I haven’t played Vinhos but I want too! Thank you for the excellent play through! Keep up the great videos! Can’t wait to see the next Lacerda play through!
Together with Lisboa these are the two games I enjoy most from Lacerda. In both cases I find the game mechanisms really have a logic and intuitiveness to it.
Lisboa, On Mars, Escape Plan, and Gallerist--all great games, but somehow Vinhos has eluded me. Glad to see your playthrough! (Currently Lisboa and On Mars are tied for my fave Lacerda.)
Came back to this video for the rules teach to show my partner before we sat down to play Vinhos (2010, of course) for the first time. Monique does an amazing job explaining the rules here-- we were able to jump into our first game with (almost) no problems. We've played four games over the course of 5 days and the rules teach was definitely instrumental in getting us to feel comfortable with the game. Up next: On Mars!
Hey Robert!, so glad to hear that!! That's what this is all about for us. Monique is an absolute monster when it comes to teaching games, it's totally the reason you hear me in the back mumbling "uh huh, yep". It's best for me to stay out of her way lol. - Naveen
Vinhos is my favourite introduction into the Lacerda universe, it can be difficult to convince people to dip their feet into heavy boardgames, but when you say "you only have 12 actions" the challenge of a heavy game becomes much more palatable
This is the most comprehensive and professional Vinhos playthrough out there! Great job. It's going to be my third Vital game I'm gonna buy because of you :D
Fantastic teach and playthrough! One thing I noticed, before the Wine Fair every player who didn't issue a press release *must* do so if they have any wine available. It's true they don't get all the benefits if they did a press release as an action earlier (maybe what you were thinking by going there at the end of year 3), but they *can still add* a barrel or two to the magnates at the start of the fair, they just *can't move* a barrel for a magnate action. Again, great video!
I wonder why you have so few views when you are sooooo good. EXCELLENT job, really really good. I have this game on the shelf for 7 months and finally thanks to your great work I'm going to play it. THANK YOU.
Monique is really good at explaining games. It was organised and clear plus extra sweet voice. It is a talent. I watched a few video of vinhos game rule, only this video draws my attention and kept me watching it. I have no idea where to start when i explain such complicated game even i know everything in the game
Thank you so much for this! My partner and I finally got to play it thanks to your clear rules explanation (if it wasn’t for you guys, it’ll most likely be sleeping on our shelf for the longest time…). We also got Lisboa, for which we will definitely be watching your playthrough before playing! :)
Thank you, guys! This is the clearest rules explanation of Vinhos I've seen in the internet. Great job! I haven't tried Vinhos before but I'm considering after this video.
This was so wonderful, have just bought the game and can't think of a better way to be introduced to it. You guys are so clear, so insightful and have such a relaxing vibe, thank you!
Truly enjoy your play throughs, thanks for such great channel content! It doesn't look like this was caught, but at 53:08 I believe there is a rule inaccuracy, where you state that you are taking your Press Release as an action in order to place out barrels, "because if you wait until the Fair stage you won't be able to place barrels". However, you ARE allowed to place up to 2 barrels, on Magnates that you Satisfy, when you hold your press release at the start of the Fair phase; the only thing you are not allowed to do is move a barrel to activate/use any Magnate action in the Fair stage. Just want to point this out as it can have a huge effect on strategy and timing. Thanks again for another great play though!!
Howdy, This was a great video. I'm keen to watch these videos with "Weather Machine" coming to Kickstarter this November (2021). It's got me interested in other Lacerda games. Thank you for this series. Even tho' the video is a year old, it is very relevant!
I am really impressed that you managed to teach, play and review the game all in two hours and nothing felt rushed. Thats pretty impressive. I suppose maybe it is down to good editing?
Haha Thanks! But you are definitely on to us. We try our best to edit out the dead space when we are sitting and thinking of what we should do next on our turn. We want the viewing experience to be paced well for the audience :)
Hi. Don't let the 2010 vintage fool you. The bank adds another wrinkle, but it's not bad. On the positive side, the magnates are much simpler and smoother in the 2010 side. I prefer it greatly.
53:30 Naveen's wine should also satisfy the lady in the top row, right? Sorry if I am mistaken, I have never played this game myself. edit: And the same thing happens at 1:14:50. What am I missing here?
Superb rules explanation and great play through. Thanks so much, it’s really helped me clarify the rules in my head. Time to get it to the table and try it out at last.
Excellent runthrough, very well done, I really enjoyed watching it, very helpful in understanding the game, I actually watched twice and read the rules. This game is really fantastic 👍
This is a great game. I’m so sour that I missed getting this one. For Australia it is so so expensive. There is La Granya which is a great “farming” game that does wine amongst other things. You should give it a shot. Borrow Antlabs copy, as they got me buying it a few years back when Sir Anthony did solos.
Hi, your letsplay helped me a lot to understand how to play it properly. But i want to check some moment: 53:55, Naveen said White wine satisfies only Bruno, but Anabela wants white. Thanks for you work, like to watch your videos
At 1:03:50 Monique forgot to pay for the winery that she got a discount on. Not sure if this would have affected the ultimate outcome but it definitely gave her an advantage before the next production phase. Great game but so many little things to remember.
Monique does a great job editing out the thinking down time in between turns we take. We do it for a more enjoyable viewing experience for the audience. This game probably took an extra 30-45 mins than what was shown. Hope that helps!
I really like your videos, especially on Lacerda titles. On Vinhos play through it seems like you played a little bit less optimal than I am used to see from you. Why didn’t you divest aggressively in the beginning? I think you could have built a lot more stuff in the long run in your vineyards. Keep up the good work, though. Really appreciate how you present complex games.
Hi Jan, thanks so much! Not quite sure why we didn't play better lol. It's a bit of an older video (3 years ago) and each playthrough represents one session so anything can happen in them, really. Appreciate your kind words!
Naveen seems to have a strange hangup about wine color and I'm curious where that comes from. He repeated the same mistake like four times even after being reminded about it. Did a sommelier hurt you at some point in your life, Naveen? Great playthrough!
Loved this! One question: in another tutorial I saw them between 2nd action and production to remove the barrels off the hotels etc, representing thematically that they run out of wine and this space becomes available again. Is this different per variant?
Sorry, this is such a ridiculous comment to share, but we have that *exact same* paper-shade desk lamp that you have on your keyboard. Great minds think alike 😉😁
@1:14:15 Naveen should've produced a red wine and not a white wine. The same @1:25:35. Ultimately it didn't affect the outcome since they were both discarded.
Has there been an automa to act as a 3rd player to help tighten the 2 player exp since this release? ALSO I think it would be good/useful to put in your show notes your actual play time so that us mortals arnt disparaged by our AP as we try to come to grips with all these games you make look so easy.
The only thing similar between the two is the theme. Vinhos is much better, but it's also a lot heavier (that definitely plays a factor into why I prefer it).
@@redeyedghost1406 I've never played Vinhos, but I really enjoy Viticulture. It's a nice little game, that doesn't require too much depth of thought, but also isn't a complete throwaway either. Horses for courses... :)
@@MarkWardReacts Viticulture is definitely a good game, and is still in my collection. But, for me, 9 times out of 10, I would pick Vinhos over it. Vinhos is that good.
Quoting some remark on both I saw online somewhere: 'Vinhos is a game about wine, Viticulture is a game about making wine.' I enjoy both, but Viticulture definitely is more about the Vineyard, the estate itself, decorating and improving it, your customers and their wine-orders. Vinhos zooms out and takes in everything that has to do with wine like investments, promotions, region selecting, paying wages, international shipping, the weather. One's for fun through easy to grasp tactics, the other for enjoyment through deep strategy.
Good review. Great game. Except, variability. It should not be a point for replayability. Replayability should come from depth and game dynamics, not from variation setup. However Vhinos definitely has replayability.
Just got my first Lacerda yesterday and it’s Vinhos! Our group plays a lot of heavy euros but since Lacerda is a little different, would you recommend playing the 2016 side first and then graduating to the 2010 side?
Congratulations! We hope you enjoy your game! We actually haven't played the 2016 side. When we first played the game, we jumped straight to the 2010 side because we wanted to experience it the way it was originally intended. Also, the 2016 side doesn't have the bank, which we feel is a big part of the game.
