@FrizFroz - Actually, you can catch those nuances on your first watch, if you DON´T SKIP THE INTRO LIKE AN IDIOT... The creators are not stupd, the information in the intros is there FOR A FREAKNG REASON.

Actually, the first time Askeladd swore by the name of Odin, not by the name of Olaf. But you are right, when he does so, he lies.

Imagine if he did? Word will spread out and Thorkell would want to fight him in a duel almost immediately which he would most likely lose, and with Askeladd in the crew would ask Thorkell to join since Thors will not kill him... Jomsvikings will face off with Thors, Thorkell, and Askeladd; Canute would likely be dead and Thorfinn wouldn't be a warrior.

I think it's called the berserk mushroom i remember someone mentioning it somewhere. And according to google it was used by norse to achieve a psychoactive state just like the one we see with biorn.

@@Zura-Janai Thors called it a berserker mushroom in the show. Idk what the legit scientific name would be but they do believe some vikings would take hallucinogens before battle. But also she is right, in real life mushrooms that look like that are poisonous. They just made it look like that because its the popular way to make mushrooms look

They're called Amanita muscaria and they're not hallucinogenic, they're psychogenic. They make people who eat them extremely paranoid and aggressive.

Wtf are you talking about? He def did it to protect thorfinn and the others.. He said it would be free for all and he can beat all of them if he was alone.. He just thought it would be better to be the one to die rather than survive and have casualties specially his kid is with him

I think you misunderstood his motives. He didn’t kill them because he didn’t want to. He had given up on war and killings. That is what he believes a true warrior is. He is not trying to protect his enemies but his ideals and beliefs at the same time protecting his people. And he chose death to save his people by appealing to the warrior in Askeladd.

@@smol6193 You can translate everything you said by not wanting to kill his enemies. If you watched the whole show then you understand (or was suppose to) that Thors is the one who embodies love most accurately. "love", differently from "discrimination" (ep 18), is not to chose who to save or who to love, (his son and family, like Ragnar did) but to save and love all people in the same amounts. Thors is the true warrior because he embodies this concept of love perfectly. If you actually think about the message of the whole show you know that Thors is the true warrior, the one who embodies love, the "hero" that Askeladd is looking for, and the ideal wolrd that is "Vinland". Thors is that what every important character of this show is looking for. He IS "Vinland" for all these characters. The priest Bilbald, Askeladd, Thorkell, Canute... All these characters would find what they are looking for in Thors, because in a sense, they are all looking for the same thing, just represented by different "objects". you are pretty much on the right steps to understand it but you are not quite there yet. keep thinking how you are thinking and reflect more on the show and you will understand it. Different then some, i can see that you have it in you, based on the way you write, the capacity to understand the true beauty of this show, which only a select few can even comprehend. Good luck

@@vzgamer5738 Well when you put it that way it makes sense. But there are still few things that dont add up. Is the 'love' portrayed in this show limited to just not killing one another? The Vinland that they all imagine is just a place free of killing? If they tried to portray Thors as a symbol for 'love', it didn't get to me because of his past. It is more than just choosing to save everyone equally. So by that same definition Thors is not a true warrior. Nobody is a true warrior. He just chose to save everyone equally but not himself? Thats discrimination again if you ask me. How about killing everyone and himself? Will that be the sign of a true warrior?

Nah the whole first season is the prologue, hence he name of episode 24 is called "end of prologue"

and not killing him after he won the duel. That means Thors was doomed to be dead either Bjorn took Thorfin for hostage or not.
