Check out my Free Illustration Mini Workshop where I share my journey from Amateur to Pro: www.thedrawingcodex.com/illus...
You will get some simple advice on how to get more detail and polish in your work. How to think about composition. And my thoughts on how to prepare for professional work.
These are some thoughts on the late Noriyoshi Ohrai and his book Green Universe! His Amazing work can teach us a lot about creating strong imagery. There are so many things he does well. His unique mix of more form based western rendering with a Japanese aesthetic is something you don't see a lot of, even today.
Happy Drawing!

Noriyoshi is responsible for one of the best designs for Mecha Godzilla, one that only featured in the posters and never the movies. That version was comprised of 3 combining machines and was incredibly imposing. The art of movie posters is a little lost these days, or at least the way they made them back then is lost. Noriyoshi’s work was some of the best, you can see his inspiration ripple throughout the industry. I love the work of current movie poster artists that harken back to this style, like Christopher Shy.

I *LOVE* your book reviews and how you explain the underlying "machinery" behind whats going on in a painting/drawing. Thank you so much for your thoughtful insights and all the work you put into this channel! Sara from California

My list of favorite artists is super long, so it might not mean much, but Noriyoshi Ohrai is definitely in there! While Drew Struzan isn't. Unfortunately there's not enough high quality pictures of Noriyoshi Ohrai's art, online ☹

Thank for posting this book review! It's hard to find out more about Ohrai, since most info online is in japanese.
