Vintage Thursday. Massey Ferguson 178 removing compaction. 

Still enjoying my morning cuppa out of the 178 mug!!!

Thanks Dan very good video, it's amazing to think that a Massey 178 would have been considered a big tractor back in the day. I remember daydreaming whilst driving one with a rotaspreader on the back and driving it into a tree and damaging the bonnet because I pressed the clutch which turned out to be the raised foot rest because I had been driving other makes before. 😂 The boss got her fixed up on the insurance and it came back as twice the tractor.

Nice to see her get a workout Dan. What way do you manage the beet fields, do you rotate between the same two fields back and forth every other year?

Mole ploughing is a serious job. Great for relieving compaction. I will be doing some pasture later in the summer

Hi Dan when I used to mole plough in the 80's we used to back into the ditch so the water could get away if you don't it is just subsoiling 🤔👍

Interesting stuff young man. What distance were you between each pass? Good to see the 178 working on a nice sunny day. It has been bitter cold up here this last six days and today a touch warmer on the temperature but very cold and raining. Not good for cabless tractor driving!

A decent workout does the engine good, where my dad worked they had a 168 which went everywhere in top gear, never got worked and consequently was always gruff and smoky. Said tractor is now at Four Winds Farm, small world! Great video Dan .

Great to see the return of vintage Thursday. The 178 must be a fairly rare model. I've never seen one in real life.
