In a sad way, WoW actually saved my life when I was a teenager lol. I lived in an area where drugs and alcohol were the thing to do. So while kids I went to school with were out doing drugs and drinking, I was inside playing WoW for hours. I'm 37 yrs old now and all of those kids I knew from back then are dead, struggling with addiction, or in prison/jail. I dont regret anything and I'm still playing after 20 yrs.
Same here man! As Savageix says you saved money instead of going out to the clubs that all my friends did! Now I can tell I did not miss anything by playing wow instead. And o the memories!!
Same here. I'm 38 now but BEGDEN I was ~19 and all of my friends started doing drugs, many of them took cocaine and pills. Not only WoW saved me from getting a drug and an alcohol addict, it also prevented me from suicide, because BEGDEN I've lost a family member and a friend (accidents), my gf broke up and my mother became terminally ill. I went trough a hard depression, failed college and WoW was my only escapism.
I still remember a friend of mine introducing me to Classic WoW back in middle school, going to his house to play, getting my first computer. Finally convinced my parents to let me play at home, then mom saw the news video from the beginning of the this video, banned me from playing at home and told my friends parent I was not allowed to be around that game at his house. I had to go full secret agent to find ways to play back in the day.
dude those were the times man. getting up at 4-5 am before school, enjoying the chill vibe, getting some auctions done, farm some herbs/ores was pretty chill
Craziest part is when it was young boys its a HUGE problem and a CNN special, but when every teenage girl is on TikTok its just immediately accepted as the new normal.
I would do the same. Before school at around 4:30-5AM, I would sneak into my grandpa's room while he's sleeping, launch his PC with a blanket over the monitor, and play WoW while he snored. Sometimes he'd wake up and go, "What the- ?" and I'd have to quit playing, haha. Some of the best times of my life. Miss you, Papaw.
I still remember the moment when wotlk came out, me and my friend rushed to another friend who had the best internet, he downloaded the game and RIPed it on a DVD-ram discs (2!), we headed to my friend to install and and then to me. Good times.

In TBC the best elemental shaman in my guild went on .....Dr Phill I think. It was lit. He was a hero. But I'm pretty sure his wife made him go as like a hail mary before she was gonna leave him.
it's sad that china kid was only playing for 36 hours and died from it... I have gone 74 hours leveling and gearing for an expansion without sleep. Still playing and have never stopped paying the sub for 20 years. As soon as I saw I save a month worth $ using the 6month sub I have been on that since it started. That is about 80$ CAD. The cheapest 6 month thing I have ever bought.
