The reason why Thorfinn is so small is because he is malnourished a little like Levi but no sun light also contributed to Levi being short.

He wasn't malnourished... He just didn't care enough to have a good diet. Besides, 80% of height is influenced by genetics... I believe he inhereted the hair and the height of his mother.

It is 100% due to malnourishment, it's clearly implied that he doesn't get enough food. For example when he's hungry af when the English mom and daughter find him and nurture him. Both sides of his family are massive vikings and fucking Thorkell "the Tall" is his great uncle 😂 He would without a doubt be at least 6ft if he ate enough as a child.

I hope you continue watching the show specially in season 2. There's a significant change in tone and pace in that season that a lot of shonen type viewers didn't like. But i personally love it, so as many people. Idk if you already know this and this is not a spoiler - season 1 is a prelude, the main storyline starts in season 2.

The French lord looked like he doesn't belong, because this battle was actually the opening chapter of the manga. Thorfinn's backstory originally came later, in the anime it's reversed. This episode was based on a chapter when the author still worked on getting 'the feel' of the story and the art.

something I just want to say really quick here... if there's one song, out of all the openings and endings, that I would recommend absolutely listening to alongside every episode as you go... it's the first end credit song in season 2. some anime just kinda tack cool music videos on the front and back of each episode... but this anime is art, and that ending song is absolutely part of the piece. edit around it if you have to, but I think it benefits the viewing experience to hear it.

You guys are exactly right with that short guy not fitting into the show. This episode was chapter 1 of the manga, and the author was still trying to get the style and feel of the story down. For the entire rest of the story, no other jarring character appears and nothing as outlandish as them carrying the boat across land happens again, so don’t worry about that stuff

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Carter and Cannon react to Thorfinn's training arc. This season is so good but then season 2 takes it to another level. I hope y'all increase your uploads for this show so you can catch up and I can get the feels all over again watching y'all. No anime has moved me as much as this show.

i notice that you guys especially Cannon, Carter enjoy epic battle scenes, i think what Naruto serves with various, mindblowing and cool jutsus like sharingan, amaterasu, edo tensei, rasengan, shadow clone jutsu, sage mode etc, and endless epic battles there will definitely make you guys so hyped. every character shines in their own way they’ve got their own talent, specialty and jutsu and you’ll love every each one of em no doubt

11:00 its such a depressing contrast to see Thorfinn realizing what real kindess and care is, since that's what the Lady and her daughter had shown him, and he returned it by burning their house down, and when Askeladd finally catches up to him and he realizes he just did it for Askeladd's sake. Always found this episode so sad because of this part

4:45: in one of the previous episodes, one of you called Thorfinn "mini Eren," or "Eren junior," or something. This shot right here, of him getting his first kill, and then simply raging blindly, stabbing the guy's body over and over, was a near 1:1 parallel of Eren saving Mikasa when he was about the same age, and the alarmingly raw anger he already had for a young child.

I decided to pick a the manga from where the anime left off a a couple days ago. Each season covers about 50 chapters of the manga and I'm at chapter 160 now, the end of the baltic sea war arc. I absolutely loved the first two seasons and it's one if my favorite anime but at this point, vinland saga has become one of my favorite pieces of fiction ever. You guys have no idea what's in store.

Love the bit of them carrying their boats, one of my favorite portions of Viking history, Vikings used to make their ships small cause one of the fun little pro's about that is that their lighter than the average boat, so sometimes they genuinely would carry their ships through the land to a better water source for attacking.

People back in the day aged exactly like people do now. It's a common misconception that people aged worse back then, but that's a misunderstanding. The life expectancy was lower, but that's down to people dying more from famine, wars and diseases. A healthy person eating well could've lived to their 90s back then too, and plenty people did.

You guys were asking yourselves why the french leader of that small army looked so weird. The reason for that is that people of high nobility used to do a lot of incest - resulting in weird deformations. The reason why they did that was to "keep the blood pure and the wealth in the family". Royals throughout medieval europe were known for this kind of practices. Good thing that it died out - atleast here in europe.

no amount of inbreeding results in a person with that guy's proportions, although the author might have been thinking about that while doing the design. but the design being SO exaggerated is almost definitely a result of that episode having actually been the first chapter of the manga and the author not quite having settled on how consistently realistic he wanted his character designs to be my only issue about the anime adaptation tbh is that whether they wanted to go for the inbred royal vibe or not, the adaptation was a great chance to eliminate the one character design in the whole series that doesn't fit at all, but they didn't do that, and after several episodes of high realism, it's even more jarring not a huge deal but it bugs me sometimes

@@MalkuthSephira Dude have you seen inbreeding results? Look in the middle east where children are born with 7 toes on each feet. That happens because people are married to their first born cousin. Now think what would happen if a brother/sister duo got children. I know it because my country has a history of inbreeding between royals. This resulted in heavy damage - be it braindamage or deformation. For example the royals here had deformed lips - that in fact made them look horrendous. Physically they were also way more frail than others too. Edit: Also im pretty sure that it was intended to show inbreeding because the only "deformed" beings are royalties from what ive seen so far. If other non important characters would show deformities in that way I would assume that you are right. But so far it all points to the fact that the Author tried to give us a realistic glimpse into royalties back in medieval times.

I'm 7:00 in right now, and it's so crazy to me rewatching this and seeing Thorfinn using Thor's own dagger(s) to become the very thing Thors did not want him to become. He did everything he could to teach Thorfinn that he has no enemies and not to kill, but unfortunately the opposite came to pass

Long bows are great for mid to long distance and certain armor types. Crossbows have a short range but are more known to punch through armor. Crossbows def changed the game on sieging fortresses back in those shyty days.

If you are wondering why this toad guy feels so out of place, it's because he is. Episode 7 was the first manga chapter and I guess Yukimura wasn't certain about the tone and style of his story. Luckily, most of the story remains grounded and less cartoony. So yeah, we don't talk about toad guy :D

From the start, I thought Thorfinn is a combination of Eren and Armin! spoilers for season two: . . . . . And now after I finished season 2 realized I was actually right :) people really thought he was going the Eren route but I could feel it in my core that he has an Armin inside him 😄

Thorfinn is basically Eren, if Eren sided with the alliance and chose to make peace with the outside world, but in the world of AoT that seems kinda impossible, so Eren turning into the villain of the story is more fitting with his character.

yes, but Eren was capable of killing people as a 9-year-old with much more ease than Thorfinn! thorfinn just seemed to struggle more with his first kill and he even vomited seeing a dead body, but Eren would murder with no problem when it comes to his loved ones or his freedom...

I've been crying every week lately whenever I watch Vinland Saga season 2. 🥹I can't help but hope that season 3 will be in production now!!! By the way, please don't forget this kind English lady. Everytime we get blinded by basdassness here comes a counterpart scene to show how what we though was badass, in reality is just brutal, gruesome and sad... And this is what peak VS looks like.
