Back in the 70s I saw countless brands of AM FM stereo tuners and receiver/amps at many music stores of the day. SONY being one of them. but as one would of expected even in the 70's all were strictly AM FM I have never remembered any having shortwave until last year when I spotted this ultra rare 70's example at a pawn shop and scooped it for 25 bucks. Did some cleaning and restoration work to get in good working order.Great FM sound I like the FM mute which lets in those weak FM signals and has good stereo sound. The shortwave works good too although probably not a big selling point in an age of the emerging FM radio TV cable and crisp vinyl record sound of the early to late 70's also quite an oddity in this part of the world but really cool,.The heat from the original incandescent tuner lights tend to warm up the metal tuning capacitor and de-tune the SW signal unless it warms up for 1/2 hr. Not a problem for AM or FM with their wider band widths. The AM unfortunately is out of alignment and some oscillation at times. The video is mixed with synced up direct line separate audio recording for improved sound quality.
I recently replaced the original incandescent lights they were the automotive interior fuse shaped lights with made excessive heat over 110 degrees peak, as hot as a tube radio. luckily I found new LED versions which vastly makes my receiver temperature much cooler and better at keeping the SW stations free of frequency drift.
