I came to this video since I was cleaning and doing a minor restoration on my 143 Columbian vise. Specifically, I was looking for info on replacing the screws holding the jaw face to the body. Even though that did not come up, I enjoyed watching your restoration. The camera angle gave a good view of the work being done. I would like to see more notes on what chemicals were being used for the various steps. These are what I picked up while watching: 1. "Deep Creep" - by SeaFoam - a penetrating oil & lubricant 2. 3 large buckets of chemical, used middle one before sandblasting. What were they (specifically and generically) 3. I am assuming the blue green tint to the metal at 4:0 is due to the light reflecting from your gloves and shirt which looked to be the same color. Is that correct? If not, what caused the color ? 4. Was that Frog Tape you used for pre-paint masking ? 5. "Poritl" - Paint Base Coat? Rust inhibitor ? - Could not find 6. What type of red spray paint? 7. What was the lubricant used at 16:30 8. Was that silver paint in the tube you used to highlight the letters ? Do you have an overview video that describes all of the chemicals and tools that you use for your renovations? That would be useful and you could reference that in each of your other videos. Thanks much for your video.
The product in the buckets is a rust remover, "Evaporust". It is expensive but works well. Not sure what green tint you mean probably just lighting. Yes I use Frog tape. Base coat is Self etching primer, (any Brand is fine) The red paint I used was Tremclad brand. Grease was just a cheap synthetic grease. The lettering was highlighted with a silver paint pen purchased off Amazon. Hope this helps.
I know I need to buy a better camera. I was hoping to build a bit of a following before making too much of an investment, but I guess it's time. Thanks
Thanks for your comment. Sorry about the angled shot. The mount for my camera moved and I didn't notice till after. I thought the video was still worth leaving in so there it is.
