Man the cable management brings back so many memories. As for the floppy drive, in my teenage days I always had a bottle of alcohol around for the floppy and the keyboard, alongside a bottle of another type of alcohol for consumption. Regardless, this will come as an obvious or worthless recomendation, but before connecting any kind of floppy or cd/dvd reader, clean it.
Hi thank you! It depends how far you want to go, at some point the cost of repair would obviously be higher than just buying another drive.... if the stepper motor fails, that part could be hard to get. the motor driver for the spindle motor, that can be hard to get. But not impossible. If the actual magnetic heads go bad; then you're screwed :(
Yes it is. You can use a program called Imagedisk for it. It's a DOS program that lets you continuosly read sectors and seek between them, telling you if it can or cant read it, and how many sectors it recognizes. Cheers!
If you can't format the disk and read it, it's not a problem with alignment. Misaligned heads won't let you read disks from other drives and your own before misalignment, but you should be able to format a disk that will only work on your drive.
