Smurfs at National - heck this must have been in 1978... maybe 79. The Smurf Song was in the UK charts in the summer of 78. Father Abraham. Ha. I wanted the stickers that National would give when you purchased petrol, but my dad always refueled at Asda.
Thanks for these old clips, bringing us back to a time when adverts were a joy to watch and had a catchy little tune or quote we can all remember still whistle to this day. 😊 I remember my uncle buying a new VW Passat around 83-84 in that shape too, they were a lovely car back then. He really liked it & called it "Der Panzer" to my aunts disgust lol Thanks again Steve for taking us back to a time that seems like a distant dream world away from the turmoil's of the world today and tripe they have for adverts on TV now . Top Man 👍
The Citroen BX loves driving, hates garages, said the late John Thaw, even Geoffrey Palmer did the voice for the one for the Mitsubishi Charisma as well as for Audi. Vauxhall used After You've Gone by Al Jolson as the soundtrack for their advert for the Mark III Cavalier.
Not surprised, tbh. Everything's getting inordinately expensive over here. Not a great country to be operating any kind of manufacturing business from.
@@RetroSteveUK they were both branches of General Motors; Opel was the German branch, Vauxhall was the UK branch. Their product ranges became more and more similar until they were selling essentially the same products, so Opel concentrated on the continental European market and left the UK to Vauxhall
Blimey! I absolutely loved my old Omega. A car full of top spec stuff with a low spec Vauxhall badge lol. I found the rear wheel drive extra fun in the ice too... I miss that motor. 😔
I remember those Passat's from the 90's. My Uncle Derek had them for years, latterly the Estates ( as did a best pals mum) which now are like one of the few medium saloon cars manufactured in the UK.
11:16 - another familiar face - I'd have to so some searching to find the name though. Car commercials are generally very well done (unlike lager commercials). Mazda 323 ad voiced by Chris Tarrant. Final ad - Unipart - voiced by Richard Briers.
So in the 70's & 80's in the UK you could go into a GM Opel Vauxhall dealer & order either an Opel or a Vauxhall even though they were the same car - is that correct? 🤔
