This is the second VinFast review of yours I've seen and I'm impressed with both. I like the standard AWD and that they offer real leather and use dials and real buttons where so many other EVs don't. I like the looks and that most of the things that other EVs screw up, like door handles, charge port location, mirrors, etc are done right here. Having room for a spare, even if it's a space saver, is a HUGE plus that too many cars seem to lack nowadays. I know a press car may be scrutinized more than a consumer version, but the fit and finish, materials, etc look top notch (better than Tesla, who still can't seem to align body panels or make a whole car the same color and paint texture). The range is the only real negative for me. As a side note, an uncle had an Edsel with push buttons for the gear selection so that's what I thought of, not a super car.

VinFast has an excellent reputation in Asia. I hope they are successful in NA.

In Asia? I can see you are too keen to exaggerate it. Apart from the small batch of 999 EVs is still on the way to some car-hire buyer in the US, they have not sold anything outside socialist Viet nam, Their petrol car business lasts only 3 years, all of the cars they assembled were sold in socialist Viet Nam. The cars are mediocre though, the Vietnamese consumers steers clear from them as a result they did not sell enough to break even and accumulated a huge loss. It's very likely they have same result for this EV venture.

I have a reservation converted to an order to get the Fed $7500 credit for a VF8. About only item I'm not thrilled with is the large, ICE designed, gear selectors. Yikes. I also wish the VF8 was a bit more EV designed (like the VF9); door handles not flush.......drive train hump.... Otherwise can't wait to get one.

I was in the Vinfast store in San Diego, and the guy inside who I talked to said it was a chassis borrowed from a BMW. I forgot what model. The VF8 I saw was very well built. Doors made a solid "thud" when I opened, then closed them. As you say here that's this is a dedicated "Battery Electric Vehicle" platform, the VF8 I saw still had that hump in the middle of the cabin. The guy I spoke to could not explain it much more. Anyone have any information on this?

@Dqtube Год назад
I don't know how it is in their home market, but in Norway they have battery swap stations that can be used instead of fast charging. So it's a different model than Vinfast, where you have the same battery until it's in "bad" condition.
@wolfgangpreier9160
@wolfgangpreier9160 Год назад
@@Dqtube That only works when you live near one of those stations. Otherwise you have to charge the battery in the usual way. Either i will not want to visit such a station because i will never know how good the battery is i get, on the other hand i would want to visit the station after 100K kilometers every time to always get a better battery than before. It will be interesting to see their actual sales numbers in the next years.

Battery leasing is stupid. You will never keep that car that long to have it swapped. If this was a $20k car, maybe it would make sense. Battery leasing only works if you have to change it frequently. Otherwise a big NO.

@@vantrinh9406 I said that rental would make sense if the car was $20k. You are paying $50k + rental fees. That's just dumb. @@markb3866 I'm not sure $50k is a fair price. This requires assessment by experienced auditors. Renting a battery will make it difficult to resell your car.
