What a delightful, insightful, brilliant and enlightening explanation! To be honest, the eminent narrator reminded me of Dr. Faustus by Thomas Mann! What is his name? His seminal approach to the darkly side of music has opened new portals into the Faustian mysteries of existence! Concerning the artworks, I have seen Frederick Lord Leighton’s paintings, but now I love them even more! This is, by far, one of my favorite videos on RU-vid! I am looking forward to watch it, time and time again during my leisure hours.

What a beautiful composition! Thanks to everyone who made this video possible, especially LR! Question: which orchestra plays and who is the conductor??

It's a private recording and not available. I chose it because I think it really "nails" the work (even though the conductor is essentially unknown). LR

I know d'indy as the pupil of Franck, his biographer and possibly an influence that gave us any opportunity to even hear Cesar Franck's work.

Another. admirable work by D'Indy is the "Symphony on a. French. air. " , a sort of. piano concerto based on a French folk song .

This is a wonderful video of one of my bucket list pieces. Thank you!!! This piece definitely rises above virtually all of d’Indy’s output - it’s so well-structured, spontaneous, evocative and sensual, and Wagnerian in a French way. I love the way you explain how d’Indy is so inventive and crafty. I bought a score several years ago to study it - it’s so magical and should be standard repertoire. Which recording do you use the demos from?

Isn't it immediately obvious that "Istar" is a masterpiece of concept, design, expression...etc,, etc? It's amazing that the work is not better known. The recording is not publicly available, and the conductor is all but unknown. LR
