Hello lovelies, I have my April thrift store haul for you with a ton of exciting new stuff from vintage decor and beauty products. I am so interested in all of the vintage lipsticks especially all of the shades. I want to do some research and see if some of these shades are still available today. Let me know if you know the date of any of these lipsticks. I am also considering removing the lipstick from the beautiful vintage case and replacing it with new lipsticks. I have been obsessing over Avon lately and want to do vintage Avon products that you can still buy today video. It has been rather difficult sourcing information online about this subject. If you happen to know of any vintage Avon products that you can still buy today please let me know in the comments below.

When I was a girl, my mother had one of those fancy Avon lipstick cases. When I was in college, Estee Lauder had a case you could buy and put your plastic case in. Francis Denney was a big brand. She put out two famous perfumes, Hope and Interlude. I had a Sunbeam hatbox hairdryer. You could set it on a table and sit and read while your hair dried just like at a salon. Blow drying is work compared to that. Timeless is one sort of vintage (70's) scent still available. It's a nice scent and men always notice it favorably. My two favorites no longer available were Cotillion and Persian Wood. Much of their modern stuff is so "meh" compared to those. My mother wore Persian Wood.

Oh interesting, I still need to try my hair dryer with curls in it. That’s my next project. I will have to check out timeless. I also read sweet honesty is a vintage Avon scent

For rich scents that men like I think Tabu by Dana is still available from that era. I used to love Coty's Sandalwood which came in a very exotic shaped bottle. I also wore Helena Rubenstein's "Apple Blossom." My older sister had one of those case hairdryers, a marvellous invention. Our lives as women were far more pleasant and leisured then. We all had dressing tables and vanity sets. You sat down to "do your toilette" surrounded by lovely things and read a book while your hair was setting. This was in the days before heated rollers and curling irons. We really looked after our crowning glory.

So totally agree with you. The plastic packaging is cheaper for these companies, but the metal is so much nicer!

Revlon always used to do their lipsticks in beautiful, gold, fluted containers, now they are grey plastic. Same beautiful formula lipsticks but not so much fun to apply.

Estee lauder "stay all day" lipsticks come in gold metal packaging. Some shades have a vintage vibe, like frosted apricot. My mom gave me a hot coral one in the late 1990s. They may have a longer history, I'm not sure.

Hi Laura, after I saw the needlework picture that you bought, I remembered that I made, with my own hands approximately 20 Needlepoint pictures , which I still have, working on them in my spare time, all in the 70's and some later, as I am hooked on making them, and I have them hanging in my house, one is over my couch, which I made in the early part of 1978, while working for H.U.D. as a Secretary, and I worked on it for four hours a day; and it took six months to finish. It is pretty large and it has lots of fall colors and it has a house and a windmill, and two women and a child in it. I cannot believe it how much patience I had to make it and finish it. You have brought vintage things into my mind and thank you for that. I like your cat Pinkie.

Mother and I always have those hairdryers! You roll your hair and then just slipped a little bonnet over your rollers in your hair would be dry just as if you had been at the beauty parlor! I know they look really weird today, but hello, if you had your hair rolled and needed to dry your hair quick, those little bonnet dryers worked really really well! I just love your channel! I had a happy childhood in the 50s and 60s and love looking back and remembering all these sweet reminders of what was surely a happy time in my life! Love vintage items still! Bless you for the time you take exposing others to the delights of earlier times! 💐🌷💕

You do such a nice job with your videos, Laura! I, too, love vintage cosmetics and beauty products. I have 2 1950s jewelry boxes, having recently acquired the second one. I am old enough to have used a hair dryer almost identical to the one you showed. My hair was naturally curly at a time when nothing but pin straight hair would do. So, I put my hair in gigantic pink plastic rollers and attempted to fit that bonnet over them. Very uncomfortable to sit under that for a solid hour, but I must have thought it was worth it at the time! My favorite thing that you found was that adorable card of vintage barrettes. Thanks again for a great video!

As regards the lipstick colors - yes indeed those pale pale shades were all the rage in the 60s. I suppose they were a reaction to the vivid reds and oranges of the 30s, 40s and 50s! I first started wearing lipsticks in the late 70s when the brown and burgundy shades were in vogue - very dramatic and goth-like. 😁 I love your channel and adore your background music. ❤️

The hairdryer brings back memories. They should make them like that again. I used to just blow dry my hair with the hose end, not the cap. I straightened my hair, but Mum set hers in rollers so she needed the cap. ☺💕⚘
@lizbrown7232
@lizbrown7232 4 года назад
I put my long hair up in big rollers and partially dried it under the bonnet, then took out the rollers one by one and used just the hose and a brush to blow dry each piece. Took hours! My favorite Avon scent in the sixties was Hana Gasa, which I think was what a Japanese parasol was called. My first make - up was a compact of Avon eyeshadows in blue, green, brown and a pinky cream colour, and the cake Maybelline mascara in the red box that you mixed with water (it was useless).

I agree that those old hair dryers were a great product. I had one of the Sunbeam hat box hair dryers. It was so relaxing to sit and read while drying your hair. You ask why they aren't still made. I believe it is because setting hair on rollers has almost died out. The lady who cuts my hair says setting hair on rollers is no longer taught in cosmetology school. That blew me away. There is only one old lady at the local salon who knows how to set hair for the older ladies who want it. I've had a blunt cut longish bob for several years now. I love the freedom to just run a brush through it and go, but there is nothing relaxing about having to stand up in the bathroom and blow it out after shampooing! As recently as 2010 when I retired I had been using electric hot rollers every morning and was shocked when I went to an unfamiliar salon and they didn't have any hot rollers to style my hair. They did a bad job of it with a curling iron, and the curl didn't even last until I got to the next place I was going that day.

Oh wild that is crazy to hear that. I have never had my hair set professionally but I have always wanted to try it
@sherylwickenheiser2582

I saw bonnet attachments for your blow dryer on amazon. I used sponge rollers back in the day and recently went back to using them. They don’t damage your hair if you don’t use heat. The curl lasts longer for me especially if i use setting lotion. (Hair gel). I sleep on them with no problem, other than my husband making fun of me! Lol

If you do your picnic photo shoot, put a pie in it!😋 I think your cat teapot might be from the late 80s -- I had an English teapot in those same colors shaped like a cottage and it looks like it could be from that same manufacturer (Sorry I can't remember the name and I no longer have the teapot!😭)

I own one & yes, I use it to set my hair when it's in rollers, but I actually find it dries my hair better & faster than the handheld one, so sometimes I just put it over my wet hair & let it dry. My mother would not let me use lipstick till I was in my late teens because when she was young (vintage times!) those lipsticks were so bad, they pretty much bleached her natural lip color away permanently, so even though modern lipsticks don't have those harmful chemicals, she still had that perception about lipsticks. And she is not the only one - ask anyone who was young in 50-s-70s.

Not to be rude but that thing on your head doesn't go with the dress which is lovely. It looks out of place and makes your bangs really flat.

I was short with my reply. I apologise. What I meant to say is, it's very hard to wear a turban and have it look good. Most turban wearers tuck all their hair up into the said turban. With such straight hair and full bangs it is my humble opinion that a snood would look so much nicer.

Queen of Hearts Land of Joy There is a FASHION HISTORIAN from ENGLAND that does a channel with a short RED bob and wears those turbans with all different sorts of outfits and is absolutely adorable! Yes. They probably look different than the trucker hats you’re used to seeing in your trailer park.
