A friend had asked for help installing a new bathroom fan, this is the old fan, a double heat lamp unit with exhaust fan. It was working when it was removed, however, it was in pretty bad shape, the center cooling fan was squealing and the exhaust fan was caked in dust and starting to rattle. The housing is rusted to shit. I fucked up the housing a bit removing it, the mounting ears sheared but I have a way to fix that. The cover had been painted white and was beginning to yellow, but underneath the original anodized aluminum finish was still in good condition. I’ve repaired both motors and now they are in great working order. I believe this is a later model fan since the older fans had steel blower wheels and this has an aluminum blower wheel. I am unsure of the manufacture date but I suspect it is late 70s early 80s. This fan will likely end up going to another house and I will be installing a newer more powerful motor with thermal protection, hopefully boosting the fan to 70 cfm at 3.5 sones. I will keep the old motor since it still works fine. The original center screw is missing but may turn up, it would have had “NuTone” embossed on it. The bulbs used are vintage heat bulbs. Side note: after running this unit with both heat bulbs for a couple hours, the outer housing only got warm to the touch, the way this unit is designed, the center fan shroud divides the housing into 2 compartments, cooling air enters through one bulb, exits out the other. Modern units have a fan but it’s mounted to the top and appears to only circulate air inside the unit. Broan/NuTone even state that the exhaust fan may kick on when the unit gets hot, also the fans and cover are plastic. This 9425 fan is a far superior design. @BroanNuToneLLC Hope you’re taking notes! The center fan shroud would be a great thing to implement on current models!
