This 1935 English film records the high style of the fast-paced silly farces that once entertained audiences in the West End in the years between the wars. Seymour Hicks, a famous actor-manager, is perfect as the befuddled husband caught in his outrageous lines. His wife is played not by an English actress but by the charming American Claire Luce who first danced “Night and Day” with Fred Astaire on stage but not in the movies. Grandma is the formidable Eva Moore who was in life Laurence Olivier’s first mother-in-law.

Thank you for this great movie download! The members of the Popinot family of French champagne tycoons suspect that the widowed head of the family Charles Popinot is keeping a mistress in Rome and generally living a wild life. Unbeknownst to them he has happily re-married and had a son with a much younger woman. She believes he is twenty years younger than he really is and is shocked when his relatives including his mother, grown-up sons and granddaughter arrive in Italy.

I came here for Seymore Hicks and the director Henry Edwards. I am a fan of both. Edwards' Scrooge (1935) is one of my all time favourite films. I watch it every year at Christmas. Hicks does some great improvised bis in Vintage Wine. His decades worth of acting shines through his performance. I love this era. I wish I had lived through it. This film was made 40 years before I was even a twinkle in my father's eye. I often think I was born in the wrong century.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Leave it to the Brits with their cutting humor to create such a fine piece of entertainment. Pay attention to the little "side remarks" as they make the movie.

Mrs. Browning, a fifth grade school teacher of mine said to her class, over and over again, "What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive...😮." (Interesting early sound films, speaking formal "literary" English to persons not properly introduced. In real life, from what I vaguely remember and learn, the horrible wars generally broke that protocol of "etiquette.") Just context, I am 82.

This is marvelous. Thank you for uploading a number of these (misnamed) quota quickies -- they're far better than their reputation; unfortunately in the U.S., there's not much way for us to see them. Thanks again.

You may remember "Charles Popinot" as Seymour 'bad hair' Hicks from 1935's 'Scrooge'.

Cute and funny movie. Very entertaining. Really made me chuckle . I'm amazed that a film that was made nearly ninety years ago could be so clever and engaging. It just goes to show that humans have not really changed all that much in nearly 90 years. We think we have, we think we have evolved so far forward, but we are just human beings experiencing The Human Condition. Love this movie so much, that I think I have to watch it again

Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!!!!!

King James became a "king" at age four. He didn't like the bible and ordered all destroyed He re-wtote it to satisfy his egotistical self. He announced :. "God and I are equals. We can each cause instant death to any mortal'. He punished, imprisoned, killed any person who possessed the Old Testament or previous New Testament. He was a sick monster
