Gifted to D-lab electronics by K0UKL a former EF Johnson engineer (over 30 years with the company). I am blown away looking over the documents, manuals, pictures and listening to a voice recording from Edgar F Johnson himself! This information will reside at my shop for reference & radio repair. It is NOT for sale, dont ask. I grew up with Johnson equipment. My Dad taught me how to repair it starting at the age of 12. This is the best Christmas gift I could ever hope to receive. This video is the box opening. I hope to have time for a more detailed presentation. Enjoy!

I had several E.F. Johnson manuals, when I closed my business, they went to someone else. I really miss finding the original Johnson banana plugs. They were the best. Oh! what memories!

I would digitize as much of that as I could, it would be so much easier to search for things!

I wouldn't mind having access to a couple of those for just long enough to scan and add to my collection. Many of the manuals that you find online are blurry and often incomplete or are copies of schematics that someone scribbled their mods on. That's one sweet haul. I could spend days going through all of those manuals and taking notes from them.

Priceless find right there ! I had a cobra/dynascan salesman gifted me a pile of manuals i still use today occasionally. A full box of every 1 thru 293 of sams cb photofacts, full set of "secret cb" , and manuals and service manuals from cobra/dynascan of every cb radio made.up thru cobra 2000. There also was a new in box cobra 60 channel radio never sold. It was made to get the jump on the channel expansion planned by the fcc but they reneged on 60ch and only gave 40ch to the public. This is not an export radio made by todays standards. It still looks new and still sets coverd on my workbench. Works perfectly. Great catch on those manuals d lab. Im sure youll love them as muchc as i love mine! Enjoy

The audio about his life is mind blowing...his station and all of it! Even the recordings of the transmissions were so cool.

2:26 - "Pilot light" (?) Maybe Johnson was as vertically-integrated as Tektronix and made their own pilot lights! UPDATE: I didn't realize that E. F. Johnson started as a components manufacturer! (21:54)

What a precious and priceless gift! Every SK hopes that his memories and artifacts will live on and most seasoned hams dream of receiving those memories someday. PS. I'm elated that the record mentions Reginald Fessenden. Brant Rock (part of Marshfield Massachusetts) sits midway between Boston and Cape Cod. It's just north of Plymouth. 73 OM

This was awesome I had no idea that the johnson radios was founded in my home state of Minnesota. It's only an hour and a half from where I live.

Great collection, Terry. This was ALL in-house documentation? I would think *hams* would be a target-audience for published documentation; very strange.

15:09 - I see what appears to be advertising of their product-line on the back-cover. (?) Terry, are you sure that a manual wasn't shipped with each unit?

I am rehabbing a house in Texas and found a 3 radios. One is an EF Johnson Model 242 0123 002. My son in law is interested in getting started with the radios but we can find any information on getting this thing running. There was also an older tube radio in the attic. I don't want to throw them away; but, I also don't know what to do with it. Please help this new to the radio scene grandma.

My grandfather was an electronics guy from the 20’s through the 80’s. He studied the Sams Fotofact mail order thing. I’m not, I’m just a fan of these things.
