I got the exact same bike I purchased back in 1993. The only thing I've ever changed are the tires. I still ride it about 600 miles a year. It's a great bike. Nice restoration on yours.
Excellent video. I appreciate that you cut to the chase instead of belaboring every detail. I have a Diamondback Ascent all chrome that I bought for $7.50 at a thrift shop. Needed tires, seat, and maintenance. It's my everyday ride on the dirt/gravel roads in my rural location. Amazing job with the paint, turned out great. I also like that you include in your videos the little mistake such as clamping into the stand before the paint cured. Helps me and others avoid doing the same thing. Keep up the good work! Cheers.
WSM Volunteers thanks my dude, appreciate it that! That’s awesome those chrome ones are sick. Yeah I’m still learning too so just want to show ppl when I mess up so hopefully it helps people too!! Working on some more vids soon! Cheers 🤗🤗
Thank you! My grease tube is still missing a cap 🤔. Wow steel s-works, haven’t seen many of those around. Yep you should go for it, would love to see how it turns out !
@@garysprojects Look out for the restoration vid! I know, it's pretty rare - I've had the M4, M5 and carbon but never seen a steel S-Works until now! A smattering of 1st gen XTR and titanium bits, should be interesting...
The Ascent is a total sleeper. the later models were exactly the same frame and the APEX and the AXIS which were >$1000 bikes. Bombproof bikes and so easy to swap groups compos over.
Hell yeah I agree, I think the top end models have OX tubing vs AVR though, but yeah their bikes were made well with nicely spec’d out components!! 😊😊😊
Looks killer now. I'm in the process of painting 16 inch BMX for my son. I sandblasted the frame, forks and bars, then primed and painted the steel parts satin black. The alloy frame needs a bit more prep though.
Awesome, I have a Giant steel frame bike that I thought about selling. It's 27 yo , was my dads first mtb. I acquired it some years ago agree my dad painted hand painted it w a brush and tagged it with a bunch of stickers. I converted it to a single speed. I thought about selling it until I saw this video !!!
@@garysprojects Iguana! Was blue frame w pink in the sticker trim. That jar of bolts in vinegar might be the end for me, let alone setting up those cantilever brakes. Haha😦 when deciding to tackle this project or not, I will be sure to rewatch this thorough video. For your cool and calm perspective towards the rebuild to match my efforts. Cheers
Stephen Turner thank you 🙏. those bikes are cool! The bolts aren’t too bad, you just have to remember where they go. And for the cantilever brakes I just watched the Park tools tutorial haha, wasn’t too bad. Would like to see it if you end up doing it. Good luck!
Thanks my dude! I’ll will try to make a ride video - gotta figure out the best way to film it. I also have a Marin that I’m currently working on, hopefully the video will be up soon :) cheers
Very good Gary, just found your channel and subscribed. Pity about the chain stays after all that painting. I would of put some electrical tape in the short term. Do you keep or sell the bikes?
Thanks my dude! Appreciate it. Yeah electric tape is a good fix, I forgot about the chain protector before I road down the stairs haha and then it was too late so I have just left it for now. Maybe I will respray it in the future. I usually keep the bikes that are my size or until I have too many! 😂😂😂
