This vintage SHARP DX-150E CD player, (circa 1988) came to me with the fault - not playing discs. It turned out to have two - relatively common - faults. Luckily I was able to fix both of them, enjoy.

I believe those SMD components are known as MELF packages. Best of both worlds, being surface mount rather than through hole but still retaining colour band markings that are burned into the non-volatile memory of all engineers of a certain age and above.

Thanks Mike, I’ve never heard of that package type.

I had a Sharp Optonica RT3838 tape deck, to this day i haven't heard any other deck that sounds as good, it was only a 2head machine but damn the sound quality was unbeatable, it had that real analog sound and dolby B on it was just perfect it even beats my nakamichi

I remember the Optonica range, they were very good.

Great to see you got it going keeps it out of ewaste ,my first cd player I bought was the cheap proline branded thing I think it was a comet store brand top of case was covered chip board and I had it connected at the time tho the second hand sanyo music center my dad gave me , in the end the sanyo music center only had 1 channel out of 4 speaker outputs and it was before eBay when it failed and it went to the tip a sad day as I loved it.

Ah, Proline - another cheap Chinese unit, made to sound good but definitely wasn't. Just as bad as Curry's "Matsui" brand.

Thanks for another fun filled video and a good fix! How that turntable got pushed down so far is another question for later!
@ChasLarge
@ChasLarge 7 месяцев назад
I mentioned that in the video, the clamp continually pressing down and the turntable being just push fit in the spindle means eventually it gives and drops. I've seen that lots of times on many makes of CD player.

Thanks a lot sir for your share. Which kind of oil do you use for the motors?
@ChasLarge
@ChasLarge 7 месяцев назад
3 in 1 penetration oil as mentioned in the video.

Did you also oil the other end (brush end) of that motor?
@ChasLarge
@ChasLarge 7 месяцев назад
No, the other end is encapsulated in plastic and it would have meant totally dismantling the motor, I did not feel it was necessary in this instance.

@@ChasLarge Oh, ok. I agree with your assessment. Bending those little tabs is a PITA.
