This is a time laps restoring my 18 year old HPI Racing RS4 RTR EVO Vintage Nitro RC. In this video we fully strip down the car chassis. We then give everything a good clean replacing any worn parts before rebuilding. Stay tuned till the end for a first start in 15 years!

@@conceptBuilds did you do maintenance check up with the restore, like shock oil, dog bone pins, gear boxes, clutch, etc?

Makes me feel sooooooo old that this is considered retro haha 🤣 I've been completely stripping and rebuilding my CEN CTR4 every year for 20 years now.

I’d love to do this to mine! But the previous owner must have used some super strong thread lock in the screws holding the engine in.. Can’t get the screws to budge for anything. Tried heating them up and they’re starting to round off!

Oh no that sucks! I can only suggest drilling them out and replacing them, thats the down side to applying to much thread lock.

When the screws are stuck and heat doesn’t work you need to shock the screw to break the bond. This is common in old metal to metal bonds. To do this insert and old Allen key like the ones that come for free with cars or screws. Then hit it with a hammer. Now the screw will be much looser. Insert your quality hex driver add heat with a candle and it will undo very easy. If you are using Philips screws use the same principal. Goodluck

Dug mine out during first lockdown and got it running for it to blow up , it's now brushless and a much improved car. I put in it 10bl120 3650 4500 kv. A zd racing motor mount and zd racing center drive shaft using the rear diff input shaft from a HSP for rear mounted spur set up. I do miss the sound of nitro but there's no more getting covered in nitro no tuning no messing around. I've got a kyosho superten fwo4 too that I'm debating on converting but I feel that's kinda sacrilege. There's a few shorts on my channel check it out.

It is amazing how brushless can transform a car, and true nitro is fun but can be pain to say the less sometimes! Hahaha agree with you there defiantly stay nitro with the kyosho, Awesome I'll be sure to check them out!

How do u find out what kind of engine u have I have the purple one with the 4 side trimed out I would like to find a new engine to run

Hi, The one you have doesn't sound familiar, have a look on the casting it should say a brand but also try googling your cars make and model to see what to was supplied with, hope this helps.

Dam i still have mine mine came with the 15fe purple motor in it and it came with a one speed was there two versions of this car? Cause mine looks just like yours but the motor is different and it came with the one speed brandnew from the hobby shop like 15 years ago

Hi, Yeah I believe the one you have is an older version on the car. I think there was a few iterations based on the same chassis going back years.

There were two versions of this car. The drift versions had the engine in the middle and a single gear transmission. The non drift versions had the second speed in the transmission.

There was the RS4 3 (With the purple 15fe engine) and the RS4 3 Evo (with this silver T15 engine). Basically identical except for the engine & optional 2 speed system. The T15 engine drops right in as the mountings are exactly the same. Easier to use as it has a low speed needle whereas the FE only had a high speed needle. There's also versions with the 18SS and T3.0 engines.
