Just subscribe; 7/12/2021. Great looking bikes…..but my dad worked at a lumber yard and mom was the best at keeping up even with her arthritis. My bike was extended front forks using cut off pieces from another set of forks slid on then drilled and bolted front caliper break bracket from a flattened piece of copper tubing, handle bars were bent in, banana seat was set back using 3/4” water pipe and a 90 elbow, tall sissy bar, the three speed shifter was mounted on the down tube of the seat pipe.had a large knobby rear tire,skinny front tire. As I got older I switched to 10 speed road bike. My father told me when he rolled the home made chopper out to the curb on garbage day it was gone before he got back in the kitchen. I guess I got this fabricating tinkering bug from my father and my son and daughter have it too, hopefully the grandkids have it too. Thanks,stay safe.

I loved the 70's with all the ape hanger bars, sissy bars, and the banana seats. I remember how everyone wanted that chopper look and some guys went as far as cutting off the lowers from other forks, stacking the pieces, and then welding them together.

@deborahchesser7375 3 года назад
I did exactly that, ground em down nice and painted em. Shit yeh we did that, I had one bike that had 8 sets with the last one flipped over, it was dangerous as hell but it looked cool, for an 8 year old in 74’ lol

We would replace the whole fork using chrome touring bike (10-speed) forks. Not as flashy, but the bike still rode well.
@shawnfreeoftyranny8849
@shawnfreeoftyranny8849 2 года назад
You were big time to have a welder for them. We had a drill and 2 smaller bolts to attach extra forks. To cool though to here from others we did the same things in our day with no internet or cell phones to spread the word on tricking things. Surely spawned a lot of later careers for the kids that upgraded their own toys.

We just got a hack saw and cut forks off an old bike and just hammered them on and hoped they stayed.
@arizonaunplugged-neilbrook9509
I had a Schwinn stingray and ordered a chopper fork from the Sears & Roebuck Catalog… I also had a sissy bar in the back…… I have to admit it was a much simpler time, and the music was bad ass🤙🏽👊🏽🤘🏽

When I kinda out grew my Sting Ray I found an set hollow tube front forks off another bike and cut them off and hammered them on my Sting Ray and after a little grinding and some Bondo I had an awesome extended forks …hey I was 12 years old that was the limit of my abilities at that point…😂😂😂😂

I remember trash picking parts of old bikes to build something to ride. We couldn't afford a new bike , but we had the most unusual bikes around. Long forks up front, ducked tape seats, funky handle bard. I wish we had pic to post.

I had half of those bikes growing up. Every summer we were building a different bike. I recently had the good fortune of finding a near mint condition Raleigh Rodeo 3+2 at a garage sale. The tires were dry rotted but had no wear on them. Everything was amazing. Got it for $25. I'll prolly be buried with that thing.

I got a matel corporation vrroom bike 1964 model that's all chrome with racing red stripped fenders. A 20 inch frame. It's missing the toy motor on it that made it sound like a motorcycle engine. Has shocks on back of seat. The seat is shaped like a motorcycle seat. It's a cool looking bicycle though.
