This is definitely my favorite episode of the show. I know lot of people are gonna disagree with me but honeslty, that whole parasol scene is one of my favorite anime scenes ever.
All the episodes are impactful, but 3 really hit me harder than others, this episode was definitely was the 2nd, the other 2 we are yet to see from them, but yea, this show really punches you good
Qrow Branwen my boi Qrow exactly what I've been saying since its release, everyone rambles about 10 but I don't really see the appeal that everyone else speaks of. The parasol scene, my god that will be engrained in my memory for life it's so good and the emotion from this entire episode is perfection, simply recalling the moment from the fathers reaction to the parasol scene cripples me every time. Other than this episode I'd say 11 is also incredible, something about the winter like aspect of it just grabs me.
Violet is shown one more facet of love . . . the effect on others when a loved one dies. Then on the trip home she realizes that she has been the agent of many deaths, and she finally comes to know what Claudia meant when he said she was burning. That alone would be difficult to manage, but it's compounded by discovering that Gilbert is likely dead. Now she has to deal with guilt for taking so many lives, guilt for not being able to save Gilbert, guilt for surviving when he didn't. Ironically, this guilt is only made possible by Violet's new understanding of love. Surviving the war is not Violet's biggest challenge. Her biggest challenge is surviving love, because love makes us vulnerable in the most intimate ways. And yet . . . it's totally worth the risk. :)
There's something I only realized after rewatching the series for the third or fourth time. This might of been obvious to everyone else (it completely flew over my head before), but the quote Violet repeated at the very beginning from the play is the exact realization she had later towards the end of the episode. "I'll have to bear this cross for the rest of my life." Violet finally realized all the things she did and the people she killed is something she would have to live with as long as she lived. The weight of losing a loved one is a heavy one and one that hit Violet hard when she realizes what she's done
Same thing happened to me in the previous episode with the star gazing. Its pretty obvious that the boy spending the night star gazing with violet was beautiful once in a lifetime moment just like the comet. He was too scared to advance forward and Violet moved on never to return just like the comet. I didn't really make that connection until they made it obvious at the end for the slow morons like me. But at least he was inspired by violet to move forward and never miss another once in a lifetime moment like that.
Why do you think there is only 10 episodes of Violet Evergarden? I have watched the series, and it has 13 episodes in addition to an OVA (Original Video Animation), and a extra story full length film.If your only watching 10 episodes you will be missing some truly great episodes, possibly even my episode 10 (for which I would recommend investing in tissues, as in my opinion it is the saddest episode) and the final episode (13) which has (redacted due to spoilers)!
i just want to say... most people watched this ep, and they'll say.. the daughter died by the water...i mean..come on, she is not idiot, i am very sorry, but everytime i saw this kind of reactions, it's break whole mood :(
