I agree, and would enthusiastically encourage Justin to see if the original copy of the footage he ghas could be processed using the latest software to increase the contrast & detail. It's pretty amazing what software can accomplish these days via re-sampling & deconvolution, and the quality of the raw data here would enable some impactful - perhaps dramatic - improvements to what Justin expertly captured!
Wow, absolutely incredible footage! This thing may not have caused any EF-5 damage, but looking at that incredible rotation, I'm certain winds were over 200 mph.
Same here. I have many nightmares of these, and i am 70, and live in a mobile home tornado magnet with no shelter. i pray a lot during watches. Nights are the worst, as twisters cant be seen unless when lightning flashes.
My son says that the tornado was given an EF5 rating twice. 200-205 mph. Hit Fairdale as EF3 strength and probably did one spot of EF4 damage in town. Clem Schultz looked out a window and a tornado was looking at him back like he was the tornado's target.
I still can't get over how the estimated max speed from the damage was set at 200mph. I mean, is 200 (highest end EF4) really that distinguishable from 201mph (EF5)?
I think its rather scary how FAST it is actually moving; in forward speed, and in its visible rotation. It looks like it is "growing" forward over simply moving forward. Really creepy
I lived near Rochelle back then and I saw definite f-5 damage north of Rochelle a couple miles in that area farms and homes and well built ones were cleanly swept away with extensive ground scouring it takes at least f-5 to do that even some concrete foundations were cracked and partially dislodged this is where it was at max strength with wind well over 200 mph perhaps 250-260 mph it was a beast look at the motion of this multi-vortex wedge I walked that area the next day and was astonished at the level of destruction it’s one thing to watch these videos but quite different when you are actually there that being said it should have gotten an f-5 rating just my take and by the way I’ve been an amateur storm chaser for 40 years and have never seen damage as bad as this twister did

@Dylan Johnson is Clem the gentleman who went upstairs to get batteries, his wife stayed downstairs and was killed? Her friend next door also lost her life. And his video of the tornado kept on going, recording the sound. Terrifying video. This was an ugly tornado. I first discovered these weather videos cause of this tornado and living in Northern Illinois.
I was near Monroe Center that day, at my late father's place. He wa sin wheelchair, and i couldnt get him to basement, but it got within 3 miles. i remember driving around to see damage, Unbelievable power, as old strong homes, gone, and nothing but concrete foundations. 2 women died in Fairdale , about 6 miles from where we were.
Just look at the motion at 1:12 sec and on and look at the wall cloud practically on the ground and multivortex structure also it’s spinning counterclockwise very rare
Me my son and daughters boyfriend chased this from about amboy when we first seen it to north along 52 then rt 30 till we ended up wherever it was but damage was bad. Started checking farms for victims and marking em off after primary search. This mostly was open open fields or would have been so much worse. Wont ever forget that day!!!
