“It beats as it sweeps as it cleans” was Hoover’s original slogan in the US in the early 1900s. It referred to the only methods of cleaning floors that had previously existed - beating rugs after they’d been taken outside and draped over something, or sweeping with a broom. This wonderful new machine did it all!
My friend still has hers 40 odd years later. She got it as a wedding present. She said the only thing she's ever had to replace is a little black belt that goes round the beater bar and the fan which she does every few years. She wouldn't have a new one if you give it her for free she said. I've borrowed it and it lifts the carpet. Apart from it being noisy it works great
Just for the comments and Subscribing The original Hoover factory at Perivale in Middlesex was turned into a Tesco supermarket which is a shame. They should bring these machines back to Britain, made in Britain.
Charlie hard to do it because the filtering in these was all down to the bag - and the paper bags changed a lot over the years, stick a new type fleece bag on one of these and it’ll filter far better than a 1960’s bag. I guess the worst offender before Hoover introduced the paper bag was the 119 Junior that literally filtered nothing except large debris - love them to look at but utterly useless with dust - you were better off sweeping the carpet than throwing all that dust into the air as you vacuumed with it.
