@@jimmyfreeman5714Not really, they were always into hard rock/glam/metal. Their dad was a country music producer so I'm sure they were exposed to it...and could do country rock with the best of them if they wanted to.
Power house of a drummer. He hit so hard and yet had the speed and precision to keep everything lined up perfectly. I've watched a good amount of Pantera live shows and i haven't heard him make a mistake once.
@@dime_stealth4203 I'm not talking down on vinnie at all but I think john was at such a high status because he was that unique and talented at such a young age and he was very influential
When him and Dime hit that "groove" it was a new phenomenon in metal. So glad I saw Pantera multiple times. The absolute tightest band ever. Just incredible.
I love how they used to light his drum kit back in the day. It used to look like an Olmec head or some death mask or something with the double bass and toms looking like eyes and a nose. Pantera was badass but I think I liked him more in HellYeah. He was just so polished and perfect, so saturated and compressed. I loved his sound on those albums. He truly was a rock God. RIP.
I was blessed to go to Jr.High at Bailey in Pantego Texas and me and my friends would skip class and ride our PK Ripper BMX bikes down the street to the studio and sit outside and listen to them play back in the early days...82-84...smokin weed and lookin up to these older guys and getting a thumbs up from them as they came in and out of the studio, we were the local metal head kids...we knew they would be huge. RIP Vinnie & Dime. They were genuinely good people.
When Darrell was killed I for sure thought Vince was done, I figured he wouldn't go on without his right hand man. I'm so glad Vinnie Paul got a new lease on life with Hellyeah. RIP Brick Wall.
Yes sir. He like his drums like he liked his titties.. Vince did it like it should be done. New age shit metal bands should take a look back to the cfh and vulgar days
@@dime_stealth4203 I use shallower toms and I'm no "new age shit" metal drummer. I find the shallower sizes give a kick and less muddied sound without triggers.
May not have been my favorite drummer but damn he for sure was the loudest I ever heard. His bass drums would beat you up and that was at a open air stadium in Dallas
Not the fastest, not the most technical in modern Metal BUT in my opinion the last one with such an unique sound and style that is heart in a few seconds. Something that Mcbrain, Paice, Ulrich got and millions of modern drummers and their pro tooled Records havent got: Individuality ...and remember: Most great Rock drummers came out of jazz an blues and created so their "weird" grooveness in Rock. Mitchel, Baker,....Vinni comes from southern ans marching styles to metal and so he seems 'bounce' and breath that Heavy stuff. His signature snares arent so "sharp" and "cutty", they fit also warmth and bottom.
I know this might be controversial, but I think vinnie and Dime were a better brother duo then Alex and Eddie…. It’s like they took it to a new level, of confidence and power!
The biggest wife-beater, i mean, cymbal abuser on the planet, all the cymbals on earth got together and filed a restraining order on him becuz he would just fuck'em up daily. No one could stop him from abusing those poor innocent cymbals. Man, we miss him. RIP, Vinnie Paul!!! You sure were one of the best and the biggest inspiration to so many drummers!
Vinnie Paul, one of the greatest drummers EVER ! no longer with us ? that is so sad, i hope Vinnie and Dime are kicking up a storm in the afterlife forever,,, R.I.P.
@@rorrycalhoun836 the singer from Skynyrd is sitting in on vocals. Dime is jamming out some freebird! Cliff Burton on bass. I bet Dime could give that solo a whole new meaning. I don’t think these guys were really into heavier stuff before Phil introduced them to stuff like Slayer. Phil said the heaviest band they liked was Metallica when he joined. Dime is jamming out trading licks with Van Halen, Randy Rhodes and Ace- some of his faves. Nm Ace is alive lol 😂
Ten of my favorite Vinnie Paul performances: Primal Concrete Sledge (1990) Fucking Hostile (1992) Becoming (1994) 13 Steps To No Where (1996) *I'll Cast A Shadow* (2000) New Found Power (2004) Get Outta My Life (2006) Matter Of Time (2007) Blood For Blood (2014) I Dont Care Anymore (2016)
...*sigh*....there will never be another Dime...another Vinnie...I hate that yall are gone. But truth be told, you ain't missed nothing. But we all sure miss the hell outta you.
Sure there are all these "Faster" metal drummers out there, But Vinnies style and personality behind the kit is what makes him my favorite. I know he uses triggers too, But his drum sound was always perfect and on point.
Miss that guy so much. His energy, coolness with the fans and just general over-the-top awesomeness will never be duplicated. A true inspiration for sure.
That's because that shit was in his head man. He grew up listening as a young lad as his dad was a music producer. Granted, it was country but he learned timing and learner alot growing up from musicians before him. Very smart dude in music Vince was.
I remember my buddy had a think it was a Honda Civic with the most outrageous sound system n we were riding around n I ask if I could play something ( before that we were forced to listen to rob base n whoudini n stuff , which was cool ) so I threw in Cowboys from Hell cassette. He had to pull over n ask “ holy shit !!! What is that !!! “ from then on it was the “mobile metal melee” 🤘🏼 Rip Vinnie 🤟🏼( n thanks for being so nice n personable at phase 2 )
Vinnie was awesome... why... although pantera was a band for quite a while before they were popular. Of course there are the stories of why Phil was brought in but he still shit himself in tights doing hair metal covers. But ok... vinnie if you listen progressively got better and better.... that doesnt come from just drinking and partying like everyone thinks.... consider the fact rappers get arrested for bullshit for street cred... rock stars have done the same thing for drinking and partying... you cant write record and perform super fucked up... it's just a fact.. But vinnie had to have been practicing and working rather hard when you consider what happened between their start and great southern trendkill... The shittiest part is that only some people can write stuff together. When his brother was gone.... ach.... I cant even imagine that scenario
