True... because all of these commercials were aired during the 80s or 90s. I mean... Nintendo were making handhelds and consoles during this time and they were best sellers past all the others.. Like the Gameboy, SNES, NES, Game and Watch, and the Virtual Boy... In which was Nintendo's Worst Seller.
@@fligigigigigig222 Pretty sure a lot of these pre-date Nintendo... this is stuff from the 1970s and early 1980s, like the Odyssey, Intellivision, Atari and Vectrex. Only really old guys like me remember those coming out.
@@Nightweaver1 Technically they don't predate Nintendo as that company formed in the 1880s as a playing card company. Nintendo also made home video games in the 70s with the Color TV Games pong consoles but those were Japanese only. Though I guess you could say more accurately that these predated Nintendo's global presence in gaming.
This is such a great flashback video for me. In particular the "Under 50 buck's, 50 bucks?! It's the 2600 from Atari" that song has never left my head since my early teens in the 1980's. I held on to my fifty $ plus another 40 bucks to get my NES by late 1987 instead. Great video flashback. Thank you.
I still have my vectrex in working order...I just played it yesterday and my kids were telling me how old I was...told em to stfu and "get out of my room I'm playing solar quest"
In a single lifetime we’ve gone from needing to put an overlay on your tv and moving a light dot around the screen to games like Ghost of Tsushima and and Red Dead Redemption 2.
I'm thinking, if they got so excited with those consoles, imagine what would happen if someone somehow traveled back in time and showed them the PS4, the Wii, or the Xbox, they would go absolutely insane XD
+Genesis Calderón (ZimVader0017) Well that is till they find out about the horrors of DLC, micro transactions, and OH MY GOD PLAYSTATION NETWORK IS DOWN!!! lol. However they might find the controllers more comfortable though. Not to mention ports of arcade games being exactly like their arcade counterparts. Zaxxon on the PS3 or Pole Position on the PS2. Show them good PS3 titles like Motorstorm, Dead Rising 2, Burnout Paradise, Fallout New Vegas, Dark Souls, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Minecraft, and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (1980's people accustomed to the Atari 2600, Celecovision, and Intellivision would be blown away by Sega Genesis games).
You culd have added the fairchild channel f on that list. It was the first in the second generation and also the first to use cartriges, it competed with the arari 2600 but ultimatly lost. Fairchild channel f ''tHe oNe wItH AlL tHe fUn''
In the 90s I asked for a nintendo... My mom asked do I want a nintendo or Atari? Confused I said it did not matter, I want to play video games. Looking back I know getting my uncle's Atari saved my single mom alot of money and stress..but man I wish I'd gotten a Nintendo..lol
I didn't need video game consoles in the 80s. I was an arcade manager. I used to invite my friends to the store after closing time and let them play whatever they wanted for free. Our store was pretty big. We had about 75 pinball machines and 100 video games. Our most successful games were Asteroids, Galaxian, Pac Man and Missle Command. Our least successful game was 3D Tank. It was too complicated for the average kid. My favorite was Missle Command. Back in 2003 I downloaded the original arcade Missle Command rom to play on my computer. I was all excited. I had MAME which was an arcade emulator. I turned it on and indicated "Missle Command." and I forgot something. Can you guess? As soon I turned it on I got the message: "Insert Quarter." 😆
Running an arcade with all the best games, that you could play endlessly for free once you're off-the-clock, would probably be the dream job of many children in the 80s.
My first console was the Odyssey 2... Sadly I was born in '89 hahaha! I felt like the most badass in the world when I got mine, than realized with tragedy at the Super NES and other consoles my friends owned... I learned alot with that experience, first and foremost that not everything purchased at an antique auction and called vintage meant (technology wise) you got your money worth *sigh*. For some reason that was the first attempt at a easter with a present, it didn't become a tradition. =)
My first console was the Super Nintendo but I used to play on my grandma's Atari 2600 a lot whenever I went to her house as a kid. Shortly after, I was introduced to the arcade originals half the games were based on and could play them on the pc!
@koolkid15 Son, with 29 years of TSB experience I will absolutely WRECK you with my RAIDERS! Anytime, anyplace. What team will you try to go at me with?
Never really saw the American versions of any computer adverts/commercials. Interesting to hear the hyperbole. UK adverts were definitely more ‘tech’ focused.
I've read that the original Odyssey's sales were somewhat hampered by the belief that it would only work with Magnavox TVs. Anyone from those days willing to confirm or refute that story?
Yep, yes.i saved all my money in 6th grade to buy Atari 2600 with an Activision Laser Attack cartridge. I joined Activision Club in 1979 because I had the highest score in the country. I had to screenshot my score with my archaic Kodak 110 camera and mail it to them!
