Viola is around my age. Our parents had messed up lives, issues, and trauma. People like our parents didn't reach for help. They took their pain on those around them. It is up to my generation and afterwards to break the chain and cycle of abuse.
@johnson2joy

Many people in this world are not even aware that they are allowed to heal from their pain, but have been watching and listening to the depth of the AA stories [since BLM] and the depth of their stories from enslavement up until the 1960s, it is a wonder they survived. It is a honour to listen to Viola speak and hear her "truth" grace, dignity and her "class" in the true meaning of the word. In England many people over use the word "class" to apply to people of certain wealth and education, but to me class means dignity, poise and grace and Viola has all those qualities in spades. Yes, we break the chain by honouring our humanity and to believe we deserve the love inside and outside of self and to share and communicate compassion and kindness that does not rely on the money system that is ruling and exploiting so many of the world's humanity! She is right, let us own our human experience! What a Beautiful Black Women and real SOUL SISTRER!

@helpfulbitsandentertainment
@helpfulbitsandentertainment 3 года назад
I wouldn't be able to do that, nor would I in fact strive to. My parents both died when I was young (less than 1 year old when my dad died, 13 when my step-dad died,, 19 when my mom died) but they beat me, starved me, sexually abused me, isolated me, forced me to live in unsanitary conditions (example: a condemned house that had a heater full of urine and a bathtub completely filled with feces when we moved in), stole from me, forced me to work (illegally) by age 5, got me hooked on substances as a child (and not just by leaving them around)... I don't believe Jesus would expect you to care for those who did all that to you. It is true we are to honor our parents, but to put up with that abusers in that guise is just abusing that passage. Part of honoring your parents is recognizing who they are and who they are in these cases is someone you don't need to have around if you care about the wellbeing of your own spouse and children if you have them (Genesis does state that a man will LEAVE his father and mother to stick to his wife so those responsibilities come first). I would recommend no contact, personally, for abusive parents. You don't have to disrespect them, but they do not deserve your care. Yes, there are passages that talk about caring for your own (which your abusers are NOT, because they have made themselves your ENEMY by their own choices), but there are also passages that will tell you to disassociate from the reprobate ones (which abusers ARE). There are passages that speak of being kind even to your enemies. If that is your desire, be kind: help them get hooked up with services that can help them and call it a day.

@@annt.7785 So you're jealous of a child that was abused by people that had money? Michael's father would tell him he was ugly and call Janet fat while encouraging her brother's to do it. His form of bonding was working him day and night like a little man. It almost sounds like you think he deserved psychological and physical trauma to be inflicted on him. They also got beatings if they didn't perform well. Other than that he completely ignored them. You know d@mn well that abuse made him loony and his self-esteem was so shot he didn't even have the confidence to stand up for himself having a soft voice didn't help either.

As she missed most of the school year the school principal told her she it is best that she focuses on her health and she repeat the school yr the following as there is no way she will pass doing it all online from home. My daughters reply " Yes I can! Because my mum says I can do anything I put my mind to" She not only passed the school year, she was at the top of all her classes. Annalise Keating is a role she was born to play. I always end up coming to tv shows fairly late. The reason i have watched it so many times is because of the character arcs, and the concepts of overcoming struggles whatever they may be. I wonder if some of Annalises, Michaela and Bonnie's characters were written after watching some of these vulnerable times. A little like her closing argument in HTGAWM. Human with flaws.

You should not view yourself as invisible because you have importance and you had don't nothing wrong about that and I hope you found your path to be free and that you fulfilled your life to be at peace . I hope that you ceased your struggling past to be free and give forgiveness to yourself and that hopefully your father seeked forgiveness to you back then . I'm sorry about how your father treated you like that and if ever you have children , I hope you did not pass that trauma it to them and that you aspire them to fulfill their dreams.

I also often wondered where and what she tapped into to envoke such emotion. Now im clear! Hearing and seeing this video gives me as well as others im sure, perspective and the courage to own past traumas and walk into the present Owning the good and the not so Good. Ms. Davis beautiful from the shell to her core touched thousands sharing her story and her life's journey and for that we should be grateful and thankful to our sis.

I have low self esteem from my past. To be honest I'm working on me right now because I have depression. I lost everything even my children. I'm all alone I really have no family. I can relate to Viola's powerful, detailed testimony about childhood poverty. I clearly remember living through a childhood filled with poverty, misery, neglect and hunger... while being mocked by neighbors in a small town. Poor self-esteem is definitely the underlying cause of BAD relationships. Prayer, focus, and hard work are required to destroy wicked generational curses!!! It has taken YEARS for me. Thankfully, now life is MUCH better than my childhood/young adult years. PRAYER WORKS!!

I’ve loved her acting before and now I love her! Even my mother this past summer (after I told her our babysitter had us dumpster diving for food) said “I always thought that was for the chickens”....she still to this day won’t admit that we were so poor we were eating out of trash cans. That was a good day. Washing your only pair of jeans in the bathtub and hoping they dry by the next school day. When they don’t dry they start smelling and trust me that it’s not a good smell.

Brings back memories of my own childhood that I have not thought about for a long time. I grew up white but poor, downtown Detroit, in the 50's. Spending the night with a friend, a rat jumped on the bed and ran across us. It jumped back on the floor and I could hear it's claws scurrying across the linoleum. Kids would chase me down the street yelling, hey white girl, then pull my hair and slap me around. I didn't have much and somehow my toy got thrown out. I climbed into the garage container in the alley and I got maggots all over me. These are things I haven't thought about for a long while. I do love Viola and appreciate her acting that comes from a deep place within.
@nadiascroce1189
@nadiascroce1189 3 года назад
1:58 Viola said she was a bed-wetter until she was 14 and she was implying that this was because of the rats. According to Louise Hay's book Heal Your Body, bed-wetting means fear of a parent, usually the father. I also did this for a long time, as did most of my siblings, even though there were no rats in the house.
@michaelmaps2004

Maybe it can be due to different experiences. While to you it was because of fear of parents to her it may have been due to fear of poverty, rats, shame etc

I think your open talk just gave some relief to others about getting up,out, and seeing it can be where ones can look into. At times these things seem made up. Sometimes they don't. I know you hear me..is for the term that is from mean to nice. From hard to easy. Being a mother's daughter is not about disliking a mother. If you had bad, she had more if it. Not always,but much. What you do is bring forth how ugly and mean some became.
