@@vintageaudioreview only a gear head would appreciate gear help. 😁 But I have heard many wonderful stories, though their quality does relieve the service desk a lot I would presume. These are turn on and turn off a decade later. Still not trading in my Citation 12 deluxe 😎
@@vintageaudioreview looking forward to that for sure. Looking at a citation 22 or 24 to complete my preamp and tuner. But need a second pair of speakers first. My ESL 57 are being driven by the 12, but there is no way I dare to turn it up past half way. Sounds wonderful, bought the 2x series new with a Marantz CD 80. Only had it serviced once. Back than quality was still affordable 😔😀
@@annebokma4637 I would say that you still have quality with several companies, though they were (are) pricey unless you pick up their older gear (thinking McIntosh, Bryston). Good luck on your search for the 22 or 24!
Nice review. I remember these amps well in the showrooms. I would like to see a Bryston 3B-ST reviewed. That was a very common Bryston amp. I have owned two of them now.
Thanks Dan for sharing/commenting! I am kinda at the "mercy" of a few local "audiophile" friends as to what I am able to get my hands on to look at, and don't know anyone who has any other Bryston gear, but that could change anytime....
Thank you! I actually ended up with two of them and am listening to them now- they are connected as monoblocks- right now one is on top of the other so I may need to add some spacing if they get warmer than I like, but that does nt seem to be the case so far.
Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion and taking the time to share it. I just checked and Bryston charges $1000 to replace the caps and some other things, and another $400 to replace the output devices- at least for the 3B and 4B models- one would think it would much less for a 2B..? I actually replaced ALL of the electrolytics on one of the 2B-LPs that I have (5 of them right now) and there was very little difference in what I measured before and after the cap replacement- I would doubt that you could hear the difference. All of the caps I removed I tested and they tested good- for the larger ones they measured slightly less, but probably withing the +/- 20% rating they have. I did it mainly for the guy who is getting it and to see whether or not it made sense to replace them in all of the 2B-LPs that I have- it does not.
Ayup & Dito. No decorative upgrades for the 2B though. Makes sense, but it would be 'kinda neat with new sinks, knobs and/or finish from Bryston design. No way I'd be willing to pay the bill however. But day dreaming is free. 🔈🔉🔊
@@TriAmpHiFi For what it's worth, I have recapped several of the 2B's and there is really no difference whatsoever in their measured performance- there is a reason they could offer a 20yr warranty!
No, hey your opinion just saved me capping service. So, it's worth that! And, be quiet........I don't have mine yet. I'm willing to dip a toe into vintage with this Bryston. I'm going to run just my Morel soft domes with it. Thanks for reinforcing my choice. I hope it holds up. 🔈🔉🔊
@@vintageaudioreview Did I hear you're a Crest Audio fan? There's an FA901 in Georgia on Ebay for $125 right now. (maybe some reciprocal kindness on a 2B w/XLR & gains some time)🔈🔉🔊
Hi there! I'm enjoying your channel -- just discovered it in the past week or two. As an absolutely crosseyed-silly fanboy of the Bryston 2B-LP, there was one thing you said that I honestly may not have heard right, but if I did, it had me a bit non-plussed: It sounded like you said that this model was produced over a very short time in the mid-1990s? No way: The 2B-LP was introduced in the very early 80s and was still in production until not all that long ago (though the chassis was redesigned in the early 2000s to match the rest of Bryston's new look). I had two of these running a pair of KEF 104/2's in 1992, so I can confidently say that there were at least two of them in existence at that time. ;-)
Thanks once again for taking the time to comment and glad you found the channel! There was a model 2B and later the 2B-LP came along with the pro version as well. I am not sure where I got the dates for their production, but I found it from an article or maybe the Audio annual equipment guides, but I am happy to stand corrected. Running them in mono would be nice with the 104.2s. I have a pair of the 2B-Lps now and have them running as monoblocks for my LaScalas 😃
Thank you so much for the review. I currently have this amp and i doubt that it might have gone out of bias. May i please request you to please let me know if you could help / show or tell how we could set that back to factory setting ? Love your content and detail as always.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I ended up keeping two of the Bryston's and was curious about the bias adjustment as well as the DC offset levels, which are not adjustable unless you add a circuit to offset them (I did not do). The biases should be around 13-16mv I believe, and there is a pot to adjust that on the board, and you measure across the two jumper pins that are on the board. You should have no signal going into the amp and it hooked up two a dummy load or I suppose a speaker would do. Hope that helps.
@@vintageaudioreview Awesome, the build quality of these Brystons are reliable and far ahead compared to the cost to quality we see these days. I will follow you and choose to keep these for good :). Thank you for sharing the information. I shall ensure i follow your instructions. I guess you are referring to the test point that available on each of the circuit where i can hook the probe up (while the ground is connected and no signal going in). Allow me a few days on this and will come back. Be well and thank you so much for taking out time to write back, the community thrives because of rockstars like you. Peace.
@@Creeptonic Thanks for the compliment, though I do not consider myself a rockstar 😄There is only one test point for each channel, you are correct. I used one of those old computer CD drive to motherboard connectors (only 2 wires are used) to connect to test point if that makes any sense.
@@vintageaudioreview You are kind. Thanks again for confirming the test point bit. I will check later this week and share an update. Have a lovely week ahead.
