanted him or really liked him. With out VY starting we've had a 6 game losing streak two years in a row. Since Fisher didnt wanted him he put him in TN he was put in a system that he wasnt used to.
THUMBS UP IF YOU KNOW VINCE YOUNG AND COLT MCCOY WERE THE BEST QUARTERBACKS IN COLLEGE EVER! Vince was the comeback king and COLT WAS THE ALL TIME WINNING-EST QUARTERBACK EVER AND HAD ALOT OF OTHER ALL TIME RECORDS!! GO TEXAS!!!!!
@MrHORSEtheMAN Tim Tebow went 9-4 the year he won the hiesman. He was 1-6 when trailing at halftime his entire career. Vince Young had the ability to WIN games in the clutch and he was a better scrambler.
Ughh....Its a shame VY was so talented at Texas and did not translate to the NFL at the time. Now if he was drafted with the read option and all that he would be a beast.. That and if he was in the same shape..
Dont feed into that ESPN Tebow hype. He's a decent runner at best with an okay arm. When you throw screens to 4.2 WR and RB's all day, it make your job so much easier. A typical college system QB. He's gonna get exposed in the league To me Tommy Frazier was the best that I seen. He ran the Option, could throw from under center and was crazy accurate. He broke his leg and wasn't the same. Watch Tommie Frazier Tribute on youtube if you haven't seen him play.
I called it first! The moment Vince took his first snap late in his first game I called a buddy of mine and said: "Just watch, this kid is going to take Texas to a national championship before he leaves, Texas". I was right! Hook em'!
@Pissankle Are you sure he has been a dissapointment?? what about his winning percentage, his stats, his game winning drives, What about the fact that Jeff Fisher Hated Vince young because he had his eyes set on Matt Leinert from his Alma mater but Bud Adams picked vince young over jeff fisher, and fisher took his anger out on young... never supported young, never stood up for him...What about vince winning rookie of the year, going to playoffs sophomore season, going 8-2 when got to play in 09
@TheBestCommenterEVER LOL good point to a degree!! Still on top if not top in selling merchindise, have the greatest stadium on Earth and, on the feild .. Well they had some great teams .. just cant get together.. if any ball this year i would say they are def. in contention for SB.... but just my opinion..but I mostly agree with you... and I looked up Brad Smith and I agree he a good player..but not CLOSE the College Player VY is not even same catagory....peace..so Jets your team??
@tevo4700blk Really? Your boy Young has been thrown off the TItans because he can't get along with the team and rarely does what he's supposed to. And his ass got put on injured reserve for a broken thumb. Jeff Fisher hates his ass, and wants him gone. And Young lost 2 outta 3 times agianst OU. His freshman year he got put in the game like 5 minutes into the first quarter. That counts as a loss in my book, unless you want to pretend he was never in that game.
Vince Young has the heart desire and leadership that tebow has, but he's a better runner, better passer, never lost a bowl game, and had possibly the greatest performance by a single person ever Tebow is good, but remember when he won the heisman, his team that year wasnt very good AND they lost michigan, when florida won their 2 NC it wasnt cause of the offense and tebow, it was because of the defense, and Tebow didnt have the best game against oklahoma this past season
hahaha i was lookin in the sports section in the arkansas democrate gazette and we got a safety recruit from texas and i told my wife oh were getting a really good safety she goes how do you know hes good, i was like cause hes from texas they only care about football and propane there. hahaha go hogs...and longhorns.
I understand that as a Sooner you predestined to be a hater. But is it too much to ask you to stick to the facts. Austin is more beautiful than all of Oklahoma combined; and Padre Island and the rolling hills of the piney woods aren't bad either. Also, I've noticed Texas has a higher toot-to-head ratio than Oklahoma. That should count also. haha!
Thats why Tebow had so many undefeated seasons. Sorry, that is a necessity to be the best at the qb position. Tebow just couldn't do it, he wasn't good enough. Would've gotten smoked by 05 Texas, and probably lost to 04 Texas as well
@thaboysarebackintown That's great, except Bradford won the heisman, and is tearing it up in the NFL. He took the St. Louis Rams from dead last to one game from being in the playoffs. By the way, Vince Young was 1-2 agianst OU.
