I once lost this video from my saved YT links and I couldn't find it no matter what I tried as a search request last time. Finally I found it with a simple "Violin vibrato lesson" line - what could be easier! Thanks for the lesson Mam!
Stringplay hello, I've heard from some people that rolling the finger on the violin is not correct vibrato is that true? I've heard that you need to bend and flatten your finger for correct vibrato, however this rolling one is much easier.
I've been playing the violin for a decade or so now and despite a degree in music (classical guitar) vibrato on the violin has always been the proverbial albatross around my neck so to speak. It doesn't come naturally to me despite the advanced level on the guitar, which helped me with the violin in many other areas. Thank you so much for your video as after only a few weeks of practicing your steps each day I've really noticed some profound improvements and can only guess that in a few months I may be able to employ 'vibrato' in my playing of pieces and not just as an exercise, improving though I am. Your help in this area is a real Godsend and I'll be forever grateful to you for your video and your time. Thank you.
Hi! it's actually my first time playing the violin, I have been playing my violin for 8 months and I really wanna try vibrato because seeing my teacher how he does that is so cool. I also wanna say thank you for making this video, it really helps me a lot of the past week of doing this and I am getting better bit by bit so thank you so much for this!! ❤️
I was despairing of ever learning vibrato until I watched this video. keeping the thumb stationary and sort of pinching the violin between thumb and finger with the waving motion really helped me out.
OMG I love you!!! I just took up the violin after 15 years... And this is the most exciting tutorial ever! Thank you so much I'm trying this tomorrow 😍
Amazing!!! I have been playing violin for eight years and still have problems with vibrato!!! Your explanation is fantastic!!! It all makes sense now!!! You are the greatest teacher in the hole wide world:):)!!!!
Tanks a lot you have the best pedagogie THANKS THANKS THANKS ITS BEEN 3 days im trying by myself and because of you I finally can because of your "hello method" thanks for your steps too !
I have watched many people teaching violin vibrato here on RU-vid, and they all seem to do the same thing that doesn't make sense and doesn't work for me. Your lesson was definitely the best one of them all! Thank you so much!
Found you - this is so great...I have been doing my best to add this to my beginner practice and could never see anyones thumbs... Now I can practice, practice and practice this way too...Thanks for posting
Adorable Brilliant Creative Down-to-earth Elegant Funny Great ...Huneven...I could go on to z and start over but I leave room for other awed students of whom there shall be millions (Khan Academy for starters!). You are the best!!!! I gave up violin looong ago because there were no teachers where I lived and couldn't get across this vibrato thing by myself so I smashed my violin and gave up but I never stopped dreaming. Thank God for you. I will make it this time.
This is so great! You really took it from the start. Many instruction videos I've watched start on the "E-A" stage, which isn't very helpful for us who just started trying/wanting to learn vibrato. Really great instructions!
Thank you so much! I have been trying to do Vibrato for a while now and none of the other videos are this helpful! You make Vibrato seem so easy! 😁 thank you!
The problem I've discovered is that my elbow was not placed properly under the violin. I had it sticking out a little to the left. I now place it under the violin and a little to the right. I read that information in the book entitled, "A Tune A Day." It was not a vibrato lesson in book one, but it was a lesson about how to properly hold the violin. Get that elbow under the violin and to the right. Look at this professor's elbow. That was a big part of my problem. Good luck.
Denise Borum, JD omg thank you so much! I've never noticed that was the problem. I've always felt tension in my hands while doing these practises and now that I've changed my hand placement its so much easier to do and relaxing... thanks
My teacher, came up with a invention to practice with. Get a Film Container. Remember those little black plastic tube things you put a roll of film in from a camera? Get one of those, and put a couple coins in it and put the lid on. Hold the container like you holding your instrument. Wave to yourself and make the coins pop each end of the tube. You can do this anytime doing anything. Watch tv and pop the coins. You are teaching your wrist muscle memory as you watch tv :) That little invention taught MANY MANY students the basic motion needed. It also forced you to perform that motion with exaggerated "force" as you pop the coins because the force needed to use vibrato is way less than the force needed to pop those coins. When you apply the finger/string part, your wrist already has a strong motion and the right muscle memory, it actually made the finger/string part almost a no brainer :) She didn't even explain the whole finger on the string part, she just said get a film case and do that, thats your homework :)
Lo pondré en práctica. La clase es muy informativa y práctica; parece por lo demás más fácil para mí porque es un juego de muñeca y no de antebrazo. Gracias. Espero que me sea útil.
i already did something very similar to practice my vibratos. something i also like to do is just setup an interval timer (one of those you use for workouts and running) to do the exercise, it really helps.
Thank you so much Doree! I have been trying to find something like this for a long time. I am overseas at the moment but I do not want to stop learning and practicing violin! I have already had lessons and have barely started book 3 of Suzuki. I have really wanted to learn how to do Vibrato. I believe what you have done here will help me a lot!
Excellent video, I wish you were my teacher. I have been looking for a video that could explain vibrato in a way I could understand. This was perfect. I'm gonna start practicing your method. Hopefully I can learn it. Thank you
Thanks a lot for posting this brilliant video, Mrs Huneven! Since I practise the violin by myself, the video was great help for me. I got inspired by it. Besides the bottom of my left index finger began to free from the neck of violin. :) And also thank you for a good tip, Mr Koening. I will have a try today. :)
SOOOO GOOD!!! This helped me so much!!! Best video I have seen on this topic so far and it is also done absolutely lovely!!! Thank you for this video!!! Greetings from Germany.
