It was a treat to go to Houston in the Spring and Fall to get a new Straw & Felt & watch them put your chosen crown in the hats! Damn...makes me feel like a teenager again!
That’s a vintage Chocolate American, with a telescope crown. It’s been in a box since shaping and Lionel (the owner) has it for sale. It’s 71/4 in size.
So wherever they are from is a cowboy hat kind of like a rite of passage or something? Like as soon as the son sees the first hint of hair on his balls does he go tell his dad and that's when it's time to go get it his first cowboy hat?
Unfortunately they do not make that hat any more. But that shape can be done on any open crown hat. An American 7x will run you around $370-400 depending on where you get it.
My old American hat company hat got eaten by my gf's dog. I bought it in 87, it survived bull riding, hunting Trips, trap lines, fishing and lots of daily wear, only to be eaten. I need a new lucky hat that will wear as good as that
Rip wears a Greeley chocolate with 5 3/4 crown and 4 inch brim in a reiner shape. It’s not been well taken care of as can be seen in many photos, the back is bowed badly. This crown would have been way too high to turn it into something like that.
@@CowboyCartel very awesome! Thanks for replying as well! I'm up here in okc area not quite sure where yall are at but would love to look into purchasing a hat. I like Rips hat because of the same reason everyone else does he's a great character lol. Not that I'm trying to mimick it exactly but could you guys possibly make something along the lines of it? For example I really don't get around to getting gussied up so I don't need one that's pristine in its condition. I do sort of like the 'road worn' look to it. Sort of like when you can get a guitar that's been relicd, it adds a good look I think. Is there the slightest possibility of not getting an exact Rip Wheeler hat but you know a darker colored road worn style? I wear 7 3/4 to 7 7/8 depending on the maker to be honest. I have an MHT 7 3/4 that I picked up in Waco and it's a pretty forgiving hat it's almost too soft where it's starting to lose a bit of its shape. Sorry for the long reply but would love to get a good everyday hat. I have always wanted a Stevie Ray Vaughan styled hat as well I just don't think it is a style I could pull off.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 vintage American Brand hat with a whole wall stack of Resistol brand hats in the background 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 check your surroundings before you post a video 🤣🤣🤣
It’s a focus on a specific hat, not the store that sells 10 other brands. It was kind of Cavender’s to allow us to video there, and we appreciate them for their continued support as an American Hat company retailer. Thanks for commenting
