Apparently the lore for this game is exactly the same as The Neverhood. The Infomaniac is basically a god, and created Lego Island. The Brickster was the first being he created as a friend, but the Brickster became jealous when the Infomaniac started creating other people.

Two things: 1: the The cave ending is a teaser for the cancelled sequel “Beneath The Phanta Sea”. 2: there is a new LEGO island game in the making under the name “Project Island” that will be in the wacky style of the first game. In fact some developers from the first game are working on the new one. The best part is that it will include songs from the first one, including: BRICK BY BRICK TOCK BY TICK

It's a very wholesome and good natured game that had a lot of effort put into it. It's great as a relic of PC games from that era, as well as a cultural relic. The gameplay is functional and that's good enough for an old game when it has this much character going for it.

When I got this game way back when, I was too young to understand that I was perceiving the game world through my character's eyes, so I got upset because I couldn't see my character, and didn't touch the game until years later. It wasn't until I played Metroid Prime several years later that I realized what first-person perspective was. All that said, this game reminds me of frustration. Great game, though.
