And Connors did continue playing well through Wimbledon that year, beating McEnroe again in the finals in a 5-set grinder. Jimmy went on that year to win both Wimbledon and the US Open and regain the world #1 ranking.

The improved service motion from Connors won him this tournament and the Wimbledon Championship as well. It was risky. More double faults, and less reliance statistically on his strength, the baseline game! But it worked.

Great quality indeed also interesting to see Mac returning further back and being rather passive on Jimmy’s serve compared to the his best in 1984
