Keenan... that was my favorite Dr. Who episode ever (and I've seen them all!). It makes me cry every time I see it. And this is also one of my favorite paintings ever, so thank you Sarah 😊
this one took me literally 4 days to complete (i took a break between each layer) and such a beautiful result! Thank you Sarah Cray, never imagined that I would be able to make something like this 💓
My grandson favorites is van gough so he wants me to do a painting for him. I mainly do watercolor so I was looking for something like this. You do such a good tutorial steps and explanation I think I will try and then later have him try as well. Thank You!
This was an EXCELLENT lesson in values, thank you. And your trusty photographer sidekick is brilliant and I love the way you two respect each other and bounce off each other. Thank you!
So when I was in high school we painted this work of art. My art teacher actually had us use wax crayons to draw in the highlights and texture then paint over it with watercolor. One of the coolest reactions and it turned out to looks halfway good.
My son and I studied Van Gogh last year. One of the facts I found interesting was that he wouldn't have become famous if it weren't for his sister-in-law. She began exhibiting and working with art dealers to promote his works shortly after her husband, Vincent's brother, Theo died....6 month's after Vincent's death. She was left with abt 200 of his works and some furniture. She needed income. You have to wonder if he would be famous at all if Theo had lived??? I've been wanting to paint this since we studied him. I was able to finish yesterday!! Loved it!! Thanks!!
Wow great job… there is so much movement in that sky, I thought that the cypress tree was flames and that in Van Gogh’s mind it was heaven and hell. I will give this a go
Years ago I tried following a tutorial on Starry Night but it was in acrylics and I was using my watercolor and mine turned out awful , this was a great tutorial for watercolor so thank you for doing this , the background history was also interesting xoxo
I've absolutely loved this series, Sarah! Please consider doing another box like this next winter with different masters we can learn from! I feel like the timing is perfect to help us get through the cold dark winter days.
@@LetsMakeArt Yay yay yay! I just remember in a video Sarah mentioning how it's sometimes hard to think of projects in the dead of winter when the winter themes are kind of exhausted ;)
I LOVE your videos! I always learn something about my art work, that is nothing about paint and canvas when I listen to you teach. Thank you! And it was fun stumbling on your storefront when I was in Hamilton in October.
Great tutorial especially with the art history info. This is something I have always wanted to paint. I think I might use acrylics instead. I have found that my heart is in acrylics, water colors, inks, and drawing. mostly nature, some birds, fish, landscapes trees are a fav. Mostly abstract. I can only make a human that the eye will know it is a faceless person. I knew abstract was my highway to painting again. I spent over 2 years watching tutorials without picking up a brush. Except for picking it up at the store or door when it was delivered. LOL! So I have a lot of brand new paints etc.. Thanks for sharing.
This is used to be part of the curriculum here in uk when I was a volunteering at the local school. I would have love to have a go then but had to help some children. That had not had the experience of brushes. I am grateful that I can have a go at this. May not be this week but it is on my to do list thank you.
Made it on the fly, posted the finished picture on your FB group. Thank you for teaching me, Sarah, you're the best! I was like wait, what, no pledge? 🤣 Very nice composition, the result is stunning. 🥰
Thanks so much for your absolutely wonderful tutorial, love it especially how you explain the value and deep of the painting. Plus you are an amazing person. I’m trying my best to paint 🎨 this one of my favourite Painting from the great artist .i hope I’ll be beautiful as yours ❤️🌹

Without the oath at the beginning, I had no choice but to compare my work to my friend's, Sarah! And, now I'm questioning if it was just a coincidence that I had fun without the bell to remind me?! LOL 😂 (Btw, I loved this tutorial!!!)

Hi Sarah, What an excellent informative, fun, tutorial. Can’t wait to start this this morning. Think I will do my layers with drying time in between. What is the book you pulled over to look at when you were beginning? Thanks for getting me to actually set up to paint again.
Hi Mevs, Sarah was using this book as a reference. www.amazon.com/Van-Gogh-DK-Art-Book/dp/0751307289 Can't wait to hear how your finished project turns out.
Vincent painted the Starry Night at least 8 times, those are the found versions of his "Starry Night" that have been documented so far. It is believed that he painted more versions of the Starry Night that have not been discovered yet...
Hi Patricia! Thank you for watching this tutorial. Definitely stay tuned for more art history projects😉 The palette Sarah uses in her tutorials is a Butcher Tray palette.
