This week, we delve into deep repair on a good quality 1800's violin and also repair a Klotz copy violin giving it a voice. Freddie wants to share and there is a great Hebrew Minute. Hope you enjoy!

I just love it when you get the gavel out. It's a shame that you're obliged to from time to time, but epoxy deserves nothing less than a stern gavelling. Thanks also for continuing the "Messiah" texts in your Hebrew Minute - much appreciated. You've obviously been really busy in the shop this week so thanks for taking the time to make these videos, I'm sure it must slow the work down, but please don't stop recording what you do! Fingers crossed that the storms which are forecast do not affect you too badly.

Yes, Mr. Pinch! Thank you for your comments. I am liking the gavel and I am glad I am not the only one!!! The Messiah texts were a great idea that I got from you actually! That is such a wonderful oratorio. I wish the whole world could hear it, but maybe they will in the future!!! Thank you for watching and commenting. It makes it all worth it when I can read your comments. I hope you have a wonderful week and all the best!

Hi Mr Dark Matter! I love reading your comments. I did have a lot of footage this week and was quite swamped, so this is one of those videos that I cut and cut and snipped and snipped and then cut some more! Thank you for commenting and appreciating the videos. Hope you have a great week!

It's Judge Cheryl, almost sounds like a new TV show. I often wonder if half the repairs out there are done with epoxy filler, or somehow these bad repairs have a way of finding themselves on your bench. Look at the bright side though, no worm damage to deal with.

Yes! No worms!!! There are so many badly repaired violins but on the other hand, if they want to send the to me, I would love to fix them up and put them back in order! I hope you are having a good winter. We love to hear from you! All the best! ....from Judge Cheryl!!!

The 'Hebrew Minute' is Malachi 3:2. I think the cleat-job on the 1800's violin was dreadful-how could anyone close up the violin looking that atrocious? I think the hammer you used on the gavel is a rawhide hammer. They roll wet rawhide up in a cylinder and as it dries it closes up tightly and is rock solid. The 1/8 sized cello is too cute! Wow! you had a jamb-packed week in the violin shop. Thanks for another fun video, boss. Stupidicus.

Wow Tim! I thought that Hebrew Minute would be too hard to find but you got it! Thanks and Congratulations! Thank you for the information on the hammer. That must be it exactly, because it is rolled up and is as hard as a rock!!! Thank you for commenting and hope you have a wonderful week!

Do you place the cleats with the grain of the cleat running the same direction as the grain of the top? I thought the grain of the cleat was to run across the grain of the top for added strength.

Great question. I place the cleats on a diagonal slant to carry the vibrations continuously down the plate. The cleats are diamond shaped so not completely parallel but close. Thanks for commenting and hope you have a wonderful week!

Cringed when chisel tool used to pare out bass bar slipped past and dives into plate ! Counter-brace when wasting out so not to slip on thru or place a cut-out guard leather please. In-side sealing on and older instrument or one that is not made by you - sacrilege !

I appreciate your concern, and I certainly would not be reworking a violin made by a maker. This violin is a. mass produced instrument from Germany and the whole purpose of the owner was to improve its tone for up and coming musicians who cannot afford an instrument. But I agree with you, we do not change work from another maker. Thanks for commenting and hope you have a great week!
