Back around 1990, I bought 36 cases of records from a guy for $800. Come to find out, his father was an executive for Columbia records. Every time they pressed a record, he got a copy. About 95% of these were either test pressings, or white label promos. Think, Miles Davis, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, Santana etc... Also Bruce Springsteen. I got a mint copy of that hand drawn Born to Run album. I sold it for $1500 at a record show back then. I still have about 90% of that collection in my stash.

In 1980 I had bought a big stack of albums from my oldest bro, which I no longer have bc my abusive ex had thrown them all out in a huge deep ditch that floods yearly. It was such a great loss to me, my bro had died a month later n I had cherished his albums. They had consisted of a variety of classic rock, disco, etc. I also had a variety of vinyl record albums n 45's from the 60's n 70's. My favorites were CCR, they had belonged to an uncle who had also passed away when I was 7 yrs old in 69, I had found them in 74. But two of my aunts had burned them all. Music was a huge part of my life, more healing. Losing all of the albums was such a great loss to me. So if y'all have record albums, cherish them, they're valuable in various ways.

@@Plarocks Thnx n yes I did, only I had to lie in order to get away. In 80 he had moved me n my unborn baby boy to his Rez, (we're Native Amer), within a month the A-hole had cheated, he was drunk, came home, brought it with em, they'd been laying together n had dirt n weeds on themselves n when I questioned em he had beaten the crud outa me. Unfortunately, it was the start of me being violently abused for 4 yrs. He had threatened me saying that if I had left em, he'd break my bones n mess my face up so nobody wud want me n I believed em, which is why I had lied saying that I'd be visiting my family n wud return to em, I didn't, thank God. I came close to being killed several times. The worst was having my jaws broken, eyes sealed shut, had a concussion n cracked ribs. Unfortunately, I had never put his ass in jail for fear I'd pay for it even worse. I was beaten 1-2 times a month during those 4 yrs. My 4 late bros n I had gone thru various abuses as children. Our mom was murdered when we were 4-8 yrs old n lived with other family afterwards, which is why I ended up being in abusive relationships. I've been single for 16 yrs, gave myself time to heal, I'm good now. I kept the truth from my family until a yr after returning back home, I tld one of my older bros n had to talk him out of traveling to AZ to get em, we live in NV/ID, I had never seen him that mad, angry. A part of me wanted him to pay em back but he wasn't worth my bro getting in trouble. After I had left was when he tossed my belongings in that ditch. There were two letters from our mom asking our dad's family how we were doing, they were also a great loss to me. Hope u dnt mind my long comment. God bless*

There are about a dozen versions of those Australian AC/DC pressings. Depends on which one you have that has the most worth - like the blue labels with the yellow kangaroo on its label. Secondary, you have the condition both the cover and especially the condition the vinyl is in that sets its price. No one wants a worn out G+ vinyl.

I have plastic sleeves on them the covers are clean. That was when I was in my 20’s now I’m in my 70’s how time flies by. I have more albums from the 70’s I look at them and wonder what in the world am I going to do with them. I moved from here to Denver in the 80’s around the time the new wave music came around so I bought albums in Denver also.

This was well done. There are more of course (Simon & Garfunkel, Mamas & Papas) but a great overview. Can't decide whether this will help reduce the amount of sellers coming in with Moody Blue blue vinyl thinking they have a fortune coming, or that it may actually increase those kinds of sellers coming in. Wasn't aware of Wake Of The Flood but this kind of thing fascinates me. We've had lots of Synchronicity collectors coming in asking to see our Police dupes. The one we always get here is Dylan's greatest hits with the psych poster. There was some Time article years ago that apparently everyone read stating those copies are worth hundreds or more. Still get that all the time. In any case nice work!

Great. Very informative ... and I've been collecting records for 55 years but - back in the mid-60s - I remember getting rid of a first press Velvet Underground because some of the songs were too loud and raucous ie 'Heroin' ... later passing up on a box of 20 + Odyssey & Oracle albums (in Woolworth's) at 50p (50c?) each, and a box of 30 Pretty Things ' Midnight to Six Man' eps, (20c ea) because I only needed one of each - right. I’m a really big fan of the Velvet Underground, and I was lucky enough see them in concert in their 1993 reunion tour in London at Wembley arena, I’m only 61 so, I am to young to remember them in their day but over the years I’ve collected quite a few of their albums on vinyl, I know they only made 4 albums but I have many compilation albums but, I would love to get hold of the first album that you are talking about that’s for sure, with its original cover with the zip on the cover but I bet there isn’t many of them around now but they didn’t make very many of the zip cover anyway but, I would imagine that they are worth quite a bit of money now.

Then I looked at the record and it was a test pressing “WOW” He finally sold it to Amoeba Records, Hollywood for $3500. This was about 20yrs ago whenever we get together we talk about that day…! Hey there, Dylan ( spelling) I'm a subscriber and a long time collector. I won't claim to have any " holy grail" Big bux records in my collection, I bought my first album " Best of Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs in early '66, I was ten years old. I pretty much stopped when CDs replaced vinyl in the mid- late 80s. I have a few personal faves like the Fugs first 3 albums on ESP, a couple more on Reprise, a beat copy of Nazz II in red vinyl, a Hampton Grease Band 2lp played only once, and the Elvis box set, silver 25th anniversary, low numbers, a Moby Grape " Live Grape" in a purple- white swirl, etc. Got the first Seeds LP, the first 2-3 Electric Prunes LPs- I'm a big psychedelic/ Garage rock fan, Dead fan, probably an average collector with about 3,000 records, perhaps more. So, as I said, I don't believe I have much in the way of " Big money" collectible stuff, just some cool oddball. I just wanted to let you know I appreciate your vids, I'm a subscriber and good luck to you movin' forward.

Back in the early 80's, my brother was a manager at Record Bar. He had several crates of "cut-outs" and was often, also, given promotional concert tickets, back stage passes and several times had various groups stop by the store to make public appearances. With all the interaction with these (mostly) rock groups, he would get the band members to autograph the many albums he had collected. It was a really cool collection until his house caught fire and burned to the ground. He and his family were not hurt but all their possessions - including the awesome record collection - was lost.

I imagine the old mono albums from the Beatles will increase in value being the engineers being interviewed which are now all over You Tube swear by them as the best sounding because they were mixed to sound the best tonally in mono and are the ones they put the most work into to get the sound they all wanted. They said they hate all the remixes. So regardless of what sounds best to our ears does not mean it is worth more.

Geoff Emerick (RIP) abhorred the Sgt. Pepper reissues. There's a lack of musical literacy in the last 20 years. Case in point: The George Harrison All Things Must Pass anniversary. No understanding of what a mix is meant to do, they just put George's voice like frosting on a cake. Sounds like garbage.

Great video! Regarding the Led Zeppelin II vinyl, it’s ludicrous to think someone could work at a record label and be so thick as to make a call like that (it being played on a kids record player) and then having it remixed. An example of too much power that shouldn’t have been granted.
@rabarebra
@rabarebra 5 месяцев назад
wasn't remixed, but lowered in sound volume. It was common back then, if it didn't work on all turntables, they fixed it. If the grooves are too big (too large waveforms), there will be large low frequency (bass) curves that made the needle jump out of the grooves. Equipment got better, so nobody cared later on about those cheap turntables.

Interesting video, though I have non of the shown records. I got some a little more valuable first british pressings of certain King Crimson-albums, which might already be my most valuable records. The most "lucky" pieces in my collection are Guns'n'Roses "Spaghetti Incident", original european pressing from it's release, which I bought arround 1998 when a music store in my area sold all it's vinyl on a discount to get rid of it. As I hardly ever played it, I'm sure it's NM, as it was stored well all those years. Was laughing out loud learning that it was worth 80 Euros and more, when I got back into vinyl 2 years ago. Wasn't able to get rid of it, when I tried to sell my old small collection back in the day. The other one is an israelian pressing of Led Zeppelins "IV", which I recently bought on a flea market in Berlin for 3,50 Euros. It is at least in VG+-condition, after a good spin-clean it played flawlessly just a few hairlines from the paper sleeve (now it rests in a antistatic one). Hardly could believe, that made arround 100 Euros on discogs. Nothing worth a fortune, but it shows, that there still can be some lucky finds and unknown treasures arround.

Most don't know about the Greg Calbi mastered and cut Zeppelin II that he did in 1974 or so. He is a recording engineer that took the RL notes apparently and reissued as close a version of what Robert Ludwig did originally for this record. Look for GC in the deadwax- sounds really good and in my opinion, the next best issue of Zeppelin II

Dillon, I have a question. I got a name brand record player that will record onto a cd, which I haven't used for that purpose. The thing is, it includes a 78 speed setting, and I got some 78 records from a relatives attic. I cleaned them up as best I could, but some did have lots of dust, and even a dirt dobber nest, which I cleaned as best as I could. These are records from the 30's with big names, but I think I did a really dumb thing by playing one. I only played it for about 30 seconds before I realized it could possibly damage the needle, and then mess up some of my treasured a Records. I was always careful to hold them by the edges, and not only dust wipe the record before playing, but use a bit of dust off on the needle as well. This is the best way to get rid of even subtle pops, short of having your own clean room to listen in. (Used for making hard drives) haha... Anyway, do you recommend changing the needle before playing a modern vinyl record, or is just giving the needle a good cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol enough??? I love old records. I passed up a bootleg zeppelin album at a yard sale in Fayetteville NC a few years back. Didn't have the space. One record I have that is a 38, might be worth something. It is the recording of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon and going out with his One step for Mankind speech. It is mint condition with a photo on both sides of the cover slip. The cover does have some very minor creases from holding. I just wonder if it is worth anything. I just discovered your channel tonight and it's awesome. Thanks for doing this.
