Governor Fubara's directive to heads of administration in the 23 local government areas of the state to assume leadership of the council areas generated spontaneous reactions in most local government areas in Rivers State.
At the Secretariat of Port Harcourt City Council, there were sporadic gunshots, as the Police scared away scores of youths, who stormed the premises to protest.
The youths said they were at the secretariat for a peaceful demonstration against the immediate past council Chairmen, whom they claimed refused to vacate office after the expiration of their tenure.

I can see why so many people keep blaming the press. This studio needs the service of a sound lawyer. There is a high court judgment which says the lawmakers cannot amend the rivers state law to accommodate tenor elongation. The judgment is independent of the interlocutory order on the case on the status of the lawmakers. Some affected local government chairmen appealed the judgment at the appeal court and wanted an injunction to stay the execution of the high court judgment on tenor elongation, but the appeal court declined their appeal and advised both parties to maintain “status quo ante” which most people including the people in the studio interpreted as “status quo ante bellum”. People are looking up to you guys, please research more before feeding the public incorrect information

Jide's penchant for partisan analysis in favour of the APC is a known fact, which he demonstrated here once again when he failed to address the unconstitutionality of tenure elongation for Local Government Chairmen by the former leadership of the House of Assembly. Tenures of Executive Offices are constitutional and no legislative body can unilaterally tamper with such provisions the way Jide is trying to justify it.
