Beautiful pen! My husband and I were at the Ark pen show on Friday. Danny repaired a Sheaffer for me and he's still working on a (stubborn) Parker Vacumatic. I purchased a Parker 51 from Perry. He kindly helped me find a medium nib amongst the 51s. I don't have a lot of vintage pens (6) but they sure are a lot of fun. I know you will enjoy your new purchase.

No, my husband didn't do the devotional although he does pastor part-time. We drove up from Louisiana on Friday only. As for the medium nib on the Parker 51...Perry found it. Just looking at the nibs...well, they all looked alike to me. Did you go all three days? @@KitchenCounterCrafts
@@dawnholder8819 hahaha! That cracked me up because all the nibs look the same! Yes, we went all 3 days and 3 in Dallas last year as well! It’s great to just talk pens with all the vendors. I didn’t even make it to one class in Dallas, but went to the urban sketching and the pen hacks in Arkansas
Delighted to see you get this timeless vintage beauty. The carmine red is uniquely lovely. I have a rare ‘oversized’ carmine red Sheaffer Balance. I waited for years to find the carmine in the oversized pen that I wanted most. There’s also an attractive lever-filling marine green Balance that is a sibling to your own pen. I own one. 🙂 Now, I have a very similar (same size but wider cap ring situated a little higher up from the edge of the cap lip), non-white dot Sheaffer Balance 500 in the striated amber brown color. But my pen is a vac-filling Sheaffer. I really love the Vac-filling Sheaffers and prefer them to the lever-filling system. The nib on your pen is supposed to be the smaller #5 Sheaffer 14k Feathertouch nibs. They are known to be stiff but smooth writers. So, interesting to hear and see that you nib is softer than expected. I’d advise to never post these vintage Sheaffer pens. It really is not recommended. Take good care of it, and yourself, Mona. Edit: vintage Waterman pens are also very dear to me and something I’d readily recommend to you.
Oh wow! This post made me smile! How wonderful that you have the oversized Balance in this gorgeous color! Isn’t it a joy to use and look at? I’m doing a review on my amber colored Balance next- it has that Triumph nib that I lllooovvveee!!! It’s a vacfil and I haven’t used it yet- so please stay tuned! Interesting about that nib, right? It has a lot of give- as soon as I wrote with it at the show, it was mine!😍 The great thing is that I thought vintage would be more expensive (yes, I know that some are), but for the gold nib and workmanship, it’s worth it in my book! I’ve been using this pen since last night and am taking it with me to put it through its paces! Thanks for letting me know about NOT posting the cap! @@KitchenCounterCrafts Yea, I still love all my vintage Sheaffers. And the oversized Balance is just right up my alley. It remains an American icon, in the truest sense of the word. The only thing I kind of regret is that a broad nib on a vintage Sheaffer (esp. a Balance) is a rarity. Luckily, I have found and bought a few. The gold nibs, whether the predominantly Lifetime, or the Feathertouch or any other came mostly in Fine, and the rest in Medium and XF. Stubs are also pretty rare. I have just the one. Vac-filling Sheaffer’s are really sexy and fun to use. One of my quartet is always inked and used frequently. Alas, when broken, they are also the most tricky and hardest to repair. Not many repairmen of vintage Sheaffers know how to do the job, or do it adeptly. It’s apparently a bit of a specialized skill. Anyway, not to worry. If looked after well and used properly, the Vacs are not known to be too fragile or easily prone to fail. None of my four vac-fill Sheaffer’s have required any repairs yet. So far, so good! 🙂 So yea, I’ll keenly await your upcoming reviews - especially the vac-filling Sheaffer you own. You’re a big girl, your tastes have evolved right before my eyes. 😋 edit: if you don’t mind telling, curious to know what you paid for your carmine Balance or the Vac-fill one. At any rate, these pens are so worth the money you spend on them and the experience of owning and using them.
I have a Green Striated Sheaffer Balance Junior with chrome trim. I need to get a sac put on it, but otherwise it is in great shape. I also have the longer slim Sheaffer Green Striated Balance with a wider chrome band, but the feed is broken and needs to go in for repairs. BTW, I love how you wrote your f’s and l’s! Beautifully written!
Seriously!!! 😂 My friends have these manicured nails and mine have ink colors all over them (almost every day because I’m a mess!)!!! I’m so excited for you to try out some of these vintage pens!!! Just you wait!!!!😍
